Title: GPU mining with FOSS drivers Post by: darkbasic on September 22, 2013, 05:43:30 PM I hate this whole newbie section farce, but it seems I need to make a "substantial" :-[ post to leave it and I don't know what should I write here. So I will describe some experiments I'm doing with GPU mining and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) drivers. I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 and I use Gentoo amd64. I'm running latest development code of the graphical stack which consists in Linux 3.11 + DRM backported from 3.12+ (http://www.linuxsystems.it/linux-drm-graphic-stack-backports/), mesa 9.3-devel from git, llvm 3.4-devel from git, libdrm git, libclc git, xf86-video-ati git and glamor git. OpenCL support is highly experimental within AMD's open source video drivers, but I managed to achieve 400 MH/s with the 7950 @default clocks. How many MH/s is it supposed to reach with proprietary drivers (Catalyst) while keeping the default clocks? As far as I read it should be 450/500 MH/s.

However, best mine LTC with GPUs and then convert LTC to BTC. https://litecoin.info/Mining_Hardware_Comparison Title: Re: GPU mining with FOSS drivers Post by: darkbasic on September 22, 2013, 07:40:29 PM Hi,
I know about litecoin but currently you can't mine scrypt with FOSS drivers. |
