Title: I lost 2/3 of my initial investment
Post by: kosuo9909 on February 27, 2018, 08:13:00 AM
Hey,

Long story short, I started with $3000 almost 4 months ago and now I'm down to $960.

I lost $200-$300 while learning, the rest was from cryptocurrencies crashing, and of course my mistakes.

Two days ago I wanted to ride the Nano train and bought in with all of my $1400 literally at its peak, followed by a colossal drop.

Then, I went all in on Vechain because of the upcoming rebranding, plus I originally purchased it when it was sub $3, but never kept it. Needless to say, it went down by 12%.

So currently I have $960 and I am feeling down that I am losing this battle and won't be able to stay a part of the history we are making.

I haven't bought into ETH, LTC, BTC because with my $1000 I would be getting nothing in return, even if they grew crazy. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sad to hear about your loses. And in days of declining markets it hits us all. But in general it seems you are jumping from one coin to the other coin. With this the exchanges makes money but not necessarily you. You should start to do your own research. If you look at the charts of most coins, Bitcoin was always outperforming. Just get some bitcoins and hodl them.

You can buy some coins which are cheap and have a potential to multiply several times.

It is useless to invest in BTC at this stage or any other costly currency.

I would recommend to invest in Paccoin as it has increasing demand and has been rising despite all currencies faced a drop. Its cheap so it would make a great choice for you.

I know how bad you feel right now. My advice to you is to rest. Take a pause in trading because if you trade now, there is a high probability that you will lose your money again. Good luck.

thats a really sad story, but as what im seeing its more on human error than the market itself.youre decision making brings you down.and i can feel that your investment inside crypto is just your spare money.so why not go for a long term investments for 3 different cheap coins that has potentials and ofcourse with great team behind.and just leave if into your wallet for maybe year of two

Experience they say is the best teacher. You can still make it with what you have left. Get some good altcoin and HODL . Sell them off when you have make profit not at a lost. I will recommend Digibyte, ripple , neo , litecoin, monero and steem but also do your own research and follow your intuition.

The only way you loose your money is if you sell at loss, dont sell them and hodl till you are in profit, Never ever sell in loss, doesn't matter if you need to wait till few months.

Judging by what I read, the trade is not yours. Select several promising coins. Invest in them your remaining money and wait. Now the market is on correction and now it is just necessary to buy. So become an investor.

It's a sad story, don't be upset. Many of us have made such mistakes. Just take a break from trading for a couple of months, save up money and return with renewed vigor. Good luck.

So you have lots wrong steps here and the very first is to invest into coins which are worthless already. Always remember when you are crossing the investment of 500 bucks then make sure the project you invest in should be far greater than any other and it's not repeater. Any project that's having related whitepaper or road map is sucker thing. Run away from that.

You should actually invest in ether now. Though it can't get you anything much but it will give you something to get yourself started and at least you won't stay down for long. Loosing hopes in the crypto is first disatrous thing anyway.

Its so sad to hear about your huge loss but my only advise for you now is to pause trading for sometimes and try an investment in ICOs so you can make some gains from it. Make sure you lookout for credible ICOs.

It sometimes happen to even most experienced traders. You should stop thinking about your losses. Regrets will bring nothing to you. You already learned when not to buy and when not to sell, you can learn where to buy and sell too :)

You shouldn't have the Shiny Object Syndrome...

Research then split your capital into a few coins that you think those will have bright future and just wait.

BTC is crashing, alts are not going anywhere.

Leave the coins in your wallet and then stop trading. Look at the major coins like ETH and others and buy at dip. Keep the cash for now. If you can afford later, double down the amount on major coins and buy only at dip or after major crash. This way you can possible make back your money.

It's a sad story, not only that you didn't make money in the whole bull market, but you also lost money, but don't worry, all you have to do is hold it for a long time, that you will make money in the next bull market.

The only way for you now to get out, but to zero, is to invest in a very promising project at the stage of pre-sale, and wait for the price to rise both as a token and bitcoin. I can not imagine other ideas how to solve your problem.

It is always sad reading this kind of experience. But it is not just you who went through the bitter taste of learning through experience. I have gone through this myself. I think you need to invest in the major name such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Stratis, Waves, Monero, NEO, and so on. You may also invest in new coins but make sure to always monitor their prices. If you gained already, try selling all of them or leave your profit and invest your capital somewhere else. And do not sell if your loss is already huge. Please HODL.

You mentioned you haven't bought BTC, ETH or LTC as you don't see them providing sufficient returns, but if you'd invested your original money of $3000 4 months ago in one of them & just done nothing but hold your coins you'd now have the following returns:

BTC: $5,482
ETH: $9,045
LTC: $12,155

Here's some basic tips I have for you:

1. Don't trade emotionally - Any trade you make should be well thought out & based on strong conviction & fundamentals. Freaking out & selling coins because the price has dipped or FOMOing in and buying coins just because they are pumping will always end in heartbreak.

2. Buy low, sell high - Sounds simple right? But from the information you've provided us you've basically been doing the exact opposite. Invest in coins that you believe have a strong team & a positive future, but buy them when the price has dipped. Avoid buying a coin during or after a massive pump & just learn to be patient & wait for the price to retrace.

3. Don't base your investment decision purely on coin price - A lot of inexperienced investors think something like ripple will given them a massive return on investment over something like Bitcoin purely because XRP is currently less tha $1 while BTC is over $10,700. They have this misconception that it would be a lot easier for XRP to go up $1 than it would for BTC to go over $20k & give them the same return. It just doesn't work like that. You MUST consider the overall supply of a coin before trying to decide if it is over or under valued.

4. Don't invest in shitcoins - Stick to those in the top 20 market cap, or those coins that have good team & project behind them.

5. Don't over trade - As my example above showed, if you'd have just bought & held rather than traded then you'd be looking a big profits now rather than big losses. Unless you are a skilled & experienced trader then I'd avoid trading entirely. Just buy coins you believe in long term, put them on a hardware wallet & leave them there ;)

It will be a good lesson for you, of course it is sad to lose such money, but now you will be more vigilant and buy coins only during the correction, and also carefully choose coins for investment, we are all wrong, so do not worry

You will pay the tuition fee when the cryptocurrency market, because of encryption in the money market is merciless, you only buy tokens at the right time, then there may be a good income, if you are in the wrong time to buy, then you will lose money.

If you still have to tokens then you didn't lose something for its only a matter of time til you get the profit you have been after but if you have tried dumping your tokens just to get into a pumped coin that also dropped after you got in then I guess you lose the chance. The next time you wait til the dip of the token before getting into it.

Im sorry for your loss, the first thing you need to know is how the market works so you can easily adjust when the market is crashing, there are too much manipulations today that i why almost all everyday we have pumps and dumps in the market, learn some basic technical analysis so could easily know when is the perfect time to get in and out in every trades, though your losses is recoverable you need to be sure that you wont repeat the same mistake.

Count this as a lesson.

You must manage your money in proper way and never to jump over a coin with 50% of your investment.
And never invest money you cant afford to loose, because then instead of looking for good opportunities, you will whining in forums all day long for your loses.

From this lost you can learn more about risk management and continue learn about new strategy. And now i think just take relax and just wait for up trend. The market has chance to going up in a few month because any time for downtrend and could be any time for bullish trend.

Sorry to hear, but like the rest is saying - keep your head up and take this as a lesson learned. My advice would be to invest in coins/tokens which are legit + have some upcoming events so it is most likely to at least increase in value. For example, right now NEO is hot because of the Ontology airdrop.

Feel sorry for you but if you start 3 months ago then you should've followed the december bull run. You also have to learn that going all in on one investment is very risky and you already experienced it as you go all in into nano and the result is very bad, also don't ever try to chase something that already up a lot.

Hi kosuo9909, you get more lessons and good for you.
I really like your spirit of courage that you went through a lot of hard time and you spend time on research like Vechain rebranding and so on.
Please don't quit, and whatever altcoins you are holding now just keep it in your wallet because you will then soon get and earn what you deserve.
Relax and take some coffee and cookies. Wait for the market to fully recover and you'll get that what you had lost.

That is very sad. But don't give up, I would recommend you to do bounties. You invest in your time and get rewarded for your work, with 960$ I would invest in long term and just forget about them by investing in 5 years. Everyone went through, like you (may be not with such a big amount of money)! Bad result is also an result, just take out your mistakes and this is great experience for you! The best experience is when you lose money, you understand much more, than if you earned. Go through your mistakes and forget about the money! Hope you don't give up and get back everything you lost and than in your own time, make a profit! Think about bounties work

After reading your story its totally your mistake,$3000 is a good amount and you should invest it in multiple coins like,BTC,ETH,NEO,ADA,XPR.Remember never trust on a single coin except BTC,ETH.Now you have lost 2/3 of your capital, now you are advised to hold your remaining capital till the market comes out of price correction phase and the price will increase and in this way you may gain some % return on your lost investment. Now do cry over your folly,be optimistic and have complete information before investing into something, blind trust is very destructive. You can recover this loss by participating in different bounty campings.

I think we can all relate to that, and I am sorry for your losses. However, I applaud you for being a risk taker like me, and it is all about learning from the losses that we have. Even me, of course, I have lost more than half of my investments by just holding all of them too much rather than diversifying my options.

We have no other choice but to hold on to it, and start participating in some airdrops and bounties to receive tokens that can be dumped to recover what you have lost in cryptocurrency trading.

It's a big loss, do not make it as regret.
If you invest, and do not want to lose then you should not sell it.
You can wait until the price is back in place, one of the risks you take is too daring. You just have to wait for the next few months, unless you are a day trader.
I do not have any coin recommendation for you but I just advise you not to invest in one coin only.

4 months ago? Those months are the day where all of the cryptos are on ATH (All Time High). If you are just starting trading crypto and you are on that months. it is very bad start for a newbie to start trading. My advice is to continue and dont quit. We are about to go bullish this march and now is the best time to buy good cryptos. If i were you i will start again by another 3000$ and i will choose good crypto only. there is no doubt that bitcoin will recover from its loss this 2nd to 3rd quarter of the year 2018.

For me the way you want to learn is too much agresive because you choose to trade a much higher amount than I do which is so much risky. And I know how much pain you feel and so sorry for that, but don't you ever loose hope. Just hold what you got now because the market won't keep falling all the time. And soon everything will be fine.
And, before you buy a coin, make sure to read all upcoming news, reviews etc., because it plays a big role on prices.

In business, losses are a frequent occurrence. I think you should accept them and analyze the strengths, find out the cause of such losses. Failure is the mother of success, I think you will learn from experience in later investment, you carefully analyze carefully, do not fail this time. Wish you success more.

Sorry to hear it. Losses are just a part of the game, but it is always annoying when losses come before first gains. You simply chose the wrong time to enter the market. Hold on your coins, study a lot about cryptocurrencies, find your field of expertise. Meanwhile, you can join bounties or airdrops that could help you recover your initial capital.

4 months ago is the crypto currency mania. Most of the cryptos are in its peak and if you buy for example a bitcoin on that time , the price was so high and holders was expected to have lost today. The sad part is that, you lost big while learning. I saw a lot of wrong timings in your part. I also saw that you do not have that enough patience to wait and decide what and where to invest. Dont rush things. Earnings dont come in short time.

I myself have lost around $1K already to a coin that I initially though will increase overtime. Sadly though it goes down and deeper so the best thing to do for me is to hold and hope that its true potential can be unlock in the next couple of months or even year. So I decided that I will be a long term holder of it until such time that I will sell it to get my initial investments or even just a fraction of a profit.

That's why its been said that we need to invest what we can afford in this market. Because its so volatile that you can literally lose everything in a instant.

The best strategy is to buy some good long-term coins/projects (doing the proper research) and HOLD. Trying to trade or timing the market is not advised especially if you are a newbie

You really need to draw a conclusion from this situation, except that you lost your money, you received an invaluable experience. Do not need to give in to emotions when trading, you need to have a sober mind. Therefore, I believe that you really need to rest and plan what to do next.

I am sorry to hear that. Well, I'd say in the positive you learn a bit from your mistakes. Personally, I started the same and I lost a good part of m initial investment until I started changing my strategy into long term plans. It's been working good so far, all you need is to spend the majority of your time researching about projects and find something fits you and HODL.

Before you buy some coin for trading or investment you need to know the normal price of the coin and related information that might be able to change the price, I've also lost some of my money by following the train, improving my portfolio and learning from what you've been through.

That's why i prefer to hold my coins, because it is more safety and as profitable as day trading. So if i were you i would invest remaining funds in one or two alts and keep them for a year or more.

I did the same as you but I lucked out and managed to break even through it all with the market crash.  I learned the hard way that day trading is not worth it, its gambling, you might win but chances are you will loose.  I lost 30 ven from my stack learning that lesson.  Its better to hold and then invest more during the dips than to try and time the market.  Good luck man, 1k is still worth investing and you'll come out on top with the right investment.

Getting nothing in return.
Looks like I just saw the problem.

You want it fast. You want it big in an instant. That is your problem. Your new and you stepped into hell without even trying to practice how hot it is there.
Think about it. It is like gambling. You risk high you lose high. There will never be a save point here. This is all real.
Just by telling us that you wont get anything from a $1000 investment with ETH or other high valued coin tells it all.
You should relax a little and make some plans again. Small or high, it is still profit.

You must have bought it at the peak. Its easy since u only lost 66 percent. Sell all out and put on the most undervalued coins like ICON. If you are long term hodler, you will get it back soon. If not go into a good ICOs and earn back the money. all you need is 3x.

Do not panic. The market is volatile and now is the time for investments and not to withdraw your funds from the portfolio. So prices will rise by the summer.

that is the reseko that every cryptocurrency worker should receive. because the exchange rate on cryptocurrency is very susceptible to dump and pump. fluctuating exchange rates on Cryptocurrency make us must be careful in making decisions to invest. We should invest with the money that we are willing only. different when we invest property, the price is certain and certainly will increase over time. then be careful in investing in cryptocurrency

I agree with you completely. Op clearly choose the wrong time to start investing into the crypto world. Several months back, majority of the coins reached all time highs and many people bought into the hype which has led them to losses at the moment. I advise op not to sell a single coin and instead HODL since this is a very bad time to sell your coins.

I am expecting Bitcoin and many popular alt coins like Ethereum to skyrocket in the near future due to many reasons like the integration of the Lightning network etc. Don't fall weak and HODL for as long as possible.

If you are  newbie in trading, better stick on altcoins that has a stable price and have a huge community. I would recommend Ethereum, NEO, Monero and Litecoin for starters. Once you get a profit, diversify it to other new altcoins that has a potential to get more than 100% profit. Remember that your goal is to get profit whether it is 10% or 20% in a month. It is  still profit. What I see is you lose because of greed. It is useless if you get  500% today and lose 1000% by tomorrow.

It's natural to lost man but you should put a stop loss if you are worried of losing too much. Anyway stop worrying and start again, you still have a chance to make profit just don't lose hope. Remember that in some part of their life of the most successful investors and traders they were times they had loses before mastering the art of investing/trading.

I agree. This should be a lesson by now. As I recently said here also, do not haste the profit. You could start small and feel the profit there. Using that as your capital then do it over and over.
It might take some time but what the hell!. After getting the ROI back it is like you are free trading and your efforts will be paid off.
Stop being greedy and joining the pump squad, your money is already at risk do not endanger it more.  ;)

You've made a typical mistake for beginners and buy coins at a very high price. It seems to you that the price will go higher and your greed says "buy it!". But you must show resilience and think only with a cold mind. If the coin is at a peak then it will soon fall. In the future, buy only those coins that have fallen heavily.

It's a sad story, and many of us made mistakes. You should stop thinking about your losses and carefully choose coins for investment and buy only during the correction. You will succeed.Good luck!

This is the common mistake of the newbie trader they want to ride in the fast moving coins but they don't  know when to get out when the coin suddenly crash when they entered this would may serve as  a lesson to you not to buy coins with out proper research don't buy the coins because other people say it would going to the moon  observe first how the coins movement and chart history. do some research if this coin has valid project.

I think you should accept them and analyze the strengths, find out the cause of such losses. Failure is the mother of success, I think you will learn from experience in later investment, you carefully analyze carefully, do not fail this time. Wish you success more.

Losing money in investment is nothing new most especially if you really don’t know the market. Actually we can minimize these losses if we do the following:

1.   Study the entry and exit of investment
2.   Research and study the foundation of your investment
3.   Having coach behind you to guide you
4.   Learn the dynamics of your investment.

Common errors can be easily corrected what we have to do is accept failure and look forward in rebuilding yourself.

Sorry to hear about your loss, at the start always spread your investment, and never invest when the coin is pumping, invest in a coin after some good research about product, team and upcoming updates.
