Title: US government is now partially shutdown
Post by: goxed on September 28, 2013, 09:13:29 AM
I think it will
Last time it happened during CLinton's presidency in Nov 1995 to Jan 1996.

They won't let it happen, this panic has happened before and it all got fixed right at the last minute, I think they like doing this to build up hype and make people think they can come together and do something once in awhile.

It wont affect me. So don't give a shit. May be they wont take my taxes (wishful thinking).

I don't see why they should bother; it's not like they're going to talk their way out of trillions upon trillions of dollars of debt anytime soon, shutdown or not.

But it would be interesting to see.  I slept through Y2K, so I may as well stay awake for this.

It won't happen in any real sense. If it happens, it won't be prolonged, and not many people will really feel it. This is all just like some retarded little game show. Pathetic, really.....

No, just the threat of the shutdown will be used to "justify" further taxing all law-abiders closer to bankruptcy.

We're not going to go to Syria, we're not going to go to Iran and we're not going to start talking about global warming.
We're going to sit down and talk about the budget and find a way to cut it.
Its going to be done either the easy or the hard way.

Not affected. Don't care.

Well - unless the USPS needs operational funding they pretend they don't receive and makes service cuts. Then I'd be slightly affected.

Hey USPS is a for profit entity.
So they said they wouldn't work on sundays or something, no biggie.
What I'm talking about is people living on section 8 housing, getting welfare and foodstamps.
welfare is also 99 weeks. Who the heck takes 99 weeks to find a job?
Or corporations such as GE getting green technology subsidies.
Or the military's bloated budget.
There is a lot of room for cutting.

USPS is very unaccountable, though. i have had many lost packages, and even with insurance/delivery confirmation, they never pay out for lost packages and they never make any effort to find them. they are worlds below Fedex and UPS in this regard.

It is a bunch of grandstanding.

The "debt ceiling" is completely arbitrary, they can raise it anytime they want to. Obamacare is a scam, I hope it dies.

I read on some tinfoil-hat site that a lot of things like riot control equipment and training was directed to be complete not later than 1 Oct 2013.

Also, the executive branch did everything possible to get us involved in a war in Syria which would be happily chipping away but new enough to be on people's minds about now but for Putin being a good chess player and Assad being a particularly intelligent and level-headed leader.

Of course the best explanation for the truly massive level of surveillance we live under, up to and including social relationship graphs of individuals, is to address social movements should they pop up.  The most likely reason for such an eventuality has always seemed to me to be the appropriation of people's financial assets to bail-in the financial sector (e.g., Cyprus.)

Is this the event the leadership has been waiting for...or I should say, the tip of the first domino?  If so, I would bet that things are fairly well choreographed and the supposed friction between the supposed 'adversaries' who make up or government is all just for show.

How can a drug addict limit the credit when they are able to print their own money?...

It's just a show to convince people they're trying not to monetize the debt.

Nice one!  That is exactly what happened last time IIRC.  IIRC, that was the end of the Gingrich reign of moronism.

Now, many years later, I am both more aware of the nuts and bolts of our political machine, and more isolated from certain of it's tentacles (thanks in part to Bitcoin) so I am more in the 'bring it on' camp.

Even more proof a bitcoin system is in need more than ever.

I don't really care about about R or D. They are both sharing the pyramidion.

By the way Obama shut the gov, not congress.

As Yuri Maltsev would say, I would like them to shut down the most essential parts first.

So the parks over here have apparently shut down. I guess I'm just going to have to put off "Never Going" even longer, oh dear.

Meanwhile in Congress...

How accurate.... Fiddling over fiat (fake) dollars...LOL.  The monetization of debt that started in the middle ages is still biting us in the ass...

at least, it's not worst than others countries who continue to spend money they don't have and making no cuts... inflating debt more and more... and taxing ppl again more :o ...
ppl working for government in all administrations are just useless, need 5 persons to make 1 person work, so many money wast everywhere

Title: Kabuki theater: NPS Orders Closure of Park that Receives No Federal Funding
Post by: Wilikon on October 02, 2013, 08:49:42 PM
http://freebeacon.com/shutdown-theater/

The National Park Service has ordered the closure of a Virginia park that sits on federal land, even though the government provides no resources for its maintenance or operation.

The Claude Moore Colonial Farm announced on Wednesday that NPS has ordered it to suspend operations until Congress agrees to a deal to fund the federal government.

According to Anna Eberly, managing director of the farm, NPS sent law enforcement agents to the park on Tuesday evening to remove staff and volunteers from the property.

“You do have to wonder about the wisdom of an organization that would use staff they don’t have the money to pay to evict visitors from a park site that operates without costing them any money,” she said.

The park withstood prior government shutdowns, noting in a news release that the farm will be closed to the public for the first time in 40 years.

“In previous budget dramas, the Farm has always been exempted since the NPS provides no staff or resources to operate the Farm,” Eberly explained in an emailed statement.

“In all the years I have worked with the National Park Service … I have never worked with a more arrogant, arbitrary and vindictive group representing the NPS,” Eberly said.
