Title: For some reason I find this symbol suspicious...
Post by: pugman on March 04, 2018, 07:11:55 AM
Hey ya'll,
Since a couple of days I have been noticing a weird symbol while I make a post or send a message to someone on this forum via my mobile. I'm for some reason a bit worried on this.

Its on the bottom right corner. Should I worry about this? Is this dangerous? Theymos, you have anything to say on this? Is it a problem on my phone? Or in general? Or should I just let go?

Looks like the Volume is muted on your phone?

Have not seen this symbol before, maybe it has something to do with wifi or internet connection?

Even if it does why is it showing up in a text editor while you write posts.

Nope. Has no relation whatsoever.
One more thing I noticed, initially no symbols show up but a few seconds later they do. I  use Firefox on Android so if it is related to that... Is it by any chance a sort of a keylogger?

I have never seen that symbol before. I use Chrome on my phone, and I don't have that symbol.
There are tree possibilities:
- its related to your phone (possible if only you have that symbol, but I doubt this possibility)
- its related to browser you use (try out some other browser, if symbol is still thare than its not browser)
- its related to some setting from the forum (but non comes to my mind)

Honestly I doubt its harmful, but I understand your concern. Tell us when you find the explanation or solution.

EDIT: I have installed Firefox on my android, and tried to make post and p.message. Waited for some time, but symbol didn't show. So I guess its not browser related, but it would be good if other people try it as well.

Have you got voice input disabled for google or some other voice to text writer?

The symbol looks like a wifi/signal connection. However  I'm also not familiar with it, but if you find nothing weird on your phone and if it's working normal just like before I think you don't have to worry about anything.

Funny thing,I have cloned Firefox app and I have two Firefox browsers on my phone. This symbol only shows up on in the main browser and not in that of the duplicate. I believe only I'm experiencing this atleast from what I have known. And I don't think this is there in chrome either.

I haven't. I doubt it's related to voice related issue.

I suspect that a hacker is tracking me, am very suspicious about it.

I see only two options now. You can reinstall browser, that would probably solve the problem.
Second is, installing some protective software to check if your phone is infected, and trying to clean it.
Last resort would be factory reset (hard reset), that would  probably clean your phone. But I know little about viruses, maybe some  could stay even after hard reset, but I doubt it.

Try restarting your mobile and look for it if it is still there, maybe it is just some indicator on your connection or on the volume of your mobile or something, I guess there is nothing to worry about since it is just there on your mobile device, start worrying if your mobile device is starting to activate apps on its own or opening your browser on its own.

Or maybe try to reset your phone, if you run out of options and you are still worrying about it.

I installed malwarebytes, avast Antivirus and AVG, and none of them showed any signs. Maybe I should try reinstalling. A factory reset will be the last thing I'll do because I have transfer a lot of data first. I'll see what happens after reinstallation.

Nope it's the tracking software they use. It connects to the big brother server and sends a direct link from your microphone

Assuming it's an android phone you need to pop the screen, pull the red cable from the mike then add a dollop of superglue and attach it to the charging cable. Once it is dry you need to charge the phone fully then put it in the freezer for 24 mins, then in the microwave for 12 hours without turning it on.

Once those steps are complete you need to take your phone to a full length mirror. Reassemble the phone then record yourself as you repeatedly punch yourself in the face for being such a prick

No problemo. Humor is a must in most circumstances.
Issue solved. Thread locked.
