Title: Important ICO lesson: Cash out your initial investment
Post by: COINISM0001 on February 23, 2018, 07:13:03 PM
So Ive learnt it the hard way. If youre in profits for an ICO you participated and youre waiting for it to moon further, there is no harm in waiting but pull out your initial investment

This will:

1) Put you in a no-loss out of pocket situation

2) Your risk is now out of your profits

3) Its Moon or dump from here, so be patient!

That is good strategy sometimes.
But unfortuantely some projects don't even get your initial investment with bad opening.
Some are opening stable then go to the moon.

I completely agree with the fact that we are writing a topic for a starter, because of course your money should be immediately taken away, if you do not do this and lose everything, then it will be very unfortunate, of course, but if you take your money and then lose what you could earn on ICO , it will not be completely offensive

If you really believed in the project, and you saw it has good potentials to grow in the future hoding these tokens is the best thing to do.But if you arent confident with the project that you have joined its better to dump these coins or else you will regret you didnt at the very end,but be patience because a lot of dumb people are still buying shitcoins, worst coins are still being bought by these people so you still have chance to take profits.

agreed , whether it is ico or already listed coin on exchanges , try to recover your investment first ,
so that you don't play in hands of whales .
and always be safe from any loss due to any bad news in crypto market for that coin .

People's  greedines doesn't allow them do so.  This strategy  minimizes both risks and potential income. The author must be a cold-minded person,  because as for me such a behavior may be pretty wise and reasonable.

If ICO only went to the stock exchange, I would wait.

Cashing out your investment as soon as the end of the ICO isnt a good way of taking profits, because these tokens will grow more in the future i am talking a bout a couple of montjs of holdings,so these developers will have some chance to prove their competency in developing the project's full potentials. There will be big difference between the ICO price and its price after a couple lof months.

Good advice, but not everyone does that and I think it's stupid. Because no one can know how the project will develop, it could go bankrupt in 3 months just because people didn't know how to handle money and you will lose all invested money.

I think that this is only selfish.
If you invest in a company, the minute you get to 0 you cash out?
By doing this you are not helping the project and means that you dont believe in what it stands for.
I dont see why you invest in the first place if you just want your money back. Move it from a pocket to other.... its the same thing.
Maybe some noobs will lister to your shit advice... hope not

Not really any theoretical reason to do what OP is saying, but definitely makes it psychologically easier if you're just 'playing with house money' because you already cashed out a profit.

Whats the point? I only invested $200. If I lose it its not that big of a deal. I made 50k so far so it would have to tank a lot for me to lose my whole $200.

This is a terrible strategy, you are losing out on a lot of potential profit.  WE risk big if we want big profits.  If you want to play it safe stick to regular investments.

It really depends on what your goals are - I would say that cashing out your initial investment is a great way to allow yourself to feel better about taking (additional) risks, but at the same time if you view your initial investment as "lost" capital, then you can just let it ride!

For me, this is not an acceptable strategy. This is some kind of nonsense.
You spend 1 ether to buy tokens. As soon as the sale begins on the exchange and your investment is equal to 1.01 Ether. What's the point of selling? 0,01 leave in tokens? Are you joking?
If you do not believe in the project, why are you investing?

You are right. The issue i have with many investors is that they don't have an exit strategy. The issue with thinking about the moon is that you can trade like a day dreamer. Risking your investment because one believes that they will be super rich; there has to be a balance and this can be achieved with an exit strategy.

Of course he means projects that makes more than x2 after listing on exchange. Pulling out your initial investment is simple and good strategy without losses.

My strategy about ico is the same than with all my investments : I cash out my initial investment when the price reaches 3x my buy price. Sometimes, this never happens, but whatever, if you invest only what you can afford to lose (yeah, that works with cryptocurrencies investments made from BTC too), I still can invest somewere else in parallel with the leftover I own.

3x price isn't that hard for good projects, in this situation, I get back my investment and I still own 2/3 of my coins, which is still a good amount for the future  :)

It's case by case really, and depends on your strategy like all other investment decisions.
To put a blanket advice like this out there is just foolish

Hmm, usually I only jump in with money to an ICO, but only with money that I don't need in the future. And if for example I invest in 30 ICOs and 2-3 prove to be scams or fails, the rest will actually help me get back the investment.
You can avoid that by diversifying the portofolio rather than, selling a part of the coins.

you may be right but i do not believe in this strategy.

the more risk you take the more money you win. this is the main rule of the game.

That is very nice move, but the project's potentials wont be maximized if you have dump most of the tokens you have after the distribution so it is better to hold these coins for a little longer because the development of the project wont be that easy,it needs more time ,holding a couple of months will make big difference, you will see most of the people dumping their tokens and will regret at the end when the tokens has some good values in the market.

it is the best strategy, that is true

but we people are greedy and we have weak nerves

we always want more, that is why just small number of people can do it

when market goes up we can not HODL and sell early, but it goes down we HODL till the hell

Title: Re: Important ICO lesson: Cash out your initial investment

But it will also put you in a place where you cannot feel any profit anymore.
Example is a $1 per token and goes up by $1.5 and you just got a 100 of it.
Pulling out the hundred dollar means you have only $50 left worth of coin. When the price of it goes up again then you wont even feel the increase.
It is a risk that you took before you even started then why not go all the way.  ;D
Just my opinion. We have different ways of thinking here.

This only works for those big bag holders.

Some are opening stable then go to the moon.

Let's say around 1 out of 10 projects are actually going down after the ICO launched. Of course, it depends how you pick the ICOs.
If you are lucky enough to pick 10 ICOs that sold out in a second, then I doubt you will have any problems. Just HODL!

Yeah, the reason why you participated on a specific ICO first, because you believe that its a good project so you decided to take the risk, second you want bigger profit which is gonna happen if you just hold your token. Though its depend on you but for me better to hold.

These days ICOs make like x1,5 or x2 , not like x10. There are just too many of them.

I mostly buy in right after ICO for cheaper prices and hodl for at least one yearh.

I need to hodl for one year because of tax reasons.

Yes let's cash out our initial investment and save the remaining tokens, if you think future of that project better to keep it in your safe wallet like MYetherwallet. Holding is no.1 thing we can do for now.

Why? If you believe in the projects you are investing, this will harm your long term ROI a lot!
If you are dependent by the invested amounts, you should't buy tokens in first place.

I totally agree on your strategy and I have committed myself to always respect this rule. However, I have to admit that most of the times another myself has later taken over control and decided to not cash out the initial investment out of greed to earn more. Most of the times so far it has turned out to be a fatal mistake.

Nice move always take the opportunity to get back your investment as soon as possible so wont need to worry about the investment, just make sure that you wont sold it all, because it might have some good value in the future.Best thing to do is to review these investments carefully so wont be investing to these scam projects.

This is a good strategy, but then it makes no sense to invest in ico because you will get very little profit. Why invest in an unspoken project and carry big risks if you can buy btc or eth and get the same little profit but with less risks? IMHO

Each one have a different experience with each ICO's. You cannot simply say that all the ICO's would be dumped or all ICO's would reach to moon. Before cashing out you need to see the company, backup team and the white paper for future growth, normally all the ICO price would be low when launching and we shouldn't get panic. We need to give some time to make it grow based on the above said criteria of a potential company.

I always cash out all my investment in ICO when i got profit in it.
Early profits is the way better than losing at last.
