Title: 【ANN】【PGC】Pangu coin - launched!
Post by: pangubi on September 17, 2013, 11:48:37 AM
The Pangu legend
Pangu (盘古) was the creator of all in Chinese mythology. He separated Yin from Yang with a swing of his giant axe, creating the Earth (murky Yin) and the Sky (clear Yang). To keep them separated, Pangu stood between them and pushed up the Sky. This task took 18,000 years; with each day the sky grew ten feet (3 meters) higher, the Earth ten feet wider, and Pangu ten feet taller.
Pangu Coin is named after this chinese mythical figure.

Hey, why the download site is in chinese? I know it's going to be 2nd world's language in some time, but I think currently we still prefer English ;)

edit:

Warning, possible scam:
- source not released
- 128 blocks already mined at the launch
- doubts about the client: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=295918.msg3174713#msg3174713

For me the download link just leads back to pangubi.com...

"下载" 让我直接回到盘古币首页...

because there is still one minute to launch..

edit: OK, now the download link is ok, but also in Chinese. You need to figure out where to click to download it. A handicap for China ;)

Please publish addnodes.

Hey, why the download site is in chinese? I know it's going to be 2nd world's language in some time, but I think currently we still prefer English ;)

Briefly, the guts:
1 minute -> 1 block, 1 block -> 10 PGB, 520 confirms for generation, difficulty adjusts once a day, reward halves every 2 years, total 30 million coins

The trivia:
"Pangu is a figure of Chinese legend, one who can hold up the sky while standing firmly on the ground. It is generally agreed in Chinese mythology that Pangu seperated sky and earth, and gave his body to create the world. In the ancient past, a large egg floated in nothingness, and inside was Pangu. For 18,000 years, he attempted to free himself from the egg, and finally he escaped. One half of the egg turned into gas and floated up, becoming the sky, and the other half sank down and started becoming thicker, then becoming the land. And so the universe began."

Edit: Can't download. First time, got stuck at 280K, second time got stuck at 1M. Here's hoping that it is successful this time.

Still not synchronizing. If the main node is in China it won't be easy I guess.

No. There are only 134 blocks, 6 more than at the launch. I wonder if this is how it should be..

even if it's 100 coins per block. 100*128=12.8K NOT 100K

and dont wont to read  configs from pangubi.conf ((((((

I also find trouble to run in server mode.

Please upload files in a different location. Can not open link with QT.

Go to http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=456156400&uk=540818896

Click on the first text on the left, then this bold something in a popup window:

I know how to download from there. This link would not open for a long time. Finally downloaded, but the slow speed is just awful!

...
Introduction

   1 minute block targets...

Is starting diff so high? Or something is not working properly? Its impossible to catch a block (I have run QT on 10 CPU's -  5x i5, 2x Phenom x6, and 3x Phenom x4)

Title: Re: 【ANN】【PGC】Pangu coin - launched!
Post by: meta.p02 on September 17, 2013, 02:22:14 PM
The starting diff was 0.00024414 (1/4096 -> 1048576 hashes required).
The hashrate of the entire network is thus approximately (22 blocks in 137:21) -> 2800 hashes per second...

The coin has a nice backstory, but the implementation leaves much to be desired. Good try, devs, but this coin probably isn't going anywhere fast.

You can mine only with buil-in miner because this coin seems to use a new algo. Unfortunately there is no source code so we don't know the details.

Yeah its simple but not very intuitive which i really hate.

You can mine coins using the Pangu Client.

If you run it from command prompt just do this:
1. open folder and hold shift+right mouse button and click "Open Command Prompt Window Here"
2. type "Pangubi-qt.exe -gen"
3. Go to your task manager and check the performance tab and you should see your CPU cycles at 99%

This means your mining this coin.  But I haven't gotten a coin in a few hours.

So I have already given up and went back to Offerings to Cthulhu...

I'm really not sure if this was even worth the effort.

My theory:

- it's scrypt-jane
- rpc has been disabled in this pre-compiled client or password is hardcoded
- coin creator has his own version and mines with ybminer (scrypt-jane)
- after a while a v1.1 client will be released on github, when he mined enough

Why I think password is hardcoded? When I create a pangubi.conf and point the miner at the correct port I set in the conf, it gives an "invalid credentials" error rightaway. If I point it at the wrong port, it takes 5 seconds to give an error. So something is listening but doesn't accept my credentials.

I don't think I ever used the word "scamcoin" on this forum but I have a feeling I'm close to using it.

Yes I think this is exactly what happened.

It is not the first time Chinese did this. The 1st was yacoin. Then ybcoin, where there was a secret GPU miner, that the devs had used since the beginning, it was published after 1 week or so. This coin does exactly the same. It's a public trick now. Absolutely no point to mine this coin, it's a garbage.

BTW, you see the existence of GPU miner by looking at its instamine rate, it's easy to see the real block time as opposed to the "design" block time.

Also, I was told another coin by Chinese guy: Freecoin (FEC) - another script-jane coin, did exactly the same.

agreed... except for

- after a while a v1.1 client will be released on github, when he mined enough

and my newest hobby ... lol at no source ... 4 pages deep on forum and still no source.... at least the italy coin had source available, and just forgot to post it when posting here at bitcointalk... which i rudely reminded them to do...

but after looking all 7 pages of matches on google for search "Pangu coin github"  there appears to be no such thing...

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1203-pangu-pgc-information/    --- same thing here.... no source...

I repeat my process of banging head onto desk because no source code for yet another coin....

I looked at the exe for scrypt references, scrypt-jane was indeed build into this client.
