Title: Will Bitcoin support aliases?
Post by: Crypto Piece on March 03, 2018, 07:47:28 PM
In short aliases are like domain names for Bitcoin addresses. They are alphanumeric strings tied to an address and unique for the entire system. So for example instead of sending coins to 3J98t1WpEZ73CNmQviecrnyiWrnqRhWNLy you could send it to SatoshisHotWallet. I think such solution would make it much easier to use Bitcoin and considerably minimise user errors.

Seeing as this is being implemented for one of Bitcoin's forks it's certainly a feasible solution. Is something like this currently planned for Bitcoin? If not, can we raise a ticket to Bitcoin devs so it could be considered?

That doesn't belong in a decentralized system, it would need third parties to redirect the funds to the right address. There was a proposal for aliases but it didn't get a mutual consent, to be precise BIP15 by Amir Taaki
