Title: Pizza day with Lightning network
Post by: bitart on February 25, 2018, 03:17:51 PM
Have you read about the pizza day of the Lightning network?
https://cointelegraph.com/news/original-pizza-day-purchaser-does-it-again-with-bitcoin-lightning-network (https://cointelegraph.com/news/original-pizza-day-purchaser-does-it-again-with-bitcoin-lightning-network)
It's the same guy who have paid 10.000 bitcoins for 2 pizzas years before.
He also explained a kind of secure payment method using the lightning network in a mail to the developers:

We have heard for too long about the network of lightning and that it can eliminate the current shortcomings of bitcoin. Earlier, even said that such a network will be introduced into bitcoin immediately after the new year that has already come. However, we continue to periodically tell how successful the cases of its testing or use on an individual basis. During this time, even a more advanced phantom network has appeared, which leaves data on transactions in blockchein. However, we do not see mass introduction of these networks. But bitcoin is still in a poor shape and has already partially lost its popularity because of this.

anything this new and this important can not be implemented over night. it needs proper testing and improvement for newbie users before it enters mass adoption. and then adoption will take a long time. it is not something you see happen over night.

it is lightning network not network of lightning by the way ;)

what better way to commemorate the day of pizza, than buying pizza again with bitcoin and this time he had to spend 649000 satochis. What a difference! Hahaha

Not the first lightning transaction for real products, that must be the stuff sold through the blockstream store, but still a very cool endorsement from the daddy of all real world transactions.

It must be a weird feeling being him. He's already a pretty big footnote in history.

Yeah I think first one was with some guy buying some VPN from torGuard if this is the first one (at least that's what media documented). Anyway this guy is already popular and it is interesting to see such things as this. This illustrates the point of how far bitcoin came from the first pizzas that were bought before

Is the Lightning network out of beta? Last I hear it was still in beta phase and testing was going on.
I want to buy using lightning network too  ;D

Is it even beta? All I'm seeing is developers pleading with people to stop using it with real coins which tells us plenty about its state of readiness. I'm all for ploughing on but I hope it doesn't harm its rep if things keep going wrong at this stage.

Is someone keeping a list of mainnet lightning disasters?

Main story here is the throwback to the original purchase. There's a long implementation phase ahead but this is a nice way to capture some headlines...

Laszlo is the Man! ...I think most people would have curled into a little ball and faded away, if something like that happened

to them, but Laszlo just took it on the chin and moved on with his life. By the looks of the pictures, he looks happy and his

house looks nice. {They guy is obviously not stupid, like most people think... when they hear about this story}  ;)

Great to see, that the "original pizza guy", who was a pioneer back in the days ordering 2 pizzas for 10k BTC or around $100 mio nowadays, ordered once again two pizzas using the lightning network. This is great advertisement for the whole Bitcoin community and the upcoming lightning network.

In his original legendary thread, he stated, that he hasn't kept many of the BTC after his purchase in 2010. Let's hope, that he was able to accumulate some in the last couple of months.
Here is the first pizza thread for those, who missed out: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.0

I'm still going to wait for sometime before I try it. Still nice that he came back to do another pizza transaction, LOL. That single transaction he did years ago is already a legend.

That pizza is a huge piece of history.  ;D

Once the LN goes through all of the beta testing, bug testing and so on, I really do think that it's going to be a game changer for Crypto. As the big thing which separated crypto and FIAT is the fact that I could pay for something instantly in fiat online without an issue, with crypto this wasn't the case but thank god it will soon be.

If we continue with this sort of innovation we're going to see some big things happen. I'm pretty excited here.

I always wondered who was that guy who bought pizza for 10K bitcoins. Now I saw him. I think he will be a "front man" of the Lightning Network technology. And it seems that his son wants to eat the pizza.

He was the initiator of GPU mining. You think he really spent every last coin on that pizza? I'll guess he had a few tens of thousands more at that point and might still have most of them for all we know.

They are still working on Lightning Network and the price of Bitcoin should go up after they post it. Invest before they do that.
