Title: BTE Bytecoin reliable node
Post by: corsaro on September 29, 2013, 07:56:54 AM
Just to inform the community, this is a reliable node iP to load updated blockchain on your BTE Bytecoin client:
72.230.168.189

just add this line in you your bytecoin.conf file (located at %appdata%\Bytecoin\ )

addnode=72.230.168.189

save the bytecoin.conf file and reload the BTE client; and you will see the client to load (otherwise, will not work at all).

Yes, but it seems that some people still mine for "BTE" and anyway it is actually actively echanged on cryptsy.

It is very difficult to find a working pool, so if you try to make solo mining, and you download the client, the only problem, seems related to load a stable node at the client startup.

So I posted these info after some searches on this forum, and just for those who are still interested in mining "BTE" and well know the status of the coin.

updated list (as per sept. 29th, 2013) of stable nodes:

addnode=72.230.168.189:6333
addnode=81.190.222.66:6333
addnode=188.165.19.11:6333
addnode=24.172.89.154:6333
addnode=75.156.209.173:6333
addnode=65.19.151.2:6333
addnode=75.133.149.21:6333
addnode=84.240.60.149:6333
addnode=75.156.209.173:6333

Well, thanks for the list. Maybe it will help some BTE users.

note: the network keeps the updated block chain on some "stable nodes", so you can use this coin only adding manually in "bytecoin.conf" these stable nodes

An interesting development.  Does the "updated blockchain" have anything to do with the proposal by ahmed_bodi and his confederates to fork the blockchain and add Bytecoin as a merged-mined coin to bitparking.com?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=292381

Recent increases on the BTE blockchain suggest that someone may have pointed an ASIC at the coin again:

1) Until 9-14 block production had been averaging around 3-4 blocks a day. The difficulty had been pegged at 35k for months since a similar attack started on 5-6.

2) Starting with block 18839 on 9-14, block production started rising eventually reaching several hundred blocks a day.

3) Starting at block 20160 on 9-29, difficulty sudden dropped to 8.9k and block production continued apace.

4) Today at block 22176, difficulity suddenly went back to 35k.

I suspect some kind of manipulation with the blockchain, but can't verify.  Anyone have an idea what's going on? Above data can be verified at:

bte.cryptocoinexplorer.com (http://bte.cryptocoinexplorer.com)

PS: After the flurry of recent traffic started, I've had no trouble keeping 8 connections in my client with no "addnodes" in the conf file.

yesterday, I had no problems in mining some hundreds of BTE and successfully transfer them to my virtual cryptsy wallet and exchange them with BTC. So I supposed that my actually connected nodes are "reliable".
Further contributes from the forum can be useful to mining community.

theres been a pool running at bte.crypto-expert.com dsync and coinex. secondly OP plz could you add the line dnsseed=1 to your config file and restart. ill be rebasing bytecoin on the latest 0.8.5 base so will need 1 more dns seed other than my pool.

tghere wasnt any manipulation both mine and dsyncs pool accounted for 1.5th of the nethash which resulted in the above results we. there was like 20 of us in IRC counting down till the diff change

I've added these new nodes to http://www.bytecoin.biz (http://www.bytecoin.biz) :) Coinex seems to be hashing well with bytecoin.

Just out of interest what's the correct github for the wallet? I've got https://github.com/ahmedbodi/bytecoin/ (https://github.com/ahmedbodi/bytecoin/) should I also include https://github.com/bryan-mills/bytecoin (https://github.com/bryan-mills/bytecoin) ?

Cheers

hey, i've the ahmedbodi/bytecoin one is the current one. the bryanmills one is outdated so id recommend against it. I'm working on 2 new copies of bytecoin client. 1 based on the latest bitcoin base(0.8.5) i think and i0coin(0.8.0 for merged mining) still gotta decide which way im going to go about it tho.

i reckon wait until the next re-target. Hopefully everyone doesn't just jump on the coin push the diff up then leave again. I really like it not being merged but hopefully it's going to work like that.

i agree tooits better non merged. just people pushing up the diff is becoming a pain

Unfortunately I think it's gone a bit quiet.

The coin needs a dev really. I don't know if ahmed_bodi is still interested?

ironically, i just decided to google to see if its still being used. Finish university around june time. So that'll be a timeline for a new BTE client based on bitcoin 0.14.0

Isn't Bytecoin = BCN? https://whattomine.com/coins/103-bcn-cryptonight

I know I've mined some BCN as recently as a couple weeks ago, so it's still active at least.

Only thing keeping this scamcoin alive is MinerGate luring newbies to mine it allured by the fat the numbers rise quickly, and Poloniex somehow still keeping the coin listed giving it credibility. Only reason the price went up is because some instamine whales make bogus volume to jack the price up so they could sell their bags at a premium and buy it back from you after it dumped.

BTE is not BCN.

BTE has a post  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164957.0)that dates to April 2, 2013.
BCN has a post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=512747.0) that dates to Mar 14, 2014.

I propose to change the name of Bytecoin (BTE) to IOUnote (IOU)

Maria.

I administer the DNS tables for vima.austin.tx.us.  I set up this subdomain.  The way DNS works, if you do a lookup for a name with multiple A or AAAA records, the records are returned in round-robin order.  Bitcoin & relatives use this to look up a seed node to, um, seed things.  There are 2 addresses that may be of interest to this group.  To find out what is in them at any specific moment, see below.

on unix:
  dig  seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us ANY (http://www.digwebinterface.com/?hostnames=seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us&type=ANY&colorize=on&ns=resolver&useresolver=8.8.4.4&nameservers=)
  dig old-seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us ANY (http://www.digwebinterface.com/?hostnames=old-seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us&type=ANY&colorize=on&ns=resolver&useresolver=8.8.4.4&nameservers=)

in your config file:
  seednode=seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us

for ahmed:
  in net.cpp strMainNetDNSSeed
     {"seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us", "seed.bte.vima.austin.tx.us"},

if you control your own IPv6 address, ::2013:401 is an easily recognized number.
