Title: Advice needed regarding power
Post by: SuperVan on March 03, 2018, 04:08:28 PM
Hi all,

So putting my 1st rig together, everything went pretty smooth until I connected the 1st GPU (GTX 1060). I now get an error stating I need to power off and connect power to all PCIe slots.

I am using a riser and it's powered from a Corsair 1000W - but the Peripheral port,as the riser uses Molex. Suspect this might be the issue that it's just not enough juice? Not clear how to use the 6 pin cable for the PCIe port - as it only goes to 6+2

(also - I have the GB H110 D3A and that also has Molex ports on the mobo, so can't even try that)

Thanks a lot for any advise!

This seems to be your issue. A riser would likely work even with no additional power sources connected.

Hey There,

Have you tried swapping out your riser/ and or the Molex connector to see if it is defective.

Just wondering did you mean you can't connect the pcie to the card itself?

Also this belongs in the alt coin section;mods will move it

Thanks for the reply! It started up a couple of times to Windows - but I couldn't see the GPU under device manager. So rechecked the USB cables (think they were loose) and then it started giving me the error of power off and ensure power on all PCIes (this is during the BIOS stage)

You have to power the MB by both Molex connections on the board. That gives the power to the Pcie slots :) There are 2 on that board, if possible, use 1 Molex for 1 slot, so 2 Molex cables. And make sure the Board is in Mining mode ;)

Tried another riser but got the same "connect power to PCIe message" - so it appears it is detecting the riser/GPU but doesn't have enough power...?

Yes: The cables I got with the PSU only has a 4 pin cable going into the Peripheral port with Molex - so connecting directly with this cable from the PSU to the riser.

Would this setup still supply enough power to work?

(sorry for posting in wrong section! :) )

You have to connect those 2, then there will be power.

Thanks - I did try this previously (but same cable to both ports) & still got the error. Tried it now with 2 seperate cables and unfortunately still the same! :(

Also from what I could read I don't really need to power these as I don't have any cards in the MB (only powered risers...)

I presume you powered the Card with a 8 pin ? the 1060 I mean. You could try the card in the pcie 16 slot to see if it works that way, if that works, restart with a riser.

Such a loser!  ;D

I never realized I also need to power the card itself. Rookie mistake I guess...
Just connected that and it is working! Thank you so much! Owe you a massive beer... :)

Hahaha If that's the kind of troubles you encounter, you will do just fine.

Happy mining man :)
