Title: 0.1 Silver Casascius Coins USA Group Buy
Post by: johnniewalker on October 02, 2013, 12:11:08 AM
OgNasty has taken this over. Check out his thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=310226.0

I don't see any other threads about this.  I've ran a few group buys in the past and would be willing to run a USA only group buy for this if people were willing to pay 0.55 BTC per coin with free shipping.  Just offering.   ;)

I'd be happy to organize this...at no real premium. I'll just create an address (which will be made public) that you can send payment to (AFTER you tell me you're going to make a payment and give me the transaction ID). As far as shipping prices go, we would all just pay our share of Casascius's shipping fee, $2 for me to ship you your coin or coins (via USPS trackable) and .015 BTC I ask for materials and handling/organization otherwise.
If anyone wants to verify my trust I could put you in touch with a few people. The first person I'd tell you to talk to would be DobZombie (he has said its ok to reference him publicly). I am sent his goods domestically and I forward them onto him in Australia. This has included Silver Casascius Bitcoins and 20 OgNasty rounds that he was given for designing the round (if you didn't know he's quite the designer).
If anyone is interested, please post on here. I'm really only looking to do only one order of 20. I feel like I can manage the logistics of that fine-any more I wouldn't want to do (unless I was compensated). I want to set this up so everybody who wants a coin can get one. Depending on the response, maybe we could/should limit it to 2 coins per person?

if they wouldnt be too far away you could send those other things with them :) if these will be a few months away then would you feel like sending these seperately?

Are you planning on running this group buy JW?  Might want to start a tracking thread to see where we stand.

Yep, I'm still here. I'm only in for 1, so looks like we're at 9 (Dobs PM'd). SO, 11 more.

Consider one more available. I bought something else with the funds in my hot wallet and don't want to start cracking open the Casascius coins I have. Really sorry to bail.

Although, I'd still be happy to organize all aspects of the group buy for the last remaining coin.

Looks like OgNasty started another group buy for this.  Is everyone migrating to that one or sticking here?  Not sure what the final price will be here.

JW - might be a good idea to start a commit list, fixed price per coin and shipping costs and collecting BTC to see if we can order.

It sounded like johnniewalker wasn't going to move forward with this buy, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

No. I do not trust that guy at all. Ill buy directly if anyone wants a few at cost let me know.
I don't have any qualms about trusting him, but 0.55BTC/ea is a lot. Goat-if you're still interested in that coin could you subtract what one of these would cost me?

Yes, it is sort of "too much".  If these were for me, I'd wait, but since I am getting them for someone else, its all good.

I purchased a 1 BTC silver coin through his group buy and it worked great, but the cost here is a little to steep for a .1.  I will buy 2 Goat if you do a direct order.

Is 0.55BTC/ea a lot?  When I did the math, re-shipping and the coins alone will come out to 0.5BTC/ea.  I thought 0.05BTC/ea for shipping materials/printing/gas/time was fair.  I'll throw in an additional 1g of silver (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=273629.msg2933233#msg2933233) with each order as an offer of my thanks, or I can refund your BTC (before placing the GB order) if you'd like.  No worries.

My feelings toward Goat are mutual, believe me...

It would only really be a lot if folks order lots each.  If you had 3 orders of 6 each you would get two free for yourself and make some BTC on the side.  If everyone orders one, you would not make so much...  The pricing structure offered thus encourages small orders.

Agreed.  For the sake of simplicity and thinking that everyone only wanted 1 of these coins for their collections like myself, I didn't split shipping costs from the coin costs.  If you're interested in a larger order, I'd be happy to work out an arrangement.  I'm not trying to retire here.  ;)

I'm not knocking your hustle. You make a good point. And you are offering something that otherwise isn't offered, so I can't really say anything. I just wonder what it is that Casascius will have us overpaying for next!
