Title: Is it worth buying & selling?
Post by: adnanabbas on September 20, 2013, 02:09:47 PM
I was wondering if it is worth buying and selling the ASICMINER Block Erupter USB's.

depends how uninformed your local craigslist is on mining. on ebay you won't get more than $20-25.

In Denmark the block erupters actually get sold for 100 dollars...

I got my block erupters for $19 each. Not too shabby. Could sell them on ebay in their original cases with the fans and usb hubs ready to go for probably a good amount.

I bought 10 at $46 each and thought that was a smokin deal.

When I used them for a week and saw how good they were I decided I wanted more.

A few minutes after this I got an email saying I qualified for a 'coupon' purchase from my original vendor and the price was now 0.13 BTC (about $17 at the time) so I bought 100 ;D

I call this a Wayseer thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPR3GlpQQJA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPR3GlpQQJA), its like the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, Chaos Theory, things that will be well understood in 500 years.

ROI? bah, very doubtful, its a hobby and I'm enjoying it. People need hobbies.

Is it worth buying and selling to make a profit, nah. You can make a bit for sure if you hussle but there are far easier ways to make money.

considering how quickly the price is dropping, i'd consider being a reseller quite risky. there is a good chance that you'll end up selling some of your inventory for less than you paid for it.

As I've heard before on here:

Its like catching a falling knife.

Examples:

BFL Singles in hand were selling for 20-25BTC just a couple weeks ago.

Today:  13BTC or less.  I am pretty sure we will hit 10BTC soon.

I bought an Avalon Batch 3 upgrade single module about when B3 shipped for 27BTC (overpaid, but knew it at the time).

Two weeks ago I bought a Avalon Batch 2 upgrade single module for 10BTC.

Now they sell for 5-7 or less.

The problem is we are still in that period where everything is in flux.  With difficulty skyrocketing prices for miners are plummeting.  New multiple terrahash ASICs are on the horizon.  Its anyone's bet how fast the network will grow, who's chips will be late/delayed, etc.  I have $0.06KWH power which was traditionally my "saving grace" while mining with GPUs, but ASICs are getting more power efficient all the time so its hard to say what an ASICMiner blade, Avalon, or a current BFL Single will be worth in a few months.

TL;DR - Even as an early adopter, at this point I wish I had kept my coins and not bought ASICs!  Really only the lucky and/or insiders are making money.

there is good resale value in asics, but it drops fast.
I resold two 0.7BTC erupters for 0.75BTC each plus 4oz of silver bullion
I recently sold 3 0.2BTC erupters for $100 total

so far, ive made 4oz of silver (~$85), 2 erupters, and a small amount of mining income (~0.08 BTC) profit
I also have a deal to sell 6 0.17BTC erupters for $180 this weekend.

While I love my new bitfury (at a fairly steady average 34Ghash poolside) and have more of its boards on order, I am weighing out options to sell it. Perhaps when it becomes a 100GH unit with the october cards I will try to resale it at face value minimum, not counting the mined bitcoins (currently ~0.16/day at 33gh)

You can buy at around 0.13 BTC and sell around 0.3 BTC, they're in really high demand, so...

I dunno, I'd let em mine for a month or 2 and then sell em for 15 bucks each.

Its risky but if you buy a ton of them cheap here on a group buy and then sell them on ebay you would see some profit but very risky at the diff going up and prices falling :) And you could have them mining while you have them lying around waiting to be sold if you have some USB hubs. Good luck

The being asked, Do on contracts first, always. I think, It 's time to buy many. But I need to be careful on this.

I personally use contracts for fun. Especially the cex.io offer.
