MetaMask.io interacts with the extension you have because It's the original site and you can confirm that by going to their Twitter. I'm not even sure how you ended up with the .com version as It's not even showing up in the first page while googling so you should be fine, just don't visit MetaMask.com again.

I know that it's not important to you, but you must watch for those details. It's .io never was .com
Scammers are everywhere today and we must be careful.

You have not been directed to the site because metamask blocked it beforehand, so I think that would be fine. However, if you're really paranoid because of what happened, then move your funds to a different wallet for your peace of mind. That is a good option anyway.

Sign out your metamask account next time after using it.

I think you Googled Metamask and auto-clicked on 1st result, right?

Usually the first few results are ads where it's displaying Metamask.io as URL destination, but the true destination is a phishing site. It's a common scam. Just open your eyes on what links you are clicking and always check the SSL + URL in address bar for sites like MEW and Metamask.

The original Metamask site is https://metamask.io.
and the site metamask.com it is a phishing site!
so bookmark https://metamask.io lest you be negligent!

Metamask is highly secured and does not expose your PRIVATE KEY online and as such you are been protected from unscrupulous elements on the internet, enter the main site metamask.io to avoid to avoid falling a victim of the phishing site.

If you are using the correct address of metasmak, then I think nothing will happen. I guess you used an application from a fake web site that looked like it :o

Just use the right Metamask and bookmark it. Use add-ons in windows to check for phishing sites and you should be good.
Metamask is safe and private keys are safe, so no problem there.
