Title: 1 btc loan for groceries? (paid off and closed)
Post by: arklan on September 22, 2013, 03:17:59 AM
Hey guys. My name is arklan uth oslin. I'm in a bind, hoping for some help. I'm currently waiting on the results of a background check to come in before I start a new job at a local store. (dollar general in Bedford, tx) until then, the only income I have is my mining, 15 ghash, which is barely covering it. Variance and difficulty are going to leave me short on money before I can start getting paychecks.

I was hoping I could arrange something for a 1 or 2 btc loan to help me get there, repayment asap once I get paid. I can't provide an exact date for that, but worst case puts it by end of October for full repayment, plus interest (which we can determine).

I'll happily provide any info you want.

I have previously provided all identifying info to john k. Related to a group buy I did for asicminer hardware.
Currently I'm living in my friends apartment in Bedford, tx near Dallas.

BTW, it sounded like money for groceries your in a crunch, cash via paypal would be best for you time wise.    If you want to only deal in BTC.  I will do the same deal I proposed earlier but in BTC.  1 BTC for 1.1 BTC payback, whenever you can.

The only catch is you'll have to wait until my next wire clears in the exchange.  Should be about 4 days.

Deal! Pay pal is preferred, actually  I'll pm you my email

As to my name being Scandinavian, nope. I made it up, based on what i was reading as a teen. Lord of the Rings and such. Used it as online name at forums and games, and eventually just changed it.

Well, I for one am not looking for any rep out of this.   So its really up to arklan if he's concerned about that.   Perhaps he can post in here once he received the paypal funds that he did indeed receive them.   Then there will also be the repayment transaction.   I can go either way, no big deal to me.

So Arklan, just let me know your final decision, paste in what you emailed me minus the paypal email address, then I'll send it over.   After you receive it, please post in here that you have received it.

If you decide to go BTC way due to what marcovaldo has said, then let me know and we can arrange that.

i'm with you. not too concerned about the rep. will worry about that later.

anyway:
I agree to accept a loan of USD sent to my paypal address in the amount of 1 btc at the exchange rate of btce to be repaid by me in the amount of 1.1 BTC.

In PM, stated that is his address. In this OP he is in need of bitcoins.
Needs a bitcoin to feed himself.

Problem is you gamble away money you can't afford to lose  :-\
Now your in a binding problem.

If you didn't gamble in the past the need to ask for this loan wouldn't be necessary

I only did about 25% of it, about 4 times more or so.

So, your an admin of a gambling site, and your giving lectures on people gambling? boggle.  you offering to close down your site out of moral obligation?

:D I've seen Douglas many times, blocking gamblers from gambling all there funds away, etc.

Besides, satoshidice isn't my gambling site :P

I know ppl do gamble and have a bit of fun here and there. But if he was asking for a desperate loan of 1 BTC for groceries at September,
and gambled a few 0.1 BTC at Oct 1, or later. It shows he is gambling money he can't afford to lose.

Just pointing it out.

Maybe your just pissed he's not spending it at your casino :) ?
Exactly  :D

He did say he is working for a cartage company now, so maybe he is not so bad off.   How do you know what he can/can not afford to lose?  If he's got "x" coming in at a specific time from a new job and can afford to bet a little.    But you can't go lecturing people when you make proceeds off of a parasitic gambling site.

Maybe your just pissed he's not spending it at your casino :) ?

I was just pointing it out the nature of his post the need to get food, Sounding like an emergency and lack of funds then a week later a few 0.1 BTC that got tossed and gambled. I'd expect in a situation of hardship that need money for food and not much money to not gamble any away.

As i already said, I've done no gambling of any kind this year. You're looking at the past. Pay attention to your own posts and the dates therein.

Hi Arklan,

Again, I hope things are going well in the new job.   I came across another thread that made me think we should consider how to complete  your loan.   Another user had posted a sale of 10 BTC via paypal so I had offered to purchase while locking equal value up in LTC in escrow for 30 days.   He basically called me a scammer because you can reverse payments I guess for 45 days.  I had thought it was 30.

Any way.  If your concerned about making payment and having me reverse the original loan here is what we can do.

1) Still make payment by the end of October for the 1.1 BTC
2) Just prior I can put equal of 1.1 BTC, of LTC, in escrow.  If anyone is willing to do that? (VOD? Tomato?)
3) I get back my BTC and the escrow holder can release my LTC after the 45 day paypal period has ended.

I think that protects both of us, and allows you to make your final payment that falls before that 45 day period is up.

Let me know what you think.

cheers.

this seems fine. the trick (for me) will be GETTING the full 1.1 btc in time... this price climb is making that more and more difficult.

Hi Arklan,

I know its a tough call.  Most would argue that they would of had that money sitting in BTC so it would of gained value so you should pay that.  However, I don't hold BTC.  I just do arbitrage.   I jumped on the loan to help ya out, I don't need to make a boat load.   I know currently 1.1 BTC is at about 210 USD on bitstamp.   No point in waiting for a crash as it may not come.

We originally agreed to 1.1 BTC repayment.  We can amend that.   I'll agree that you can just pay the equal value of 140 USD in BTC to me at the time, but if there is a major crash, you will at least pay me back the 121 USD I lent you.

How does that sound?

agreed. 140 USD in btc, according to... uh, which exchange? your call.

Title: Re: 1 btc loan for groceries?
Post by: arklan on October 23, 2013, 10:06:56 PM
Well as I based the loan on btc-e prices, why not stick with that.   Makes no difference to you as your capped at 140 USD, but at least I can arb it over to gox and withdrawal in yen.

man the price is still going up.  lucky you didnt take that dude on the 3btc to 1btc offer eh lol... ;)

lol, right?

i'd forgotten which we used. but yea, ok.

So, update. My job only pays about 140 a week, much to my surprise, and I had to buy new glasses cause mine broke, and I owe my friend who's letting me stay in his living room some money too.

In short, there's no way I can make the 31st deadline. Can we work something out? Could do it by November end. Should be getting more hours at work, which would make that sooner. I'll add another $10 for the delay?

Or something else?

Thanks,

Received part of the first 0.175 as you stated.   .08 has been paid of the 1st payment.   If you have it worked out thats great.   I don't really need amazon cards or stuff like that myself, BTC and/or I guess USD is the best option for me.   Let me know what you have worked out.   If your going to have trouble with BTC weekly, I guess I could take back paypal payments but that would cost you even more to cover the fees so might be best for you to stick with BTC cost wise.

thanks

btc won't be a problem going forward. i've found a workaround via second life that works fine, i'm just waiting for the transfer from the game. hopefully i wont be waiting long... after i wake up (just got in from work) i'm going to get looking for a better buying method... stupid amex card...

Hi Arklan,

Any update on the first payment?

Thanks,

Well, my workaround I mentioned? Was buying second life currency to exchange into Btc. But virwox, the exchange I know of that deals in both, doesn't accept my amex debit card, where my money was. So, after some looking, I bought the currency in the game directly, expecting to transfer it out to the exchange.

This apparently isn't allowed.

So, next thing I do is withdraw that money to my PayPal.

At this point, the company who runs second life locked that account for suspicious activity.

I'm currently waiting on their response to my submitted identity verification...

I mine about .02 Btc at current difficulty, so at a minimum I have that...

I'm Aledo going to find a way to get my money off that amex (where my paycheck goes) and on to PayPal, which I can use to buy Btc.

Stupid fiat, man... If I could get paid in Btc, there wouldn't be a problem.
