Title: Anyone here unbanked?
Post by: Benson Samuel on September 18, 2013, 02:21:52 PM
I was talking to a reporter from The New Yorker about the 41% of unbanked individuals in India. He was interested to speak to someone who is unbanked but using Bitcoin.

Any takers?

thanks, most of the time I would rather withhold from comments. Forum like that one will measure everything you say with market scale.

Well I know lot of people who are unbanked, but the second part is impossible at the moment. May be after 10/20/30 years I can see myself being one :D

There is no free wi-fi even in the International airport in Chennai.

Indian metros can provide to anyone a lot of "free" WIFI, here and there, everywhere. Many APs everywhere running on WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy. Easy can be cracked without any skills in 10 minutes max. All you need is http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet/-strse-73/Alfa-AWUS036H-1000mW-USB/Detail and Backtrack

Disclaimer : It is technically not free Wi-Fi, if you are cracking it. It is illegal to crack into others wifi unless they don't have any password protection.

Also, there have been cases in some countries where, hackers have left a public access point in Starbucks and Cafes with a SSID similar to the well known one without any password protection. Once a user gets connected to that, they act as man-in-the-middle who will have access to all your passwords and anything that you login to.

Dishwara, any reason for not having an account?
Has Bitcoin benefited you because you did not have an account or are you comfortable with the bank account?

Please do let me know.
