Title: Can I shut down Electrum immediately after clicking the Send button?
Post by: tUnes3 on March 08, 2018, 08:36:44 AM
I just wish to learn the proper way of using Electrum.

After clicking the Send button, can I quit Electrum and power off my machine? Or do I have to wait for at least one to two confirmations to show up before I can quit Electrum and switch off my machine?

Yes, you can quit "Electrum" and turn off the computer after successfully sending a transactions (after the pop up message that confirms that action).

You don't have to wait until it got at least 1 confirmation, as soon as your transaction has been broadcast to the network and you have enough fees for the transaction then its fine, unless if you have too low fees because you have to open your electrum again then use the RBF feature.

How do I know if I have set my fees to be too low?

unless if you have too low fees because you have to open your electrum again then use the RBF feature.

If I enable the RBF feature, does Electrum adjust the fees for me or do I have to input my fee manually?

Here's average Bitcoin's transaction fee
https://bitcoinfees.info/
Electrum has a slider that sets how long do you want to wait for your transaction to confirm, the more right the slider goes the faster the transaction will receive confirmation, and vice versa.

RBF (Replace By Fee) is a feature used if your transaction fee are too low.
Essentially it will use some of the coins that you have sent as transaction fee.

If you want to set fee Manually, electrum has that feature on the options :)

I am using version 3.1.0 and I am unable to locate the slider that you mentioned. The only slider that I see is under Send --> Fee. It is currently showing 2 sat/byte. If I move it to the extreme left, it shows 1 sat/byte. Is this the slider that you are referring to?

No, I cannot afford to have Electrum deduct transaction fees from the coins that I send simply because it means the recipient - usually a vendor - will not receive full payment.

Yes most likely.

The amount you originally sent won't change so the receiver will still receive it in full. I suggest reading this: CLICK ME (https://blog.bitmain.com/en/stuck-unconfirmed-bitcoin-transaction-may-help-next-time/) (Ctrl+F --> "Opt-in Replace-by-fee")

Please note that if your transaction is not flagged as "replaceable" you will not be able to use this feature. You can check it here: https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC

If you transaction the bitcoin with the required fees you no need to worry about the confirmation. There is no connection between the wallet and confirmation for the transaction.
When you added required fees it will atleast go through the 2 blocks and transaction will be confirmed buddy.
No need to worry and you can proceed to close the wallet or shut down the PC.

Yes, you can quit it anytime as long you can able to see the transaction hash being prompt out. Lets say when making transfers electrum do ask you for password and after you enter theres a prompt then you click ok and quit electrum without any doubts since the transaction is already being broadcasted to the network then it cant really be reversed and receiver can received exactly on what you have sent.

90% of what you posted has been mentioned already above, there's no need to repeat it.

False, unless a transaction doesn't have at least 1-3 confirmation then the transaction can be reverse.

That's why OP should enable this feature before sending coins by going to Tools > Fees > Propose Replace-By-Fee and select always.
