Title: finding blocks when mining in a pool
Post by: merv77 on October 01, 2013, 10:24:09 AM
If I find a block mining in a pool, is the bock that my miner found solely work submitted by my miner only, or is it a combined effort with all pool members/miners.?

I'm asking because I have been mining in a pool with 30GH/s for 34 days and my miner has found 2 blocks.  Is this combined effort or just my miner.?

you miner gets unique work from the pool, which you try to hash to a solution for the pool, in your case successfully 2 times :)

possibly but not necessarily, there is a luck component and you would have got different work from your local bitcoind to what the pool provided to start with and may have found 0 blocks

interesting, I seem to have a lucky miner
btw, it's a BFL 30GH/s Little Single and have been mining on eclipse mc pool for 35 days now.

I have to give solo mining a try, I know it's a gamble but I've never gone solo before. At least I can say 'I tried it', and it it does add a little more excitement to mining.

I'll have to do some searching for info on how to setup solo mining as I don't have any idea yet, but if you (or anyone else) know of links to any instructions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Here's a great summary. Just do what I did: read until you don't understand what you're reading anymore. Google any terms you don't know. Then come back and try again tomorrow.

Just your work, but since your in the pool "your work" is shared to everyone. The same goes to if someone else found the block, he also share it to you. So its kinda fair.

Easiest way to think about it is this...

Pooled mining = Share the work, share the reward (even if someone else finds the block)

Solo mining = Get really lucky and find a block yourself, keep the whole thing. (Good luck with that as far as BTC goes)
