Title: Is it possible to have one wallet for all cryptos?
Post by: AymDoo on March 02, 2018, 11:36:12 AM
Technically speaking, is it possible to have one wallet for all cryptocurrencies?

It is such a big pain that we have to use o many wallets if we want to trade many altcoins.

There are some wallets which supports many cryptos but having one wallet saving all cryptos is hard but not impossible.

It is possible and you will find wallets that support multiple cryptocurrencies but none of them will ever support each one of them because there is a lack of interest. A wallet provider wouldn't waste resources to develop something that is not going to be used.

For one wallet for all cryptocurrencies I think that's very unlikely, because each coin has its own wallet for their coin characteristics.

There is of course a possibility of this, but for security I would only stick to a dedicated wallet, we must not forget there are many Blockchains and sidetokens and of course differing algos for the coins and tokens, let's keep it simple eh.

Nope. Not possible at all (although technically yes, but it is impossible due to other factors). Since cryptocurrencies all have different code that would be hard to place into one wallet. It would take a huge effort to do so and a lot of crypto currencies are not even worth the effort of writing into the supposed/proposed all-in-one-crypto-wallet. There are online wallets though that tries to implement this, but since it is online, it is quite hard to trust.

Currently there doesn't seem to be one, at least a hardware wallet, which is way safer than online wallets.

Keep in mind though that many cryptos are utility tokens (ERC-20 for example). That means that you do not need a specific support on the wallet for that crypto, since it should automatically be supported by your ETH Wallet (or your hardware wallet connected to MEW - MyEtherWallet).

I think the every crypto invested should have a wallet of its own, keeping all your crypto in one wallet is like putting all your eggs in one basket and is not too ideal.

Yes it is possible to havr one wallet with all the crypto. But even if it is only one, they will not support each other in one wallet.

That's not possible, because each wallet has its own character, if it were in the world of cryptocurrency it might make it easier for us to find the cryptocurrency wallet.

There are some virtual wallets that claim to hold alot of different holdings for a variety of cryptocurrencies.
The first that comes to mind is iconomi wallet.
The second one is exodus.

I guess there is no wallet like that because if it exist then it should have trendy and almost used by many but none. I know a portfolio, there you can store all of your coins and let it go with the cryptomarket's demand for increase or decrease. But its not impossible to have that kind of wallet and it would be a better one, so we don't need so much app for computer or smartphones to have different currencies.

If this is possible so what wallet would you suggest to store many of altcoin in one web wallet?
As far as i know, i never find any wallet which can be used for storing many of altcoin.

You cant have a single "wallet" because of the different technologies and blockchains involved.

There is a clear demand for some application that provides a unified interface to multiple wallets.  However since many coins dont even have decent native wallets, having developers build third party apps with such integration is a dream at the moment.

A possible solution will be a local client for a exchange, the exchange having a commercial incentive to put the devs to work, and you pay small fee when transferring, with keys stored locally.  I'd need to re-read some white papers, it may be on the road map for some existing projects, and if not remember who gave you the idea to create this  ;)

It's not quite possible to have an all-in-one wallet yet. Remember that other coins have architectures that are either based on Eth or on BTC, and those two have separate wallets themselves, so it may happen, but not right now. One desktop wallet that I know is Exodus, which actually supports may cryptos in it, and act as a wallet to them too. But, it's limited to the famous coins, and some Eth assets, so it's not that flexible yet.

I think no one will do that, because each coin have different values like bitcoin. They have their own address format and supported coins values.

The hardware wallets, they support a wide (but limited) number of coins. Some coins that are not supported directly, can be supported by using a hardware wallet paired with some other software wallet. This is the case of MEW (MyEtherWallet), which can store Ethereum and all ERC-20 tokens and it can be paired with a hardware wallet.

So even if you may need a few software wallets to hold your coins, the private keys may be stored on one device only.

For the list of supported coins please consult

No, as of now since every coin is following different network it is not possible to have a single wallet (with the same address) for multiple coins, but you can always go with the hardware wallet like Trezor where you will have a single dashboard to manage your multiple crypto coins, still there will be different section to deal with different kind of coins.

Cryptocurrencies have many kind of wallet, its possible to store at one wallet if you have only erc20 token for altcoins like myetherwallet. But most of us has many kind of coins that supports different wallet, so its not possible mate that we can store them in one because its not compatible

Title: Re: Is it possible to have one wallet for all cryptos?

It is not possible yet because there are lots of new crypto currencies are created per day so none of the wallets can't support all coins for now but in future where the useless coins were fade away and only the potential coin will stand at that time some will be created to hold all the cryptos.
Until that you can use hardware wallets to store crypto currencies and MEW to store the tokens.

Do you mean having one address for all cryptocurrency? if yes, it is not possible because all cryptocurrencies have their own blockchain that stores all of its data. If you really mean wallet, there are multi asset wallets that allows you to store/hold different kinds of cryptocurrencies such as exodus, coinomi, jaxx or you can just buy a hardware wallet but only have limited supported cryptocurrency but much secured than those softwares. For trading there are exchanges that supports almost all cryptocurrency but of course it is not safe to store your funds there for a long period of time.

There are lots of wallets for tokes, but it does not make much sense for you to torture that if ever there's a wallet for all the crypto coins it's likely that all the payers will register on the wallet to do just because they're all will make that wallet and forgot their wallets. So fuzzy that you are thinking of because it's a wallet that all crypto can put on.

In a crypto world where more and more people are buying into more and more different kinds of altcoins, a centralized wallet system is becoming more in-demand.

It's a little ironic because crypto is decentralized, yet we're looking for centralized solutions.

I do believe that this is inevitable, simply because there's a demand and someone will try to supply.

It's not hard either. If you're on an exchange that supports multiple altcoins + btc, then that exchange already sort of acts as a "central wallet."

In that sense, you'd just need to make a hardware/online/desktop wallet with an interface that can access a backend that stores and manages multiple altcoins/bitcoin addresses and private keys. As I said, exchanges already do this... so if you just remove the trading aspect, then there you have a wallet that can do all this :)

Ledger Nano S technically supports EVERY ERC20 since it supports Ethereum. You just activate its Browser support, visit myetherwallet.com, choose whatever action you want (view, send etc), choose connection method "Ledger Nano S", voila! You have access to whatever token has been sent to your Ethereum address.

EDIT: Oh and it also works with MetaMask. I've tried it once but I'm not very experienced with it.

I'd love to have a multi-currency, multi-platform (or online) wallet that can not only hold just about every cryptocurrency there is (ETH, BTC, DGE, DGX, ETC, LTC, etc...), but also allows me to have multiple wallets of each (say, one for savings & one for spending), and doesn't own my private keys.

If I think it could be if the base of each token using the standard ERC20 because the existing wallet using this system. For example, MyEtherWallet or MetaMask. But there are also some bounty campaigns that require to use the wallet from their own making so they can receive the results of their work.

There are more than 1531 cryptocurrencies and it’s impossible to find app supports all these cryptocurrencies.
Technically yes, you can get 1 wallet for all cryptocurrencies but anyone can make its own coin.
coinomi (https://coinomi.com/) supports the most cryptocurrencies more than any other wallet. "more than 64 coins"
if you have enough knowledge you can make your own wallet.

Having in mind the number of existing cryptocurrencies this would be difficult to performe. Also from security aspect this is not advisable. Don't you think that is too risky to keep all your funds in all currencies in just one wallet?
But still there are some wallets that support multiple currenices, mostly the bigest ones Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. Ledger Nano is one of them.

No, at least I haven't heard of any. I don't think that storing all your cryptocurrencies in one wallet is a good idea. Then, if you lose your password or get hacked - you lose everything, if you have different wallets the risk of such event is way lower.

but its more painful that if you got hacked ung one wallet right?thats why even though there will be a single wallet for all cryptocoins i will never avail that.i would rather get hurt of many wallets than losing in single wallet.try to think about that.yes comfortability is indeed.but for me security is more valuable than comfort

There are some wallets which supports many cryptos but having one wallet saving all cryptos is hard but not impossible.

Can you give some examples ? I tried finding any such exchange in my country but all of them give different wallet address for different crypto. This feature can be quite handy in my opinion especially for people who are providing services or products in exchange of bitcoins. Sometimes buyer demand to pay in  a particular currency and it becomes a headache to create and store a new wallet for each crypto. If an exchange comes with support for all coins in single wallet address, it will be a massive hit.

This depend on the campaign that you joined, bounty campaign can use one wallet for all your campaign,  mostly ether wallet is the common requirements if your to join country campaign but in signature campaign strictly one wallet address per username, in the event that you try to register your 2 account with the same wallet address the campaign manager would detect you, normally they put you in their blacklisted list so much better if always follow instructions.

Exodus and Jaxx are two desktops multi crypto wallet that you can use, but I don't recommend that you put or store your coins in just one wallet, it might compromise all your coins and you will be left empty handed, like an investment you must not put all your eggs in one basket.

Theoretically someone could create a single wallet. Hardware wallets are similar to this already with several coins they support, but they don’t support all of them. With new coins being created all the time, it would be hard to constantly update to accommodate all those coins. I think it would be feasible to support toe top 20 coins or even more than that so it would make storing keys easier.

Before owning bitcoins you need a place where you can store your coins which called wallet . Every bitcoin wallet contains one or more private kyeys which are the saved in wallet file . A private key is the context of bitcoin is a secret number that allows bitcoin to be spent. The private keys are mathematically  related to all bitcoin addresses generated for the wallet.
Multi Wallet is not a good option as each wallet should have its private key.

It can be possible but do you think having only one wallet is safe to use? What if your wallet got hacked? How can you accept if it happen?

For me, it is good to have many wallets so that you can atleast recover some of your altcoins in case hackers or phishing site enter in your account. Don't you agree?

For Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash you can have coinbase wallet.

I strongly advise you to have two or three wallets if you want to store lump sum crypto for security reasons.

Good question, now crypto coins hackers are very active if we keep all our coins in one wallet then it will become easy for them to take all our coins in one try. So this is not good for crypto users having multiple wallets and storing our coins in different wallets is safe for us.

You can use one wallet for your ERC20-based coins like MEW. However, I don't think using one wallet for all your coins is recommended because what if your wallet got hacked? All your coins will be gone. I think it is better to use multiple wallets. Much better if you invest on a hardware wallet.

I think for now it is impossible and if ever someone will create a wallet with all your cryptos, don’t you think it is too risky? Like for example, you lost or forgot your private keys then all of your money and investment will be gone too. The good thing about having different wallets is if you forget one, there is a tendency that you can still recover it and you have other wallets that stores your other coin too. You don’t get to lose everything.

There are wallets that offers different cryptocurrencies but they are only limited. They offer only applicable crypto to the specific location or country. But I do hope so there app developer could make it possible. Having all the cryptos in one wallet will be less hassle. Less chances of forgetting the account names and passwords and for better security.

Wallets need to know how to generate new addresses and check for incoming transactions, and should verify that transactions (and also if possible blocks) are valid, so they will need to know some important information about each coin. Some coins which are simple forks of each other don't require much extra info, just the difference in magic bytes, port numbers, chain parameters, etc. While others which have much larger changes like those with different mining algorithms, different transaction structures, different signature algorithms etc would require more in depth implementation as well. So in general no, a wallet can't trivially accept all currencies, each requires implementation.

It would be possible but with so many new coins popping up daily it will be quite hard to have to keep up with all of the coins since the wallet would need to be updated regularly to support whatever new coin comes out. It's not really a question of if it's possible but more of a question of it's worth the effort that will go into creating something as complex as that.

It is such a big pain that we have to use o many wallets if we want to trade many altcoins.

I think as far as my knowledge i didnt find a wallet which will support all cryptos. The reason is due to each coins has its own specific characteristics and values. And more over it is not safe for us to hold all the cryptocoins in to one wallet. For safety and security reasons dont bind with single wallet use repective wallets which support the respective coins.

There isnt a single wallet that supports all cryptos because there are hundreds of coins on the market right now and it is a lot of work to develop a wallet that supports all of them and anyway people are probably going to use only about 5% of them so it would be useless to have some many coins on a single wallet. The only way to keep all your coins in a single place is through an online exchanger wich offers you dozens of coins available but that is not very safe to do because if someone breaks into your wallet he would stole all your coins

Perhaps, some kind of hybrid wallet, which will support various blockchain and transactions of varying complexity. Technically, this is very difficult. For all the crypto-currencies that exist, most likely, it will not be possible, daily new tokens and coins appear. Many tokens come out with a new own blockchain, so one wallet will technically be difficult to maintain.
Now there are convenient multi-currency wallets for daily use, MEW, Jaxx and others.

It is possible if all cryptocoins will be converted to a token. Just like those tokens using ethereum platform there are hundreds of them and they are using myetherwallet as their wallet. So if we want one wallet we must make a smart contract to bitcoin and all altcoins will use bitcoin platform that way using bitcoin address we can access all those coins that are already in its token form.

For private wallet  i guess its hard to create an application that can store all crypto coins considering each coins has its own common list of rules that need to be satisfied  and may unique to other coins like ERC20 coins has different rules  than bitcoin same as XRP, Cardano and other independen coins

In reality, there are thousandths of different virtual/Crypto currency in existence which every single of it has different features, making very impossible to merge into one wallet alone. Though I've already been in good wallets that is capable of storing multiple crypto addresses such as Coinomi for example, but it has also limitations.

As of now, I think it is not possible given that yhere are many cryptocurrencies. there are online wallet apps whereas you can store 2 cryptos at a time but that's way too far on the majority of cryptos. But maybe, sooner or later things might change. But also, you don't really need a wallet that can carry thousands of crypto since you will just aquire some given that not all cryptos are really profitable.

what is the problem when you have to use some wallets for different altcoin? and it will not take long. What is the difference ? I did not bother with it.
right now I guess we've got used to using MEW and this is pretty light. and for bitcoin there are many options. the most important is the security problem.

No. The reason behind that is because it is too risky. I know I've already answered this question and I am gonna say this again. A wallet capable of storing all of the types of alt coins is a very nice target for hackers because they will know that there will be a lot of cryptos stored there. Why seek for this? You are aware that even MyEthereWallet had already been hacked although that wallet can only store specific types of altcoins.

Well i think it is possible, because a wallet is only a storage unit so one can create this, and i think that there is one already, but as far as i am using I have separate wallets for my tokens and bitcoin. Creating a wallet that can hold all kinds of cryptos will be phenomenal because there is no hassle of accessing multiple wallets just to get your tokens.

Hi,

For me, this seems impossible if you really own several different cryptos. I guess that what you want is variety, and at the same time so easy way to manage all that.

Well, for now I think that most platform won't allow you to have that many different cryptos in your wallet. I guess that it is hard technically. Or maybe more profitable for them to see their users split between several wallet..

Title: Re: Is it possible to have one wallet for all cryptos?

Depends on what you define as a wallet. Its certainly possible for online wallets to include as many cryptos as they want. The users don't have to have much resources to use them. For desktop wallets, full nodes could be quite a lot harder, especially with the fact that some blockchains could take up quite a significant space.

Exodus is a wallet that does this. I wouldn't consider it as secure since it is a server validation wallet.

Technically, it is almost impossible. some wallets providers are trying to do so, but the amount of coins are growing with their own platform and their own unique codes. the wallets sometime needs to adapt, but not always up to date. moreover, if you are in bounty programs, they ask you to use their own wallet and in the end, you need more than one wallet.

One wallet for all the crypto's I don't think so it is possible because one wallet can have maximum only a few coins and that too only major coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero, and Ripple. Yes but if you are insisting to store you can use exchange where there are options to keep many cryptocurrencies under one roof for a particular period of time, But it is not advisable to store your coins in exchange as it is risky to store over there. I am using Zebpay and Ledge Nano s for storing multiple coins and apart from major coins, I use Stocks.exchange.

One option could be to install every wallet separately onto a very large USB drive. I mean, you're not having one wallet, but you do have a way to access them all.
Besides, you're not going to use every crypto that's out there, it's just not possible from a practical point of view.

I would also not be surprised if there are going to be more hardware wallets that will have support for maybe 50 coins in the future.

Because of the private key with many characters it is good to have one wallet for all your cryptos , but the question is does it really safe in that one wallet from hackers, I have  friends which are victims of those hackers ,their coin lost , the better they have another wallet not all their coins was taken out , so it is your choice one wallet or two.

It's quite possible to have a single wallet that can hold all cryptos, but each crypto would still need its own particular type of address within that wallet, e.g. NEO, ETH and ADA addresses, as these are not intercompatible. Most exchanges approach the functionality you look for, usually allowing you to store dozens of different cryptos in one place, e.g. Bittrex and Binance.

Although it is technically feasible, there needs to be enough support for a crypto to make its implementation worthwhile for the devs, so unless they stand to benefit in some way, they probably wouldn't add it to the roster.

Well for the moment I dont think there is such thing as a wallet to hold all crypto aside from wallets from exchanges. If you really wanted to hold all your assets in one place, try placing it in exchanges, most of your coins may be accepted but only those which are in the trade already.

For ethereum base tokens then MEW would be ideal because you can store different kind of tokens there but it is not advisable to just put your coin in a single wallet because if the wallet is hacked then you can lose all of it so better divide your tokens to different wallets. I know coinomi supports different blockchain so you can choose to store your coins there. Just check the app if your coins are supported there but if possible, just store your coins to different wallets and do not be bothered by different wallets because it is for your own safety too.

Deal with it because not all coins would just only on a single platform yet we do know there are several platforms where coins do make used on but the most common one is erc20 token based which we can see it everywhere yet its easy to make a coin on this one thats why its not questionable why most projects do rely on this one.In this case we can make use of certain wallet for these coins like MEW.

i agree . bitcoin and altcoin are usually seperated because both of them do have a different blockchain . however there is still  a wallet that supports all of the cryptos , one example is coinomi wallet . coinomi wallet is a crypto wallet that can be downloaded on playstore ( for android ) i dont know if coinomi is also available on apple and on pc versions . anyway , coinomi wallet do supports both bitcoin and other altcoins as well as tokens like erc20  .

I think you mean to say the MEW wallet to confirm the acceptance of ethereum and tokens. Actually multiple currency crypto wallets are available in the market mate. If you want to use that kind of one. Please go with Jaxx, Coinpayments or Coinomi wallets.

why I say can not. because the alcoin has a different address or code if you maximize it's wallet mew it can only save the coin that has address ox prefix that can be stored in purse mew. if you have a different token then you have to create a new wallet to store your alcoin. if you have enough alcoin and different then you should have some own personal wallet to store your coin.

BTC only can store in BTC wallet, Neo and some token in Neo-ecosystem can only store in Neo wallet..

It maybe possible in the future but for now no wallet have supports all the crypto currencies available,we have many multi coin wallet which supports the reputed coins only and you have to store the new coins in their official wallet or in the exchanges and for tokens you can store it in MEW.

Yes, it is possible to have a wallet for all your crypto but is is also advisable for you to diversify for safety reason so that when a wallet has issue, you have another one to fall back on but make sure the wallet is appropriate for that particular coin.

I like Coinomi as multicoin wallet, because private keys can be exportet for each currency. So currencies are even save, when Coinomi shuts down its full node services. Additionally it features many hard forks on several currencies and supports exchangers as built in services.

I think its not possible for us to have one wallet in crypto. That was not advisable in any currency because we cannot avoid scams and hackers if we gave one wallet only to use.Make sure to choose a wallet with security of keeping our coins.

Frankly speaking, I have not seen something of the sort yet. However, that doesn't mean it impossible, it might take time. I think it would be better if you use specialized wallets for its specific coin. For better performance and security I think that the best way to go about this.
