Psychologically, I'm finding it easier to stop mining at this difficulty level just for some fan noise free time, for the health of my card and to spack around playing games.

Anyone else having the same feeling. Days of fan noise just for a few frikking dollars?

electricty is 13 cents/kwh here in jersey.

and it's hot.

tried gaming as usual with my miner open yesterday - first time my gpu overheated.

think ima just switch over to selling stuff for BTC.

mining is just a bit ridic right now.

I don't mine because I don't want to wear my card out for Battlefield 3.

I buy a new 6970 (plus additional parts when needed) every 2 weeks.

I am not in it for the money, so I don't mind spending a couple grand every months to keep up/overcome difficulty rises every so often.

Just take a week or two off. You'll be back soon. :D

Regardless of current difficulty I do stop mining every now and then when I just want some peace and quiet from the fans.

(Some things Bitcoin just can't buy...)

I sold my 5970 a couple weeks ago and I regret it. Should have let it ran for 3 more months. I was expecting difficulty to keep on sky rocketing. At least I made $200 profit off it though. The way I see it I can now buy about 5 months worth of bitcoins and not worry about the noise, heat and electricity or tying up my computer. The card was probably going to die anyway.

As with most electronics.
They don't 'wear out' noticeably faster with normal use, unless you over-volt or -heat them they will live a long life.

I'm hoping to make enough from Bitcoin to be able to have a dedicated rig with a 6990 ready for when BF3 comes out. The games going to be kickass IMO.

As for not mining, I can't stop - I'm well addicted now.  :P

if it bothers u that much buy a better heatsink.

then you get quiet, AND still have some mining going on

I think so it's a good idea, everybody should stop mining for a few hours each day to get some peaceful and quiet time. ;)

Unfortunately I am having hearing difficulties so am unable to join everybody else in this excellent rest time. :D

Now that I only lose .03 btc for turning off one of my 5870s for a few hours I have been catching up on the games I have been missing.

I stopped mining bitcoins
because namecoin difficulty dropped lol

I stopped mining for 2 days because of the blistering heat.  My AC could not keep up.  Back online now that the temp has dropped.  It ell evened out though when the MTGOX price spiked to almost 15 and all my coins sold.  Boucht again when it was low and recouped about as much coins as I would have mined.  Happy Days!

Bitcoin for me is a hobby, anyway you could always sell the cards and with the profits made from mining theoretically you should come out above your investment. As long as I am covering the cost of electricity I am okay with mining for bitcoins.

Since I do like the idea of a decentralized DNS, although I don't really think there's much value in a NC that only works with .bit domains, I'll sacrifice a few BCs and contribute some hashes for a day or two if it's any help.

I'm also using my bitcoins to (slooowly) build up a good gaming rig.  I got the case (corsair 800d), and now working towards a 6990 (or two, depending on how well bitcoins do later in the year).  I was never in it to profit (plus I didn't get into bitcoins until May).  Just for some casual cash to buy computer crap that my wife won't let me buy.
 
She doesn't see the few extra cents per month in electricity, and also doesn't see any unusual credit card purchases (thanks to newegg gift cards purchased via bitcoins) :)
 
I'll admit I should have got the 6990 first before the case (so that I could earn more bitcoins to make this faster)... but my current case can barely keep my 5770s cool, so I needed to get that first.
 
After 6990s will come some SSDs :)

Just ordered 14 x 1250 watt power supply, to be delivered tuesday.
Outstanding order of 37 x 6970 to be delivered 2nd of August.

Small stugg on the side.

Monday I sign the lease for a 42 rack data center location that will go operational the moment we get DSL there ;)

if anything fails, in September I have 150 x 6970 for sale ;)
