Title: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Post by: dre2ooo on March 07, 2018, 02:20:53 AM I have searched extensively and not found the answer to my problem.
My new machine has: Mobo: Asus TUF Z270 Mark 2 with updated current BIOS (updated via the BIOS online updater feature). CPU: Intel gen7 Pentium PSU: EVGA 1000w G2 Ram: 1 stick of DD4 4GB Crucial Balistix HDD: 80GB SSD OS: Xubuntu 16.04 Kernel: 4.13.0.36 (also tried rolling back to 4.8.0 to see if it helped, but it didn't help) AMD Driver: AMD Blockchain Drivers Beta 17.40-438984 So, I assembled this computer, installed Linux. Upgraded the distro, packages, etc..., installed AMD blockchain drivers, ROMCL, and Claymore's Dual ETH/Decred miner ver 11.2. In the BIOS I disabled the internal graphics, HD audio, USB 3.1 and turned down all PCIe lane speeds to Gen2 (in anticipation of adding more cards later). I have a good PowerColor RX570 pulled from an Asus Z170-AR rig mining at 24-25MHs. I put this same PowerColor RX570 into my newly built machine for a test run. With only this one GPU inserted into the main 16x PCIe slot without any riser, I cannot get anymore than 17MH/s from it. I put the card into another miner and it runs at 24-25MH/s. I put the card back into this TUF Z270 rig and it runs at 16-17MH/s. I have built several miners using the Z170-AR boards and can reliably get rigs of 6x570s running at 24-25MH each using this procedure. What I am missing with this Z270 setup? I would have loved to have kept using the Z170-ARs, but they are no longer being made and obviously don't support the new Intel generation. Any help is greatly appreciated! I'll also try setting the M.2 setting to PCIe (even though I'm not using M.2 at all) and X2 instead of X4 as I saw in a youtube video. With only one card, I'll also disable 4G encoding.
Title: Re: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Post by: RYXES on March 07, 2018, 01:36:35 PM I think it is because your GPU needs a powered riser rather than plugging it directly into the motherboard.
It needs to be powered at the top of the GPU and the bottom in the riser. Post by: dre2ooo on March 07, 2018, 04:34:55 PM I have it on a powered riser now, still no luck :(.
Anyone else out there using this board? I have 12 rigs of 6 cards each running flawlessly on Z170-AR boards and this fucking Z270 is causing me to pull my hair out! Have you tried to use your graphics card as output display while mining? or maybe what you are saying means you are using that card as output display before. On my windows rig, it would be solving dropped hashrate problem for AMD cards. Title: Re: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Mobo is a GA H270-HD3. Ironically, when I try to use a riser it doesn't identify the GPU. Hash rate is very stable in this config. Title: Re: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Post by: m.vina on March 08, 2018, 01:18:11 AM Thats weird. Have you considered using Windows instead of Xubuntu?
I think everyone would have an easier time troubleshooting the most commonly used mining platform. Title: Re: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Post by: dre2ooo on March 08, 2018, 04:58:22 AM OKAY. Tried a fresh reformat and it didn't work. However, I then rolled back the kernel to 4.4 and uninstalled, then re-installed the AMD drivers. This seems to have solved it.
Doing this, I was able to get the card running at 23.4MH/s which is acceptable. I have 4 cards on risers now running all at 23-24MH/s. Tomorrow, I'll try adding a 5th and then 6th card and see if I can get a reliable 6x570 setup on this new chipset. Thanks for all the replies guys! Good card like your can push around 30 mh.. which is about 15% higher then your results Title: Re: Help with Low Hashrates on Z270 system please! Post by: dre2ooo on March 11, 2018, 09:24:49 PM Yes that is true, but then the wattage would be too high. I have 6 miners with 6 cards each on a 16amp circuit. With everything running, I'm using about 5,100 watts at 14.17 amps. Thus I have less than just 2 amps left before the circuit trips so I do not want to push harder.
