Title: MonteCrypto: 1 BTC prize for the winner of this video game!

WHOEVER BEATS THIS GAME FIRST WINS A BITCOIN

https://youtu.be/4mdxNTtVM5E (https://youtu.be/4mdxNTtVM5E)

We are trying to keep our identities secret for now, but we can say we are a group of game developers and that we had a crazy idea for this game.

The wallet.dat is protected by a 24 word-long password. There are 24 enigmas to solve, each one of them revealing one word. Dead simple! Of course, enigmas get harder and harder… Come challenge yourself!

We integrated a hint system were you can leave useful tips for other players in the world, but of course you can also leave them bad hints to slow them down. We consider it something of a social experiment in cooperation.

Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma is coming to Steam next week for $1.99 dollars with a launch discount of 40%! We hope you like the idea behind it! You can also add it to your wishlist if you want to get notified when the treasure hunt starts.

Puzzle games are my obsession and now you tell me that i might even get paid by winning it.
I hope they are not brutally hard. I would like the kind of puzzles that makes one feel smart after having solved them, thats the only dopamine i get in my miserable life afterall.

Very interesting idea and will undoubtedly attract great interest of players, especially those who are familiar with BTC.Also this should be good promotion for cryptocurrency in general.

I see you posted BTC address and that address is holding 1 BTC,but it would be good to sign message to prove that you really own that address.I only hope that the challenge is not too heavy, but for 1 BTC prize in any case it is worth to spend some time and try to hunt the treasure :)

You do realize that because you are new and wearing masks, you will need to transfer that 1btc to a legal service before anyone takes you seriously.

That and I don't think community is taking the game seriously.Check out the comments on their YouTube video you can see how everybody is finding them shady and relating it to a 'scam' or a gimmick to run some mining script in the background.
I doubt anyone is interested in actually buying the game..Even if they escrow the money, they might as well ask one of their team members to solve it...

Every game I see that tries to do something like seems to just trying to get their business in the spotlight.

I'm in the middle of thinking about purchasing and trying out the game although I'm not hoping to win that reward after finishing the game but upon reading what you said Joel it made me think again. But there are many crypto folks who are interested of purchasing the game itself as its attached as "monteCRPYTO" that makes them think that they are supporting the crypto market. They can earn more than 1 BTC as the game is ready on steam + mining script = $ for them.

I noticed the game is only available for windows :( Is there any chance releasing it on Linux/SteamOS? I don't have Windows instaled.

For what end does your game include the whole OpenSSL library, including functions more keen to mine bitcoins than to play a maze game?
And why my GPU never goes down from 100% even with the game in background?

Some of fhe functions found at the main exe:

Code:
i2d_ECParameters
i2d_ECPKParameters
i2d_ECPrivateKey
i2o_ECPublicKey
...

Code:
EC_KEY_check_key
EC_KEY_copy
EC_KEY_generate_key
EC_KEY_new
EC_KEY_print
EC_KEY_print_fp
EC_KEY_set_public_key_affine_coordinates
EC_POINTs_make_affine
...

I don't have the proof yet but too many things with this game do not add up.

The game is selling for less than 2$. They need to sell at least 5,000 copies to break even to just recover the cost of the BTC they are giving away. That doesn't cover any of the development costs to create the game.

I think this game was build to hijack high end GPU resources from gaming computers. This is only a theory right now I do not have the proof yet. Let me know if you find anything SirArthur.

But these enigma games are nothing for me.

Reminds me so much of this little thread and game last year: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1967058.msg19563484#msg19563484

Even uses the term enigma. Plain plagiarism or the same guys? That game was pretty cool, managed to solve a handful of the enigmas myself but the owners never proved the 50btc prize.

Difference is that was free (clues could be purchased) but too many similarities and shady aspects. Suggest not to waste time or spend any money here.

The problem I have with this is trust. What prevents the creators of this game to simply share the "secrets" with some of

their friends and to get them to solve the "enigmas" and with the bitcoin? They could just share the spoils with the people

who helped them. {Money from people who paid for the game}  ::) ....Still, it looks like a lot of fun, and for that kind of

money, you cannot buy a McDonald's Burger and fries... so it's not the end of the world.  ??? Just SUCKS if it is another

scam.  >:(

Went though the link and watched the video. Games is really interesting and eating up my mind. Tried playing once. Almost an hour of my time was totally taken up ending the game in middle as could not go further. Best luck to guys play this game. Hope a legal escrow comes in between and a serious guy wins this 1 bitcoin.

The price of the game is cheap but I haven't purchased it yet. When it goes to legal escrow, their devs should unveil their team first before asking for someone or legal entity to handle the funds for the game. I've been watching youtube videos of trying the game out and it looks exciting.

Likely None.
The address 19mb9mZ1w953zBd7viHwWK2ZhPmcbMQh4Q (https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/address/19mb9mZ1w953zBd7viHwWK2ZhPmcbMQh4Q/) still holds the 1btc reward.

There are couple of suspicious points in this game, the most obvious were:
  • The address that holds the 1btc price isn't signed for confirmation of ownership.
  • OP author is a newbie and he can't provide any information about the developers nor the team:
We are trying to keep our identities secret for now, but we can say we are a group of game developers and that we had a crazy idea for this game.
  • The game is for sale (not free to play) indicates that the reward is for them to earn more sales than to earn game population and activities.
  • -Edit- It's all over their youtube video's comment section. A single-reward game sounds fishy if you think about it, someone (a player or themselves) got the reward and the game's done!

Thought about playing for a while but decided not to because I don't have much free time and this would reflect badly on it :)

Didn't even think about all the possible security implications mentioned in the thread. While we are at it I will mention one more that I haven't seen mentioned yet. After reading "The wallet.dat is protected by a 24 word-long password. There are 24 enigmas to solve, each one of them revealing one word. Dead simple! Of course, enigmas get harder and harder…" I would assume that last few enigmas will be very hard and last one will be almost impossible to solve. Isn't it easier to just try to brute force the last word, or several?
