Are you online in bitcointalk using a tor browser? or using a regular browser like google chrome or mozilla.
If you use a tor, please tell me why?
and if you're using a regular browser, explain the difference between online using tor and online using a normal browser.

Basically, Tor hides your real IP, makes you harder to trace, encrypts your traffic, and makes whatever you're doing on it safer (and slower) in general. If you have no need for those, then you likely don't need to use Tor. The average person probably only uses it for sensitive activities and normally wouldn't classify Bitcointalk as such.

You should classify Bitcointalk as a sensitive activity. There are a lot of hackers and generally bad people in this forum, constantly trying to steal your bitcoins. It is entirely reasonable to use Tor Browser here, because the IP is hidden and the traffic encrypted. You also want to disable javascript specially when opening your PM box. All it takes is for someone to place an exploit in a link attached to an image and your computer could be compromised or at least your IP revealed to an attacker.

For anything that has to do with Bitcoin, I would sure use Tor Browser or anything else of similar nature simply for the amount of scammers and hackers that are all over the crypto world.

I understand your sentiment, but I already run NoScript and HTTPS Everywhere by default, on top of a VPN. My experience with Tor is that it's slow and grinds to a halt every now and then, which affects my forum experience quite significantly. What I have on now is sufficient for my own security requirements. I save it for more sensitive stuff.

I have no qualms with using Tor here though. Go for it, by all means. It's more secure, as I have said, and the only real trade-off is its speed.

I agree that TOR is in most cases an overkill. If you are planning a scam or are bragging around the forum about your millions in cryptocurrency it might be safer to use TOR. Normal users should be fine with a VPN or even without any, especially if they're using a public network to browse the forum. I know that some people might be paranoid and afraid of being tracked by the agencies, but most of us have nothing to worry about.
I'm usually using various networks and VPNs because without them I'd leave a pattern of the places I'm accessing the forum from, and I wouldn't want that to fall into some hacker's hands along with the rest of the database.

When I am running TAILS or on my own computer at work I use TOR browser to access here and reddit. I use a different username on reddit when using Chromium on this computer. I don't have a different username here in TOR, I just read only.
Why use TOR when I do? One of the guys at work knows a bit about Linux and although I don't usually go anywhere that is NSFW I still don't want him to necessarily know where I go.
On TAILS is pretty much self-explanatory.

I use Tor for wallet check or coin exchange because it's high secure and work anonymously. I do not use tor for bitcointalk because it's slow. It is a discussion website, it's not requires so much security. So I use regular browsers for Bitcointalk.

I tried to use TOR but it's a little bit different from the regular browsers. So I gave up on it, I rather stick to my good old Chrome. :)

I am using normal browser and i don't think TOR is required for bitcointalk.org

I don't really care for privacy in surfing , it never matters to me. Unless a website start asking my citizen number.  ;D

does that mean I am safe when online using browser biasah? because when I first register in bitcointalk and to date, I use a tor browser because my friend suggested it. but lately tor browser is difficult to access, so it will be difficult for me to be online in bitcointalk.

this forum, crypto wallet and related to other crypto it is made with a special security system to avoid hacker? I also just created my wallet account in my regular browser. is it risky?

does it work well? actually i just need the security and the internet performance is a bit fast. I do not really think about privacy because I use my own laptop and not others people use it. when I use the tor, I am very difficult to login in bitcointalk, so I use google chrome and I don'tt set anything there, I just access it. is it safe?

I use tor browser here and on all bitcoin related sites because a bitcoin wallet isn't like a bank account and anybody can steal your coins if your computer is compromised. TOR encrypts traffic and makes this a little harder for hackers.

As long as you aren't going around bragging about owning 1000 BTC and making yourself a target, then you are probably fine. If you really don't want to use Tor or a VPN, then I would suggest at least having a clean install of a different browser, adding in all the privacy add-ons a suggested by that site (ad blockers, tracking blockers, HTTPS everywhere, Java blockers, etc) and using that only that  browser for cryptocurrency related activities and nothing else.

Well, it should be safe to assume that just about every website that offers crypto services has invested at least some resources into security. Still, that doesn't mean it's completely safe, and while you may be able to protect yourself with Tor, the sites themselves could still become a target.


It could be relatively safe if you know what you're doing. You should generally be fine unless you find yourself on the receiving end of a targeted attack. If you want another line of defense, you may want to install the add-ons ScriptSafe and HTTPS Everywhere for your Chrome browser. Tor also comes bundled with plugins like those.

ScriptSafe can have a somewhat steep learning curve if you have no idea how scripts on websites work, but it can stop malicious code from running on pages you visit, and even blocks ads as a bonus. It provides the same functionality as NoScript in Firefox, which comes bundled with Tor.

HTTPS everywhere forces websites to use https when available, meaning the data you send will be encrypted, so you'll find yourself less vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks.

Bottom line is, while Tor is one of the best security options available, it's far from the only option. Not using it doesn't mean you're completely vulnerable, and using it doesn't mean you're completely safe either. Read up on standard cyber security practices and you will be fine in most cases.

I use mozilla in OS Ubuntu, as far as I know Tor is a web browser software that hides your identity while online. This can be done in several different ways. First, use encryption to scramble the data that is being communicated in the network. Secondly, the data route between servers is randomly arranged in Tor's network to hide your online identity, including data related to private IP addresses

I'm not using TOR. I used it a few times to browse the anonymous part of the Internet just to see what it's like but I see no reason to try to access public forums through it.
Why should I be worried about someone knowing my IP. IP means nothing it only shows the location of your ISP. You can't directly access someone's computer only by knowing his IP.

It's hard to use TOR because of it's speed, so you are not able to open many links at once.
The best way is to have good VPN if you need "anonymous" experience or even to have separate laptop ot desktop for a full anonymity  8)

TOR Browser is protected web browser and you can navigate on the net with total security but normal browser is not safe  for me i use a normal web browser

I'm using a regular browser. I never tried tor browser to visit this community. I'm sorry I can't tell you the differences between them. Although I can tell about Google Chrome and Mozila Firefox, cause I've been using both. Truth is, I can't any difference between these two while I am in this site.

It never occurred to me to use anything other than a normal browser such as Chrome for visiting this site along with any other crypto site, but the logic makes perfect sense now. I will definitely beef up my security for future use, at the very least look into VPN or the add-ons mentioned. thanks for the info and the links included in this thread

Good Day Everyone, I can't find some answers in google regarding tor browser that blocks phishing site. It only shows "Top sites that are blocked by Tor Browser". I am using it right now and I was thinking if this browser will block phishing websites.  ???

I use the Thor browser to block mail! No complaints whatsoever. The only downside is that the browser is buggy sometimes! Slightly slows down! But I do not suffer from vpn!

I think tor browsers main function is to access the deepweb and to hide all you physical information like ip address, location etc. Theres no need to use tor browser if you are clean and legal maybe this will only be used if you are trying to do illegal stuffs.

Not that it would be for the purpose of a skam, it's just that in some Slavic countries, in particular in Russia, they restrict access to most resources! And the torus helped me a lot in this! Since free VPN is very slowed by browsers and often do not work correctly!

TOR might be useful just to "keep the peace of mind" especially when you have a little paranoid friends who keep telling you some spooky stuff ;)
Doesn't slow things down too much, so I can live with it :)

Generally i use Mozilla as they are good in terms of privacy,if you are really want to be completely anonymous then i would say their is nothing called 100% anonymity,the closest to anonymity is by using Linux Tails.
