Title: A shove in the rite direction... Post by: terrapinflyer on October 01, 2013, 11:31:49 PM So I am completely new to Debian the only knowledge I do have is very limited so some raspi projects. That being said I have recently built a Linux box form an old windows desktop that has been sitting idol in my office for some time. My intentions are to use this build to manage my torrents and share media with the other users in my network. I have decided to run either Gnome or Kweezy. I am wondering if some of you can point me to some resources that could help me with this project. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I have been hitting a wall in my Google searches.

What exactly do you wanna do? This machine is running an Intel Quad Core Q9300 @ 2.5GHz with 8Gb of ram and a Radeon 4350 video card on an Intel DG45ID Motherboard and currently running Kwheezy. Like I said in the OP I would like this build to be the main brain for my media center and torrent trackers. eventually I would like to set up FTP so that I could grab media from outside the sever. But for now Id like to keep it simple. As far as documentation for linux goes its hard to beat the Arch wiki - https://wiki.archlinux.org/ To be honest though, if you are new to linux, Debian is maybe not the best way to go. I chose it because it seems to be very stable and have tuns of support. Could you give me a suggestion if I where to go another direction? Thanks for the help guys! Managing torrents, try deluge or vuze, for having the files available there a quite a few options, the easiest one SSH, you can try winscp for coping on windows, don't know how to mount on windows, but if on linux you can mount easily with sshfs. So I think I will try to recreate my success there, as far as my tracker go's I was leaning towards transmission. Ill keep plugging away and see what results I get. ;D Deluge is my favorite, just one problem (the same old problem with debian :)), it's still version 1.3.3, and there is not the ability to add magnet links remotely, you need first convert to .torrent, other than that works great, plus you have a lot of plugins to customize Deluge for your needs. |
