Title: Linux Mining OS options
Post by: syrius on March 07, 2018, 06:12:41 AM
Hi guys,

I am looking for a complete list of all Linux mining OS in order to discover what would be the best option for me based on their features, so far here's the OS I've found yet;

1) EthOS
2) HiveOS
3) nvOC/rxOC OS
4) PiMP OS

Is there any other Linux OS?

Thanks.

I pretty much only heard of those. HiveOS is really picking up fast and has very active development.

I was looking at the same but had nothing but issues with HiveOS after hearing so many good things. Constantly crashed for me when trying to make changes to anything which was extremely annoying. I need wifi so that was my only option or I would have went SMOS for the small fee.  Ended up going free windows to make my life easier and maintain wifi like my other rigs.  I think HiveOS could be a great OS but still needs some work to simplify the interface and getting set up.

I was running on Ubuntu for a few months now with all my own scripts for monitoring, OC, etc.  Has been very stable for me but I do not have the time to keep up with updating miners and building out the web interface I started.  I decided this weekend to try out HiveOS and extremely happy with it.  Switched my three rigs over in just a couple hours.

First 24 hours it was crashing often on 2 of my rigs with the same overclock settings I used on my Ubuntu setup but I just backed off the settings a bit and been very stable now for a few days.

I would highly recommend PiMP (Portable Instant Mining Platform) OS.

www.getpimp.org

I currently run over 600 machines with this linux based mining OS and have found it is the most flexible with far and away the best support team of any mining OS. It is also the only software that i have found that supports mixed brand rigs out of the box.

Thank you, fanatic26! Yes, as the original OS by miners for miners, we have seen a lot of people inspired to try making their own. We hope that these great developers can make their way to pimp discord and talk to us about making great tools that everyone can use!

We are really excited designing the new generation of pimp and miner.farm and can't wait to start showing off some upcoming features... So keep an eye here and also on our own forum.getpimp.org forum!

Not free, you pay for it with headaches and downtime  ;D

Stock Ubuntu + ansible-playbook (http://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/playbooks_intro.html). Then have the rigs pointed at miningrigrentals.com as a free hosted proxy service with backup pool support, easy pool switching and overview dashboard.

I'm not sure what features you are looking for in the mining OS, but you can take a look at minerstat's latest mining OS (https://minerstat.com/software/mining-os) (msOS) and dashboard features (https://minerstat.com/features).

minerstat is since January 2017

Is your ansible playbook public? If so, it would be great to see it.

YES downtime by silly noobs XD can't hear it anymore, stupid windows noob kids XD

Windows 10 is best mining OS Platform for new and advanced users. All other Linux OS or so are for kids who donīt unterstand mining. Because it is plug and play.

Windows 10 is ready in 10min and can run over month or years without downtimes and it is for free.
