Title: Seeking advice on a BFL 60ghs purchase
Post by: cshelswell on September 16, 2013, 08:33:32 AM
So i'm able to get my hands of a Butterfly Labs 60GH/s box. I can get it tomorrow for USD $4500 if i want it. The current calculations look like i should make my money back on it but I'm kind of wondering if anyone else has an opinion on that.

I'm a bit nervous about lots of 400GH/s + boxes coming out and making my investment a pretty bad one.

Would love to hear some opinions.

Thanks

I would not recommend buying it for this price, there are too many new players in the game and the risk of the difficulty skyrocketing even more than now are pretty high.

yeah that's what I was thinking. In a month's time I suspect the landscape is going to be quite different.

Thanks :)

just to add to this. What price would someone pay? What do you think it's worth?

Cheers

I'm a bit nervous about lots of 400GH/s + boxes coming out and making my investment a pretty bad one.

As a purchaser of a couple of those 400GH/s boxes you speak of, I can't recommend making this purchase given the more economical options becoming available through October/November.

Personally, I've purchased Bitfury products for the rest of my 2013 miners, as I don't see any other reliable options before the new year.

Do not buy it.  You will lose on the deal.  If you are that eager to blow $4500, then just send $2500 to me and do not buy any mining equipment.  You'll be in the same place financially.

Awesome thanks guys. Yeah I checked thegenisisblock and was pretty sure I couldn't make the figures stack up. Good to have it confirmed though.

I'll hold out for a bitfury instead then :)

I could get it tomorrow if I went for it but I still think it's too much. The price has come down a bit to USD $3400 but still too much i think?

These are going for abuut $650 on eBay.

Again... I also ran the numbers... you'll only get 50% of your money back if you mined today!

Check next week. I'm enjoying watching the little erupters drop from $30 to $25 to $22 to.... I'll wager they will be <$20 by end of week.

Which doesn't matter as they are not profitable at anything. For comparison my Jally that has already mined about .7btc will probably break even but only because I got it for $169, and upped the speed to 7.6gh/s with a $50 dragon. And I'll be moving it out to my solar powered shed come october to provide some warmth and run off the batteries.

The people waiting for the bigger BFL miners must be... complicated in their emotions.

Yeah i've got a jally too which I have a feeling i might not break even on :) At the moment though betwen so Block Erupters and the jally it's still profitable so it's still whirring away :)

Really? Check out the upgrade thread, it's actually a efficient little bump. With two erupters and the JP I'm hauling 8+. Which giv3en difficulty might do it.

yeah i had a wee look at the upgrade thread. I just wasn't keen on shelling out any more $$$ for the Dragon. I'm based in NZ so getting your hands on one of those isn't going to be all that cheap. Though getting it up to 8GH/s would be cool
