No not really... this is actually a misconception. Fee varies from few cents to couple of dollars. Don't use exchanges for Bitcoin payments, but use your wallet and do a direct payment.

Actually no. Converting you BTC to fiat money you will be paying higher fees and slow processing. For example first you have to use any exchange to convert BTC to Fiat Money and these withdrawal charges are quite high. Then transfer Money to your bank account which take 1 or more days in processing.

So why not buy directly with BTC... nominal fees of headache of banking procedures are gone.

Nice thread, I think that now that the fees are low again, and segwit adoption is increasing, and lightning network is also increasing it's number of nodes and channels quite rapidly (if you consider it's still in beta), we will definitely see the number of stores and merchants accepting bitcoin as a payment method grow in number. I don't understand why steem is not accepting bitcoin again already. Hopefully they will change their mind soon, as the big names start moving into bitcoin.

i think btc not taking over other currencies he just expanding its reach because btc does not currently contribute much in terms of btc spending , in this case btc will be one step ahead of the currency because currently using btc almost all over the world but still can not replace the position of fiat for now, that was just i think ;)

The fees aren't that high anymore, I've seen people posting that they did transactions with 1 input and 2 outputs for less than 20 cents. Merchants that accept Bitcoins for micro-payments, tend to not really care about fast confirmations, so you don't have to increase the fee to get it included in the next block.

Steam also using bitcoin long ago but now they seems to stop it at the moment , Steam, stated "high prices and volatility" had driven it to prevent accepting them.

It stated that fees to process Bitcoin payments had "skyrocketed" in 2017, making the virtual forex a whole lot less attractive as an alternative.

if you practically see; Pizza is worst for your health.  It is made up of very fine floor which is very much dangerous for your digestion.  So I suggest ; if anyone is sick of pizza he may just try it once in a month of two not more than that; if you love your health do not eat such foods. (though my third and fourth line does not relate to the topic} but just for the sake of health of all ; i could not stop mentioning this.

Well this is a good thread to start with using bitcoins as a means of payment for the likes of us who could not be able to travel abroad and who had only a little bitcoin holdings that could not even get merely a bitcoin because i had only few in decimal will only use bitcoins as a means of savings. I rather save it because for now but given a chance to get a huge number of bitcoin then why not spend. If only i had lots of bitcoin to start with spending.

I really hate to be one of the people who will in the near future regret buying something like a furniture or a pizza when the value of Bitcoins rises significantly in the near future. I will rather use my FIAT to buy things and continue holding my cryptos.

That is what people had misconception about bitcoin.  I think we need to use bitcoin more often so that bitcoin become more adoptable to more people.  Bitcoin was designed to be currency and not store of value.  If all people just hodl bitcoin then how can it develop as currency.  I don't mean to spend all your bitcoins but at least a portion of your profit to buy things so that more merchants are encouraged to receive bitcoins as payment.  That way it can grow and become a universal currency.

I like to see more and more places where we can buy stuff with BTC and altcoins. I also now am seeing Pundi X roll out it's xpos pos machines to retailers as well, so soon we will have people going into their favorite high street store and buying stuff with crypto, buying and selling their crypto instore as well, without having to only do it through logging into exchanges. A lot of people who are not happy to use exchanges would like this alternative way of dealing with BTC and altcoins.

Let me add the information about this great news, in my own experience i try to purchase some goods from amazon.com and alibaba.com and pay those goods using bitcoin and i surprised it works. in indonesia i can purchase a drink in starbucks and it works, because in teller they inform that "receipt payment by bitcoin". Another additional information, bitcoin also accepted as a payment methode in many hotel and restaurant in Bali Island.

My opinion is also the same - that BTC should be used more like a currency and not like an investment tool. However, look at what gold used to be - it was storing value that was held for investing purposes and at the same time you could trade with it. All resources and even fiat currencies are the same. The issue with Bitcoin (and all other cryptos) is that they are just too volatile and enable people to make quick money. On top of that if you are large investor, you can manipulate the market for your benefit. Theses huge spikes in prices make people greedy so most of them are looking to invest and make a profit rather than buy BTC and start trading with it. On top of that, if you buy BTC with the idea of just pay for stuff, you are taking some considerable risk that this currency will actually decrease in price and you would be able to buy less than initially anticipated. Such people look for stability that the fiat currencies offer. For example, if something bad happens with a currency on the forex market, it does not crash 20-30% like crypto for a day, it simply declines by 2-3% at most, which makes the whole idea look more stable. There is no institution or anything that can really force a fiat currency to surge 20-30 or more percent a day or decline by that ammout.

Well, there are so many places worldwide where we can spent bitcoin online and also this list keep on increasing on daily basis. You can buy goods from bitcoin from selective online stores which offer bitcoin payments and also you can gamble, trade, invests or get paid in bitcoin for any services you provide etc.

What you all are telling is correct but their should be places to use bitcoin as fiat currency, their are very less places where you can use bitcoin like fiat currency. In my country cryptocurrency is not recommended to use and cryptocurrency exchanges are closed down. So now the only way to use bitcoin is to convert to fiat currency and use it or just use like investment tool so that in future if it gets legal can be used as fiat currency or get profit from longterm price increase and convert it to fiat currency.

The thing is, shops need to convert to fiat to buy from their suppliers.  The suppliers need fiat to buy from the manufacturers. 

so far, I only spend the bitcoin that I have by exchanging it. well, and where I exchange it is at a local exchanger. well, I did it at a number of trusted exchangers, and I don't think the number is up to 10.

I think the best place to spend your bitcoins or the other cryptocurrency is exchanger. We deposit or change it in the local exchanger.

Currently, In my country (Indonesia), cryptocurrency can be used to buy some good due to a prohibition from government. Therefore, I usually use bitcoin or the other crypto for buying the other crypto which has good value. After that, I change such cryptocurrency into fiat currency.

However, I have found the new one of good local exchanger in Indonesia. Such exchanger is called with Gopax Indonesia. This exchanger is originally from South Korea.
I think GOPAX has good decision for developing its business in Indonesia. GOPAX has already famous in South Korea and some countries. Back to topic again regarding the places for using bitcoins, Circumstance of Indonesia regulation is not friendly for us who trading cryptocurrency. Hopefully, Government of Indonesia can issue a new regulation for us to trading Cryptocurrency safely. And also, Government of Indonesia wants to change its policy for not prohibiting cryptocurrency to be used as a currency, which can be used for buying some goods.

     It's really great that bitcoin are very useful nowadays in many things. You don't need to cash out or exchange in fiat money before you can buy goods and other important materials we need.

In my country (ROMANIA) you can but with bitcoin whatever you want, starting with Food and finishing with Phone Credit. There are many ATM's where everyone can cash his bitcoins and bitcoin is accepted in many, many online and offline stores.

It might be great for some people but for me, I don't think it is great at all. There are a lot of places that are accepting Bitcoin but in our country, even though Bitcoin is not banned, actually it is legalized, there are not that much people that are using Bitcoin or other crypto currencies. They do know that cryptos existed but there are a lot of news about it and people are getting scammed because of it.

It really is a good sight to see, that so many stores still accept Bitcoin and many others are taking it on. I really do wish we could return to the early days, when the main focus was on transacting in Bitcoin and not being obsessed with its price.

Not all countries were able to spend bitcoin as above mentioned in this thread, but some of those points like using it on buying stuff like goods. In my country I was spending my bitcoin on paying on my debts like the electricity and internet bills. It provided me a better comfort and opportunity, that's why I was able to have more opportunities compared with traditional fiat money spending. Although I still needed fiat money to transact locally, but choosing bitcoin as digital form of payment I can guarantee it's definitely an awesome thing and wise choose to have so far.

Newegg has accepted bitcoin for the longest time and then they stopped for a while but they have accepted them again.
