Title: Why did so many cryptocurrencies crash the last week?
Post by: showbiz111 on March 05, 2018, 08:22:41 AM
Did you think  Cryptocurrencies are going through a healthy market correction after a historic bull trend or
Bitcoin is the market leader, it holds the majority of the entire crypto markets capital, (fluctuating between 40–60% usually). So when Bitcoin goes down, most coins go down with it??? ;)

From my experience, alts will go down when BTC go down. Because people split their portfolie into alts and BTC. So when they want to short BTC, then have to sell their alts first, which often gets valued in BTC.  And vice versa (sorry for bad english)

Arbitrary reasons probably, you never are going to pinpoint exactly why. Price is the toughest thing to figure out because it has so many variables, if I just said it was because of Bitcoin going up that would be naive imo. There is more at play here than just Bitcoin, there are a lot of powerful and influential people that I feel like are calling shots behind the scenes. Could be wrong, but thats how I view it currently.

While there is a relationship between bitcoin and alts, we hope that soon it will disappear and the alts will become independent of the movement of their father, then a prognosis is possible to catch up with him at a price.

Well some crypto get crash again not only because the BTC price get lower a little but I think there pre sale and quota investor didn't reach the target point so some of their coins price or value decrease again.

The crash happen because all crypto currencies already goes very high last year and now its time to set a normal price which will be new support for all marketcap. After consolidation done we will see all new time high but dont expect its done in one week. We probably will see multi year bearish untill btc reach its deep.

The reason is the market recieved bad press, mainly because of happenings in the US and Japan.

It started in the US, with the SEC saying platforms serving as venues for digital assets that are securities will need to register with the agency as a national exchange, or qualify for an exemption.

Japan’s Financial Services Agency ordered two exchanges to halt operations for a month and penalized four others yesterday.

This means the regulatories want to have oversight of the industry, and with these actions, caused the market to fall.
If the market falls, almost every coin's value will decrease.

Also, Bitcoin has the largest market cap, and represents the cryptomarket. If it faces criticism, it will go down, and so the value of other coins, as Bitcoin is pretty often used as an intermediary currency between exchanges. This means altcoin rates are rather fixed to BTC, than to fiats.

Bitcoin goes up, alts go down.

Bitcoin goes down, alts go down.

The alts as a collective will go up when BTC is consolidating or during certain BTC uptrends before they go down again due to selloffs for people to ride BTC.

It's a helluva market.

Most of the cryptocurrencies are decentralized so no one should control the crash it depends on the current news, supply and demands. So try to convey the proper explanation no one should understand your thoughts Bitcoin and altcoins all are same cryptocurrency once Bitcoin is raise automatically altcoins also raise in the market we only support the all cryptocurrencies so Bitcoin is pump again but it take some time.

Japanese government trying to regulate exchange platform because of dubious activities and attack against benance that is affecting crypto currencies this week. We may have more fall in days to come as governments has seen this as a way to scare big investors. Bitcoin has a lot of potential and can be of a great help to other cryptocurrencies and we should not be discouraged when we see this type of attack.

Well now BTC is falling down,  but alts are also in decrease!  There is no correlation,  crypto market is so crazy. I will better wait for a lower entry point,  something like 5000 for BTC and 400-500 for ETH is reasonable price

Crashing of some crypto coins are such a normal thing happened today. Some cryptocurrencies are just a failure and became a trash because of failure ICO and did not reach its target. Some also are did not worked out and no one invested on it and has a very cheap value or worst did not have a value at all.

Most exchanges use BTC as the intermediary currency. So BTC has influence on all Altcoins

Despite the problems of bitcoin, the idea of a global decentralized currency looks very attractive. Now, the exchange has attracted thousands of speculators, and this harms the image of technology. Some market participants are sure - sooner or later the bubble will crash. Others predict that by 2020, one bitcoin will cost more than $ 30,000.

Fear of regulation, rumors of Ethereum ASICs ... And the general crypto downtrend. When the price of bitcoin goes down, people panic sell their alt as a getaway to FIAT. Dropping the price of BTC further and starting a global panic on the market. Lots of mainstream investor entered in November / December of 2017 and they are not ready for the crypto swings.

As a result of recent scam projects, confidence in some crypto-currencies has declined and has entered the process of extinction. I think the most important feature of crypto-money, which earned even when the market showed a downward trend, is the trust in its projects.

Well correction always happen that's one of also the reasons why market crashed. Price last year too much pumped and most says manipulation existing in the market also with other news that keeps the price down. A lot of factors actually why it was happen, but I believe price could recover.

All alts are now dependent on bitcoin, on the one hand it's good that bitcoin can filter out unreliable coins in this way, on the other hand it's bad that no one can even catch up with it and become more valuable.

The crash happen because crypto world going too high in december and it will stabilize and reach real value now. And bitcoin will probably going down firther. And when bitcoin and ethereum going down another crypto will also goes down. Bitcoin as a gold in digital world. Then when it is goes down all crypto asset also goes down and lose againts fiat.

The price of bitcoin decreases, which causes decreases in other currencies. All cryptocurrencies are related and depend on the price of bitcoin. As soon as the btc begins to make up for losses, all coins will turn green.

This question is so blunt. You knew already the answer but you keep on asking. Isn't it obvious that panic selling really occur? Traders don't want anymore losses so they get rid of their precious investments to avoid being bankrupt. Now that you get, please stop asking nonsense question like this and make sure to post a much productive topic next time.

Most of the time yes that basically happens but sometimes it is not entirely because bitcoin dropped down as well. And sometimes it would be because most of the investors that have invested on these coins would sell most of their holdings that would lead to the drop down of the prices and would convert them to bitcoin and hold them.

I think not very affected the altcoins during the bitcoin is dump, I always looking the in the marketcap  not all coins are in dump some coins are in the good stable obviously its depend of the volume demand of the coins.
yes of course in times of the crisis need to hold your investment do not sell it during the price is in the lower, that's one thing need to understand the people always listening to the fuds they panicking and faster to sell their investment with out any learning.

In my observation, bitcoin will be the barometer of all crypto currency. When bitcoin will goes down, a big chances that most coins will goes down as well unless someone will pumps those altcoins.

all altcoin prices follow bitcoin conditions, even to be a bull market have to wait for healthy bitcoin, I think many factors make crypto value fall, such as high sales, many sellers panic so bitcoin fall uncontrolled, and affect the market.

right. But this is really a difficult problem. Because Bitcoin really does not relate to thousands of other altcoins on the market, they all fall by bitcoin. It seems like this is a characteristic of the Crypto market and we can not change it. We can only use it to make a profit in buying low and selling high.

Indeed, during the fall of bitcoin, many coins also fall. But absolutely not all. Rather, it is due to the fact that coins are bought with coins and vice versa. And after that, they prefer Fiat for bitcoins and some coins. But I'm afraid I will not continue this way, because the technology requires a change. In terms of performance, speed, reliability, etc. For example, the Kelvin Blockchain (https://medium.com/@kelvinchain/the-post-quantum-era-of-blockchain-todays-solutions-for-the-world-of-tomorrow-16bdd970f49a) project is based on quantum technologies, thereby providing a unique, innovative opportunity. This is a new stage of development.

yeah right ! a lot of issue in the crypto world thats why it is really makes those holders that is selling their coin also the bitcoin price also one of the reason why it is dumping. Though i noticed before that if the price of bitcoin is droping i saw the altcoins do the alternate , it is pumping not really big pump but we could really see green onces unlike this day which most of all is red. Hopefully that it would be okay next month though.
