Title: Why would you use a crypto debit card?
Post by: gusgusest on February 22, 2018, 11:29:58 AM
We are in the process of building a crypto card service. There's a lot of discussion over which cards are available, but little about what people actually use them for.

We run a lot of user testings and it would be great to hear from a global community as well:

- What would you use a crypto debit card for?
- How much USD would you like to spend / withdraw in a month?

Responses and discussion much appreciated!

I wouldn't use it.

It would be centralized, not truestless, transactions could be reversed and it could not be used worldwide, so what's the point?

You might as well just use FIAT then, there are no benefits for using crypto debit cards if you already have a bank account and a card. It would essentially be just an overcomplicated crypto>FIAT trading platform for users who intentionally give up all the major benefits of crypto.

Cool. Some people have told us that they want to use those cards to quickly liquidate crypto into fiat (even if it comes with a slightly higher fee) since it sometimes takes days or weeks to get fiat out from an exchange. Does that make any sense to you?

If the project issues the debit card themselves then that is a good feature. Being able to liquidate tokens or altcoins anytime through the debit card will reduce transaction time and fees when it will not pass any local crypto exchanger anymore especially if the local crypto exchanger accepts BTC or ETH only.

May I ask which currencies in addition to BTC and ETH would you like to liquidate through a card?

Like I said, if the project issues their own debit card for their tokens, that is a good feature. So, that means whatever currencies that offer their own debit card is OK.

I do not think this would be a feature for me. I can liquidate crypto into fiat quite quickly without overly high fees, new services has been evolving rapidly. I would recommend you to leverage advantages of cryptocurrencies and apply it to standard card environment. How can a blockchain technology make our shopping easier?

You don't take his word as right info. There are very few people takes the crypto card as centralized and more trust than bank cards that is not true at all in my perception. Most of the people want to avoid the fees between the multiple transaction.
Then as you said, it helps to liquidate the BTC to fiat. No need to bear the deposit or something on exchange wallet. General use of card on local places we need more BTC ATM on the concern city and region.

- What would you use a crypto debit card for?
As much as possible for daily use if not I'll use it as an extra card on my pocket so in times of needs I'll bring it out.

- How much USD would you like to spend / withdraw in a month?
$500 - $1,000

May I ask which currencies in addition to BTC and ETH would you like to liquidate through a card?
Add Litecoin too, it's one of the other coin that is also preferred by majority.

This might be the current problem for someone who'll start using a debit card if there's no BTC/crypto ATM on his location.  :-\

There are many projects about crypto cards, but until now have not been able to meet expectations. Their services are also not available globally. I want to use a crypto card, especially if they can partner with a local bank, so we can withdraw fiat money across the atm by using a crypto card. There are many crypto debit cards and you can learn from them, what are the advantages and disadvantages. Therefore your crypto debit card should be better than the one currently available.

I would like fiat money to disappear. It was a long ride and it is enough. We got something better for us now. We do not need to centralize decentralized cryptocurrency.
Centralization is only beneficial for a small number of people with masks.
