Title: Heatsink compounds?
Post by: MinerMEDIC on February 15, 2018, 05:25:28 PM
So I've been using arctic silver two part heatsink adhesive. My question does anybody have any cheaper recommendations? I'm planning on doing a lot of heatsinks. I'm looking for something that can still be removed later during troubleshooting (and maybe save a buck?). I see on Amazon there is a popular double-sided heat sink tape adhesive. I also see plenty of one part heat curing glues, and a couple of big bottles of thermally conductive epoxy on ebay. (Ugg... I don't know why BITMAIN has to do this, couldn't they just use a nice big monolithic heatsink, tho did I see that on one of the earlier series S)

Because those monolithic heatsinks will heatsoak and hold heat in well after the miner has stopped hashing. It was a big problem on the Avalon6, you would stop the miner and watch the chip temps go up because the fan spins down to idle and the giant heatsink cant radiate enough heat on its own to cool off properly.

I just bought a small package of MG Chemicals Thermally Conductive Adhesive off of amazon to try.  It was cheaper than Artic Silver and available in much larger containers at a greatly reduced price/gram.  The small package I bought comes in tubes about the same size as Artic Silver.
