Title: how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ? Post by: sbrzol on September 30, 2013, 12:50:26 AM how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ?
here is a transaction : https://blockchain.info/tx/ec5bc76182707a2f8b45e18bf024cfa5aecef6498229e1d3ac0bca880d2300f2 i do not understand why there is about 48 addresses on the left side of the page? can somebody explain it? here is an address in this transaction : https://blockchain.info/en/address/1PzrpRWJRzLtAdDtn1SWEAz2o2YHh9o13x it does not belong to me somebody claims that they have already sent me 26,474 BTC i can confirm that i got 26,474 - 0.5% (0,13237) = 26,34163 BTC in the below 2 transactions ( 16.40947689 BTC + 9.93273311 BTC = 26,34221 BTC ) https://blockchain.info/tx/92080917a31320a17bd8f64d01f7271f54341593aa9e902c53ef8f41e8b0ad83 https://blockchain.info/tx/73fed1684d8240f943245148951753dd1ec37b21ba21506d68a9a19e8cfe1e54 on these pages i can see one of my address: 1 M C LkWa9BU2vEt5vJG9nojJc78N4WN6dZP is it possible to map the 1st transaction into the 2nd and 3rd one? are they connected in some way? or the 1st transaction they give me is only for misleading me ? (and i got the amount from others) if not, is there any way to contact to owner of this 1PzrpRWJRzLtAdDtn1SWEAz2o2YHh9o13x address ? or how can i prove that the address https://blockchain.info/address/1FC9mQaPU7LXbZbyGLPw1gBR9xJ9tHbGRV on the left side of the (2nd and 3rd transaction) page belongs to somebody who (put the case that) denies it all my address: 1 M C LkWa9BU2vEt5vJG9nojJc78N4WN6dZP 1 K k kw4vfE41WDkfQhAgeQHZMG38oaMTta5 1 B p iAyf7sNLPSbchGq9y5KwHXd5Jq1UdZC 1 P q eeEnY23VwYVdRpjyrx9EtvacyZ9sN2e 1 K 4 2cYkr5wMND8myEhjfMvHxQVWmeq9Vok 1 K q B21q1EfbHjeeyTi2NxXcwzkKphsmfry 1 E Q ejhWpiqg3VaH8BMFkmoB6B2TRBiV8Q3 Title: Re: how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ? Post by: gmaxwell on September 30, 2013, 01:46:59 AM Your request seems a little backwards. It's not your obligation to prove an address isn't yours— thats basically impossible— if someone owes you money its their responsibility to prove to you the address they paid was one you gave them.

Post by: HellDiverUK on September 30, 2013, 01:41:43 PM Why would anyone send BTC26,000 without checking they had the address right? It's basically putting a banker's draft for $3.25million in an envelope and not sealing the back.
Edit: NM, retard using commas instead of decimal points. ::) Title: Re: how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ? Edit: NM, retard using commas instead of decimal points. ::) Using commas is not retarded, that's just a matter of locale. But mixing it up is slightly un-intelligent... Regarding the original question: If you expect payments from people, you should give each of them a different receiving address so you know who has paid and who didn't. So if you know that the 1MCL... address is yours but you don't know who sent you bitcoins to it, it's really your fault, you should do some better bookkepping. But it's really the payer's job to prove that he has paid you (by showing proof that he sent the amount to an address that you have given to him). Inputs of the transaction are these addresses, the outputs are desired amount and a little change that goes into a new address. Quote is it possible to map the 1st transaction into the 2nd and 3rd one? are they connected in some way? or the 1st transaction they give me is only for misleading me ? (and i got the amount from others) There don't seem to be direct connections. But without knowing the details it's very difficult to say what's wrong here. Post by: Dabs on September 30, 2013, 02:22:01 PM Giving lots of different people different addresses to pay to makes sense if you can keep track of all of them, or if you have a website that does.
In the mining section, what has been happening is that there is one common payment address (for group buys), and the rules state that the buyer has to either claim the transaction, or they prove they paid (by signing a message using the bitcoin address). In bitcoin gaming or gambling, the winner sometimes get paid back through the same address they used (if blockchain based.) Title: Re: how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ? Post by: DannyHamilton on September 30, 2013, 02:58:58 PM how can i prove that an address does not belong to me ? You can't. It isn't possible. It is only possible to prove that an address DOES belong to you. All other addresses may or may not belong to you with no way to prove otherwise. here is a transaction : https://blockchain.info/tx/ec5bc76182707a2f8b45e18bf024cfa5aecef6498229e1d3ac0bca880d2300f2 i do not understand why there is about 48 addresses on the left side of the page? can somebody explain it? Those are inputs to the transaction. Transactions are made up of inputs that supply value to the transaction and outputs that assign that value to an address (or more specifically encumber that value with a requirement to provide a signature from a specific private key to be re-assigned). somebody claims that they have already sent me 26,474 BTC And did they? Did you receive the transactions? Did they provide you with the transactionID? Did they send it to the address that you asked them to send it to? i can confirm that i got 26,474 - 0.5% (0,13237) = 26,34163 BTC in the below 2 transactions ( 16.40947689 BTC + 9.93273311 BTC = 26,34221 BTC ) https://blockchain.info/tx/92080917a31320a17bd8f64d01f7271f54341593aa9e902c53ef8f41e8b0ad83 https://blockchain.info/tx/73fed1684d8240f943245148951753dd1ec37b21ba21506d68a9a19e8cfe1e54 on these pages i can see one of my address: 1 M C LkWa9BU2vEt5vJG9nojJc78N4WN6dZP Ok, so it looks like they only sent you 26,34163 BTC instead of the 26,474 that they are claiming? Are those the transactions they said they used to send the 26,474 BTC? is it possible to map the 1st transaction into the 2nd and 3rd one? are they connected in some way? Not that I can tell from a quick glance at it. or the 1st transaction they give me is only for misleading me ? Have they said why they think that 1PzrpRWJRzLtAdDtn1SWEAz2o2YHh9o13x is an address of yours? if not, is there any way to contact to owner of this 1PzrpRWJRzLtAdDtn1SWEAz2o2YHh9o13x address ? You could try sending a small amount of bitcoins from a blockchain.info wallet and include a note. Then hope that they look at the blockchain.info website and see the note. But most likely you won't find the person. The sender has the best chance of contacting the owner of the address since they got that address from somewhere. If they can figure out where they got the address from, then they might be able to figure out who owns it. or how can i prove that the address https://blockchain.info/address/1FC9mQaPU7LXbZbyGLPw1gBR9xJ9tHbGRV on the left side of the (2nd and 3rd transaction) page belongs to somebody who (put the case that) denies it You can't. all my address: Depending on the wallet you are using, it is possible that you have additional addresses that you don't know about. Bitcoin-Qt for example creates "change" addresses for you and doesn't tell you about them. It then stores those hidden addresses in your wallet.dat and will update your balance with any bitcoins that are sent to one of these hidden addresses.
