Title: Internet and the rise of smart devices, have they really made our lives better?
Post by: chenbo*) on March 06, 2018, 04:56:55 AM
The internet is slowly encroaching into every aspect of our day to day lives. AI and smart devices seems to be where the people in tech wants us to go. With the adoption of these things, haven't we made our lives more complicated and harder instead? This clip, a part of the intro of the movie, The God's Must Be Crazy 1 sums it all up wonderfully: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qgs528eZXSs.

Yes indeed! They've made our lives easier and better. Smart devices like smartphones are very portable to carry along wherever you are going and can aid you to make calls to whoever you wish to contact provided you have his phone number. These same smart devices help us to find the locations to certain places we've never been to. Business transactions are made at the comfort of our homes by the help of these same smart devices. Unlike in the days of old, where people had to travel long distances in order to deliver a message , there was difficulty in finding locations to places around where one wishes to explore and also one needs to join long queues at the bank or any financial institution just to make a simple business transaction. With the inception of smart devices, life has been better!

This is the opposite of the function of Technology. Technology is the fruit of knowledge, Science and Math. It is made or invented for making our lives efficient and comfortable.

Well, that opening of the Movie has a point but it is also for the good since if there are no people that will be understanding the technologies today, people in the future will be having a hard time to use it and to create another one. We need to adapt to our environment because the environment will never adapt to us.

Our lives will inevitably be intertwined with smart technology, which will revolutionize the way that we learn.Engineers and doctors are also working on 3D printing a replica of a patient’s organ, allowing to surgeons to plan their surgeries better.
Whether through a phone call, text, email, social media or some other form of communication, we're always at the beck and call of those we know so long as we have a mobile device with us.
Our mobile devices can hold or connect to an endless amount of entertainment. Thanks to streaming audio, video, copious storage capacities.Social media can truly be amazing. I use it to connect with family across the country whom I'm not able to see regularly.

Technology makes our lives better and easier by making what is imposible for us before like chatting with our relatives in the other country and many other things that made our lives better, but this does'nt mean that we cant live without technology.
Technology for me is the best part of our generation, So love it and enjoy the inventions.

Yes, ofcourse. It made our lives easier and lighter. It actually made our duties easier and better. The communication is easier because we can keep intouch with our loved ones through internet. Also, transactions are faster through our technology. Even students and learners life has changed because of it. It is easier for students to gain more knowledge.

Yes, it makes our lives better but makes makes us die younger. With smart devices and machines makes our duties and word comfortable, faster and easier but because of these we forget exercise or exert effort that needs our body. These gadgets and machines makes us unhealthy, and we are prone to disease.

From the best things that these technologies gave us, the side effect is really bad. And it is really ironic if you will be thinking of it since the function of technologies is to make our life efficient and comfortable but these gadgets and machines have something that if we are always close to it, our body became more weaker and vulnerable to diseases

Well my answer is definitely a big YES ! internet and smart phones make our life easier and meaningful at  the same time ! Both make our lives truly easy--- easy to google everything we want to know ! In just one click away we can go to different places. We can easily get in touch with our loved-ones across the world in real-time! In emergency case we can contact significant others to reach for help in just a dial-away! So many things to mention about how these two really help us! Do you agrer with me?

A very good movie and a very good topic.
I think that the tool itself does not harm. But the problem is the use the people give to the tool.
In the case of the internet, this is terrible how the people are just looking, staring, becoming addicts to social media, and how it is changing the way the people used to engage. To me, we are living in a really concerning moment, where the new kind of self-estime is determined by the number: number of views, or clicks, numbers of smilies or likes from absolute strangers.
This has made the people get really concern about how are they being seen by others, even if they have never met this "other" in the real life.
Whatever that is going, doesn`t seem healthy to me.

Regarding the video, I`ve been always loved the intro of that film. Precisely, humankind thinks that environment should adapt to them. Anthropocentrism it is called, and this point of view has damaged enough the planet so far.

Better life is very subjective and relative term. Internet and smart devices definitely have their benefits and helps in improving our lives but at the same time internet and smart devices are also creating many problems in our lives such as stress due to  information overload and continuous information supply putting pressure on individuals to work or be active longer hours and shorter sleep time resulting into many health problems.

I think the Internet has brought us many convenient aspects, such as shopping, ordering, etc., and the Internet allows us to see more novel things!
