Title: Problems with mining rig Post by: Eronimo on March 01, 2018, 01:46:03 PM Hi guys,
I’m trying to build a rig and I’m on a point where i am very confused. This is the setup for my rig: https://imgur.com/a/i8cwA The PSU´s on the pic from left to right: 1-3 My setup: 3x 750w PSU 6x AMD R9 290 1x Mainboard: HM 76-65 BTCcombo 6x Riser (6 Pin to SATA) CASE 1: CHECK When i start my rig with only 1 psu (psu 1) everything works fine. The psu consumes 600 W and powers the mobo + 2 cards + and 2 riser. I can mine with this setup so everything so good so far. CASE 2: CHECK Now if i connect the other two PSU`S (psu 2 and psu 3) with ONLY ONE CARD, So that totally 4 cards are connected and running: PSU 1: 2 cards + mobo + 2 risers PSU 2: 1 card + 1 riser PSU 3: 1 card + 1 riser This Setup although works fine and i have no problem with the rig. The troubles come up with card no. 5 and 6. CASE 3: Problematically PSU 1: 2 cards + mobo + 2 risers PSU 2: 2 cards + 2 risers PSU 3: 1 card + 1 riser If i connect now another card to psu 2 or 3 and start mining, psu (2 or 3) gets under load and i can see how a random gpu fan stopps working, a few secons after that the PSU shut completly down. Sometime before i started testing it again i saw the GPU Fans of one of them was still spinning even when the PSU was already power off. I thought the issue would be of some power consumption. So i started testing it with a power consumption meter: GPU: 250w Riser: 50w Combined: stable 300w Combined: 2 GPU 2 Riser = 600w Realy strange is when i put the mobo on this psu the power consumption is still 600w . So i start testing the PSU who is running without the mainboard and shut downs on mining. The PSU reaching exact 600w before they shut down. CASE 4: Same as 3 PSU 1: 2 cards + mobo + 4 risers PSU 2: 2 cards Nothing changed same result like case 3. To combine all 3 PSUs iam using: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/0X0AAOSwQwZags8j/s-l300.jpg Has anyone an idea what i am doing wrong? ################################ UPDATE: I started a view new tests. Pluging all psus on wall outlet = nothing changed Tryed some bios changes especially (gain1,gain2) = nothing changed Connecting 1 psu with 2 gpus + 2 risers and started setting power limit on -10 -20 and so on I`ve got power consumption: 500w it shuts down after view minutes of mining , then 440w it shuts down again! The only conclusion that i can draw from the result is that: my 750w power supply is not able to run more than one graphics card at the same time if it is not connected to the mainboard, everything else is going well And yes i am using extra splitter. Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: Agozyen on March 02, 2018, 03:49:52 AM You've done a fair bit of testing already. If you can lower the power consumption on the cards to something a lot lower. I know Nvidia cards can be tweaked, I assume Radeons can as well. If everything runs on the lower setting then you need higher capacity power supplies.

Second, about those 8pin-y-cables. Did they come with the PSU or are you using a extra splitter as in your picture? You should not be using the extra splitter. @Eronimo You might want to tell us the PSU's brand and model. @Eronimo You might want to tell us the PSU's brand and model. Yeah you are right, but it should work untill the connectors on the psu is melded. (not that you want this lol) Seems like he is drawing to much power for the psu's to handle. A psu with 750W does not mean it can give 750W on the 12V rail. I would try this: set your gpu cores to 900Mhz each. So it will draw 40/50W less on each GPU. That will probably work. And it will still give like 24/26mh for each gpu Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: Eronimo on March 02, 2018, 11:33:39 AM If you have connected all as in the picture you have posted: The first statement wont help him.-Power only 1 gpu with 1 pcie cable from the psu -Try to use only 1 sata cable for 1 riser or if you have enough free pcie cables, connect the riser without the 6pin to sata adapter

Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: Eronimo on March 02, 2018, 03:24:36 PM It could be that this PSU needs some +5v load to operate properly. I dont get it, what du you mean with that? Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: nc50lc on March 03, 2018, 04:19:25 AM Chrome displays a warning to your link so I archived it for everyone to view: https://archive.is/zHbok (https://archive.is/zHbok)
So this is your PSU: https://www.aerocool.com.tw/en/psu/kcas/kcas-750m (https://www.aerocool.com.tw/en/psu/kcas/kcas-750m) https://www.aerocool.com.tw/images/psu/kcas/M/750/s2@2x.png Sure it can deliver enough power to each of the 2 GPU. There must be something wrong with the connections. It could be that this PSU needs some +5v load to operate properly. This doesn't makes sense, a total of 100W from 5v is enough to power any high end rigs.Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: Eronimo on March 05, 2018, 03:09:04 PM have someone a nother idea what it could be?
Im still trying to find solution Title: Re: Problems with mining rig Post by: bluecoinX on March 05, 2018, 03:22:34 PM I think you should buy a power source, at least 1500 watts. This is very important. Try it.

So if someone is interested. I have bought new PSU´s from Corsair, also 750 W, and the rig is working fine now. Thx allot for your help guys! ;) |
