They have also announced plans to further digitize their online casino gaming system in a partnership with Pariplay, which may involve the creation of a second token on a separate blockchain. The aim would be to open up the opportunity of gambling with cryptocurrencies, which represents a further step forward from the gaming giant, most famous for its domination of the 80s video game market.

The announcements have had a predictable effect on the stock price of Atari, which has seen an enormous jump in the last 24 hours. Whether this will hold for any length of time remains to be seen, but it is certainly exciting times for Atari this month.

Frankly, some of the traders and altcoin holders I know has seen this to be coming years ago.

Most believe that online gambling and gaming will be the first real usage of cryptocurrencies. And then maybe porn.

In fact, small online Bitcoin casinos have always turned a profit throughout the years. This Atari story maybe a turning point in mainstream adoption and not owning cryptocurrency just for trading and speculation.

I'm fine with cryptocurrency used in online gaming, but does every vendor really need to launch their own coin? Limited applicability is not going to allow the coin to take of anyway, so considering the effort you have to put into developing the coin as well, why not adopt an already existing coin and use it?

That question has been asked a million times over. It's the same way Apple has its own app store and Google has it own app store. Basically it's a free world, anybody can create anything.

The hard part is: will people adopt or use it? Will people join or support the network? People do stuff because they benefit from it. One reason this gaming company, Atari, decided to make its own currency is because its in their best interests.

If people find it useful, convenient and cheap, the goal is reached and a network is born. Besides, they would want something custom-fitted to their needs and goals.

I do not think that this is a good idea for them. All the same this is not their sphere. Although the company atari is also serious, at least a very bad currency they will not work.
