Title: Exchange questions
Post by: Cablesaurus on January 31, 2011, 03:59:44 AM
So, not knowing a lot about this I took my first 200 bitcoins and traded them for USD on mtgox. Then found out the minimum withdraw amount direct to ACH checking is $800.

So, I moved them to LibertyReserve... thinking Liberty Reserve would give me the option to transfer to my bank... no dice.

Now I'm faced with an array of these weird "exchange" services that want to charge exorbitant fees just to trade out my measly $80usd.

Can anyone point me in the direct direction on where to go from here? A little bit discouraging

You might want to try #bitcoin-otc, but note that not many would trust you based on your posting.

since he's the one with the hard currency (lrusd), should be easy to get ~ 1:1 exchange for ppusd or some such, on bitcoin-otc.

Can anyone fill me in a bit more on how this might work?

And I wasn't necessarily expecting someone to outright trade based on 1 forum post, but I'd be willing to use a trusted broker or service. Right now the funds are in "LRUSD" and appear pretty useless to me, however I also of course would like to avoid getting scammed.

I simply uneducatedly made the move to LR without knowing what I was getting into. I also am not familiar with the e-currency abbreviations folks have referenced, aside from LRUSD obviously, here if anyone can fill me in a bit so I can get up to speed.

Connect to the #bitcoin-otc IRC channel on Freenode. Here is a webchat page:
http://webchat.freenode.net/

Then just state the trade you want to make and wait for someone to respond. A 1:1 LRUSD->Paypal trade will be attractive, I think.

Here are the abbreviations:
