Title: emerging mining hardwares
Post by: jwiz168 on September 28, 2013, 10:06:59 PM
Hi guys  I have decided to join the forum for the reason that I want to assess emerging mining hardwares. Sometime ago where bitcoins were hard to mine using GPU's. Now that several companies started to develop ASIC-based miners, its time to get them scrutinized. Hope we can learn  ;D.

First is hardware (GPU) available to mine bitcoin. Its a DIY mining rigs with current specs that we can find in a computer store. Currently, the highest possible hash rate we can achieve is around 10 Ghash/s.
The components are Asrock X79 extreme 11 series with 7 pcie expansion slot + RADEON 7990 (7). Total cost is around $5000 to $6000.   ROI :16 years (may vary due to hardware upgrades and bitcoin value) Status : Readily available.

Next would be the ASIC USB block erupter. Each has 330 Mhash/s rate Cost around $25 to $40. ROI : 232 days  Status : Readily available.

Welcome indeed!

I'm looking into the same question and from what i've read on this forum the conclusion is that asic usb keys should be bougt as cheap as possible to retain the return of investment.

BtcGuild.com was mentioned as the best option over e-bay because prices on e-bay can be too high.

Hope this gives you a bit of a head start.

the technology is going too fast now and too many people/companies have the capital to invest in mining technologies for hobby miners now, IMO. it's a real bummer. i feel like i missed the chance to mine and now i have to just buy buy buy......  :-\

In fact, one year ago, bitcoins were easy to mine using GPU's, now bitcoins are very hard to mine using GPU's  :)

I have also considered the space, limited pcie slots for GPUs and power consumption :) Those were the days.
