It's possible the transmitter is just splattering all over the band, or what some call desense. If a transmitter is close enough to the receiver, it doesn't matter what freq the transmitter is on, the receiver will be overpowered by the signal strength.

Is the transistor a FET ? those are a bit difficult to debug. what voltage are you supplying? how did u tune the output frequency? Sounds like a cold or dry joint to me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cold_solder_joint2.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soldering#Soldering_defects Fairly easy to resolve, just see if you can spot the problem joint and re-solder it.
