Consider the fact that ether is still underpriced at $1,000 ($100B market cap).Ether should be well over that. Consider the fact that ether handles more transactions than all other blockchains combined!
We are still in the early stages of crypto, Though  the price of bitcoin will likely rise as well, but ether seems much more promising  to become the crypto crown in the nearest future. Some conservative predictions have ether hitting a 1 trillion market cap by 2020. ;) ;) ;)

But there is a question that always bother my mind, whether in future ethereum will always be the platform of choice from ico?
Otherwise, maybe eth demand will go down, also make position and market cap down.

Yep, Ethereum should be a good choice for a long-term hold. It is currently the main smart contract platform with a great DEV team and a clear roadmap to improve scalability

you are just saying this because you are holding ethereum and wish it to go higher so you can make profit. and i don't see any valid reasoning here either. you basically are saying only because its price and market cap are lower than an arbitrary number in your head then it should be "under priced". but as i said it is an arbitrary number that you have in your head. the fact is, ETH is considered extremely over priced by experts. and so far the only use case of it has been to create ICOs that are created to raise funds and then go away!

Oh really, you are referring to all other blockchains combined and that includes bitcoin? Are you sure? You might want to restate your statement here. IMO bitcoin handles more transactions than eth.
That will be the case if ether continues to be the main platform for ICO's. But if it is dethroned by something better than it, then it won't hit a 1 trillion market cap. Still, I don't think that eth will dethrone bitcoin and steal it's crown. It can always be 2nd or 3rd place though.

I agree with ypur statement. Better investing on ethereum because the price is still very under value i expect ethereum will goes to $3000 if bitcoin hold above $10k because ethereum used by many case and much good project for blockchain bitcoin  also good but i dont think the price will goes 1000x again. It is like gold in real life. You can expect 10x for bitcoin at 2021. And ethereum 30x

For me ethereum will be the next bitcoin in the next few years . I think why ethereum are good better than bitcoin it's because ethereum have a lot of partners as of now and some coin are base on the ethereum price and like the token their are base to this coin.  But bitcoin is still good investment and for sure you will gain profit untilw now if you invest to this coin.

No not totally that Ethereum was better than Bitcoin fundamentally because Ethereum has a roadmap, great team, amazing projects and active community. On Bitcoin it's nothing right we don't have anything and creator that still unknown but just by name only. But still Bitcoin still the king because it's the 1st cryptocurrency maybe 5-10 years ETH will be the first.

Anything is possible in the crypto market, there is another coin called NEO has the same contract future like ETH. Maybe ETH, will go down when NEO came into existence and already we have some of the projects are being launched under NEO blockchain.

you should always invest in something that has potential. and both bitcoin and ethereum have potential but there is the big difference:

bitcoin:
a currency with real adoption among merchants and is used in real world for things other than speculation

ethereum:
purely hype and speculation. there is no real usage. and that makes it a lot riskier than any other investment.

Handling more transactions will be enough reason for a coin to grow better than bitcoin ? Are you serious ? What are the real time applications to which eth is capable of addressing ? Could you mention any real time application of eth other than providing platform for ICOs ? I'm afraid you could never come up with any answer.

I agree eth is still in its earlier stage and its bumping may continue in coming years also but one day or other you may regret for your decision of choosing eth and ignoring bitcoins. Look into the potential aspects and then decide.

Currently bitcoin is indeed a market leader in terms of value per coin. In addition, bitcoin is also the best known and most widely used digital currency. But it can not be denied that, the price of ethereum is more stable than other digital currencies, because these bitcoin competitors have high market capitalization and stable price movements making it feasible for long-term investments. Ethereum has the best long-term potential when compared to other digital currencies, because of its versatility and good contracts.

I will believe if only etherem price is not affected by bitcoin's price, everytime bitcoin crash all cryptocurrency like ethereum also crashes, it seems ethereum price is also dependent on how Bitcoin performs, and not the other way around.

Or supply will go up. That's the issue right now. There is an unlimited supply of Ethereum. If for whatever reason they needed more coins in circulation, they could just add more. If 100,000 ETH just appeared on the market overnight, it would have an effect on the market.

Ethereum even existing for about over 2 years still doesn't have real usage. How come it become the next king?

And for 5-10 years for sure there are lots of altcoins who have better technology than Etherium. All in all, these coins are pure hype.

In fact, though BTC is an ancestor in the crypto-currencies and sits the first place in the trading market, ETH can have ability to handle more transactions. For the other hand, most of ICO projects in 2018 would have their own business based on the ETH. Therefore, ETH would be another long-term investment in the trading market.

You are probably right for a couple of reasons. First of all, its currently waay cheaper to invest in Ethereum now that Bitcoin. So from a finance perpective, it makes sense as you can have more for less. Secondly Ethereums plan is great in the sense that most ICOs use their platform to launch, because of the way they have positioned themselves, transparency, smart contracts, etc. and we are going to see a massive number of serious project leads with great ideas wanting funding, and ETH is the best platform for that. Plus they are the market lead on this, the pioneers, so they will always have a major stake until something totally massive comes out, which is totally possible. That is why they have to keep innovating, they shouldn't sleep on their heels. 

Many people started to fud over ethereum but they are all wrong. Ethereum isn't overpriced, its price is representative for its size. Problem with ethereum is "it reached probably peak market cap so not much to go from here except going above btc.

Both Bitcoin and ETH look very attractive now. Especially if you managed to buy bitcoin at a price below $7000. Bitcoin gets better. The introduction of lightning technology has already been successful. ETH is better than bitcoin technologically and bitcoin overcomes ETH by popularity.

In general, I agree. But I think that in the portfolio besides ETH should be BTC, Neo and a few coins from the TOP-10. One ETH is not enough.

In ethereum I am attracted by two criteria!First,its cost is much less than the cost of bitcoin,and accordingly the profit can be obtained faster!And the second,in my opinion,the etherium is more promising than bitcoin!

Your first criteria is good but Bitcoin is always promising project no one should compensate the Bitcoin technology. If you feel Ethereum is promising coin it is OK but don't underestimate the Bitcoin. If you have any proof Bitcoin is not a promising investment. It is the king of cryptocurrency market any other altcoins are depends on the Bitcoin investment once fall in BTC all other coins are down in the market.

Let's take compare between LTC,Doge,and ETH

LTC and Doge are the oldest coin but ETH able defeat their popularity and being top 5 in coincapmarket !
It means that most people interest on ETH but if you compare with bitcoin, I think it still way to far to compete, just take a look on their value !

I invested some of my money in ethereum because i truely believed in this coin. I think ethereum will go to the moon this year or maybe next year.

Yes, Although I prefer ETH as a priority investment and I have the belief that ETH will be the next generation to come out with a bright future. But in the moment, the power and interest of bitcoin from the user base is actually far more than ETH. That would make a big difference in profitability.

Yes, I have to admit ETH is a very good choice at this time to keep the future safe. But at present bitcoin and blockchain are creating powerful flow, it can break the gap to create huge price. No wonder if bitcoin still stands and continues to accelerate in value as the market turns.

Now everything is in a drawdown, but I believe in the etherium! When it was at the peak of its value, I did not sell it, but the price for it decreased! Although I believe, and I hope that soon the price will break new highs!

ETH has also increased in value since it started. It totally depends on the BTC. I bought and kept the two long, of course I still hold a lot of other coin. This is a safe investment.

Ethereum seems like a good long term investment, since it has been very stable in the past few months.

we all know this situation but think about it, there are cheaper coins as well. for example look at neo, it's only 115 usd. buy neo and make more profit. neo has ico projects coming this year too. you will see how quickly it gains value next months.

Ether is surely a high potential coin of future and is at a fast value increasing rate. But I think that Bitcoin has already dominated most of the crypto industry and has become the center of the crypto economy and no other coin can cross its value as it has very deep roots in all crypto investment. Most of the alt Price's depends on the rise and fall in Bitcoin prices which clearly indicates the importance and effects of Bitcoin on markets.

1 trillion is a big figure, even the whole crypto market is struggling to get there for now, i hope in march-april we will see market crossing 1000 billion in volume and btc trading in the range of 25-30K, if this happens we can see Eth at around $2-2.5K in may-june, according to my analysis.

Many oldest altcoin are still live in crypto currency.But Ethereum is always top of all such coins.If any one ask me the coin which best to inverse for long term means,surely I will suggest them the Ethereum.

Most of the altcoins are ERC20 based tokens that makes Ethereum so popular of being used for traders when there's a new ICO released. That's make eth so popular and valuable because most of the newly released ICO are good at dumping their tokens and this is one of the disadvantage of Ethereum. I can't deny the fact that Eth has gone so popular and still stays on the top at the market cap despite of being played out by the other altcoins.

Etherereum as we know is a widely used platform for ICOs, however, there are still a lot to improve in it's platform. If this improvements will be done, ethereum price will surely go higher. I think overall you are correct. Given the current market cap and the value eth due to in being the main platform it will be a fantastic investment and you will see you investment increase. A better investment than bitcoin long term in not too sure I agree with. I see many ways eth can be surpassed with other platform coins however I don't see another coin that can hold value in the way bitcoin does at the moment so I think picking eth over bitcoin is a riskier play

ETH has got so much traffic due to it being the number one choice for ICOs although there are other platforms that can handle ICOs WAVE, NEM as examples, if the ICO creators moved away from ETH it would be good to see how it stands but even without the ICOs ETH will do very well in the long run.

What will make marketcap down if not bad news? If all running as normal then etherium would be the most demand in the market behind bitcoin. Choosing etherium rather bitcoin is not wrong decision since etherium price is more afford to buy.

You have a good point this is also the reason why I keep buying ethereum, and in fact, had a buy order on some exchanges, Ethereum will worth $2000 by the end of the year, they have a new wallet release and it fixed some bugs and this is a good development.

Ethereum blockchain and platform still amazes me. It keeps producing cool games and dapps still. It is like a factory of cryptocurrency markets. I really consider to buy into ethereum more than bitcoin. Bitcoin is old now.

The reason I consider to invest in ETH in the near future is that ETH is well appreciated by professionals. Its future will grow beyond the first bitcoin because of the convenient features it brings. It is fast, secure, reputable and paid through any bank.

it is funny that ever since OP has created this topic, ethereum has been dropping hard even harder than many other altcoins and even harder than bitcoin!

and worst of all is the fact that all these recent dramas have been because of bans of ICOs and we all know that ethereum is only up because of ICOs and when they get banned there is no more demand for ether!

The only reason we need to invest in ethereum is ethereum used for issuing other crypto as a utility token with its smart contract. And the price is relatively undr valued if we compare with bitcoin ethereum price should 1/5 bitcoin price. We will see ethereum going up again when casper activated and ethereum entering PoS phase.

Ethereum is under 1000$,so it's suitable for the small traders.Since the money invested in ethereum will be low as compared to bitcoin,you can hold it for longer period.We can buy huge amount of ETH as compared to bitcoin with same dollars.If you have huge Ethereum,you will get more profit.

In bull market people's favourite coin will be the next Bitcoin. But in the bear market like this we face the reality. That is without Bitcoin is in good shape, none of the altcoins will hold its price including the Bitcoin's compitator Ethereum.

Eth is in for some real struggles soon. They will be struggling for customers when justin sun takes them all to tron. Free tranactions and damn cheap integration will make it a no brainer. Chinese will control everything soon.

I agree, moreover ICO have so many option to develop their smart contract for now, Waves, NEO. And other will come up soon. Ethereum will always be the first choice for ICO, just like BTC will always be the first choice for payment (at least for next 10 years i think)

Nope. ETH isn't going to go past bitcoin...

In fact, the hype for ETH is dying, alts come and go, that's the real truth.

Ethereum could make a run at some stage of its life cycle, but honestly long term you're still much better off investing in bitcoin instead. Remember that ETH's technology is what is driving its price, and if the ICO hype dies down and/or people move to new platforms which has more promising stability and technology, then ETH's price is going to suffer. Just like LTC.

BTC's value is based on trust, and that trust will not dwindle even with new coins coming out as shown time and time again.

I think we should never underestimate Ethereum, at this point and stage ETH is a proven
success. The only thing that matters now is time, when will it pass and start it's much
awaited reign in the crypto market. It's currently widely utilized than bitcoins in my opinion,
that says a lot. In my opinion no matter what stage or price ETH may be currently, there's
no doubt in my mind that ETH will dominate in the coming months and years. Ethereum
is just so profoundly unique, it may not be pricey but it's services and features are way
beyond it. There's a future in ETH, and it will always be a good investment no matter what.

Hopefully, this is true, maybe because Ethereum also become a platform for a new token. So, there was a lot of transaction? I believe if crypto will take a part in this world so it's can make the price higher

Most of the ICO uses ETH for donations (they call payments as donation), it's one reason why invest on ethereum but if you want long investment then Bitcoin is your first choice...

These are my considerations for holding Ethereum instead of Bitcoin:

 - Congestion and scaling issues haven’t hurt ETH prices despite a lack of solutions to them for the past couple of months in memory. It’s not as bad as the ones plaguing BTC, and ETH is handling a helluva lot more transactions than BTC is: see this and this
 - Both have a problem with a solution on the horizon, but not yet here - Casper and sharding for ETH, Lightning Network for BTC
 - BTC tx fees and wait times are hurting would-be investors. ETH still feels quick to me
 - Ergo, in terms of how it feels to use as a trader, ETH beats out BTC for now
 - ETH has yet to receive the full force of mainstream media hype the same way BTC did - indirectly, yes, but not as the main subject of discussion
 - As newbie investors start to actually do their homework, ETH has a broader, grander narrative that’s easy to pick up (ETH is the company selling shovels during a gold rush, quote unquote)
 - People will still buy into ETH expecting it to be bullish, either through anticipation of upgrades, anticipation of dapps/use case increases, whatever
 - In terms of how much hot air or hype can be generated, BTC feels overexposed and worn while ETH remains to be exploited

Again, these are just my personal opinions. I’m pulling these out of my emotional ass, and I suspect that my true reason for hodling ETH is simply because I’ve made the most from it before.

It is true that Ethereum is better than bitcoin in terms of stability and confirmed transactions and low transactions fees. However, when the price of bitcoin drops, the price of other altcoins will follow. Added to that statement, I am still supporting bitcoin with its ups and downs because it is still the number one and I do believe that the price will grow. Moreover, I do believe that the future of Eth is prosperous because it is the mini version of Bitcoin.

I would pick both of the coins to be in my bucket because both are valuable coins when it comes to the price rise. When it jumps both will give us exceptional returns and one will be able to make money from this coins easily.

All this is well understood and also agree with you, however about the capitalization it is not necessary to speak so loudly. Let's talk with real facts, the growth will be after the stabilization price can calmly reach the end of the year to 1k and everything, until we finish the discussion.

it is good to have eth in your list of investment but you need to bare in mind that you also need to divide your investments in different crypto, bitcoin and eth are both good investments, why not invest in both.
