Title: How do I buy bitcoins with paypal now?
Post by: thegreatgeno on July 20, 2011, 09:46:29 PM
I googled it, and someone said a site called coinpal, but apparently they're shut down. The only other one I found was one that you needed to buy second life currency first, butttttttttt I don't play second life. Any other options?

^ would have been more appropriate.

But on a more helpful note, the short answer is you can't. There is no way you can do it safely without going through a convoluted series of transactions, or having your neighbor trade you some Bitcoins for Paypal. Even that ones a risk, depending on your neighbor.

Paypal doesn't take a liking to Bitcoin transactions and almost everyone who uses Paypal to buy Bitcoins are scammers.

You can't. Unless you buy linden dollars and trade them for bitcoins on virwox which sucks cock because there's a 60$ limit a day and you have to do all this bullshit, and the price is a little bit more than exchange prices. Or you can ask people on reddit. Nobody will want to though for the most part. It's equivalent to writing a stranger on the street a check for 100 dollars in exchange for a 100 dollar bill. What's to stop you from reversing the transaction and leaving me out in the cold to go fuck myself?

Deposit your paypal to your bank account. Then wire the money to an exchange.

Okay, so paypal is out. Is it possible to buy it with a debit card or is that also a no-no?

You could fund a DWolla account with the bank backing that debit card. But that takes a long time. Days maybe even a week. I'm not sure if the fees will kill you, but you could go to western union's website and send money to an exchange and have it there within hours.

I've made quite a few trades with Paypal (both selling and buying) on #bitcoin-otc. You might want to check it out.

I'm not gunna lie. I've tried using that but it's pretty complicated. I'm looking to buy 40 bitcoins with paypal myself so I might just try to figure it out right now.

There regularly are some very brave souls on #bitcoin-otc who will accept as payment your PayPal payment for their bitcoins.

  - http//en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Secure_Trading#Use_Bitcoin-OTC (http://http//en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Secure_Trading#Use_Bitcoin-OTC)

Additionally, if you are purchasing a small number of bitcoins, YouTipIt is selling bitcoins through a credit card processing site:
The problem is that those coins essentially are quarantined for a number of weeks -- i.e., they can only be used within the site (for tipping others.  After the holding period has passed, then you can withdraw your bitcoins to your own wallet.

In a bitcoin transaction, the client with the paypal account can essentially receive bitcoin then file a "chargeback" with paypal claiming not to have received the goods. Paypal sides with their client and the bitcoiner doesn't get paid or get his bitcoin back.

Is there any way to make non-chargeback transaction then?

Masspay transactions are not reversable, if I'm not mistaken. But anyway I suppose it will not be easy to find who will accept your paypal.

What's the deal with bitmarket.eu? Tried to register there since they seems to be selling BTC for Paypal, but no one is confirming my account.
