Title: PNB looks into use of bitcoin!
Post by: jonas5222000 on March 10, 2018, 02:42:13 AM
TOP official of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) vows to study bitcoin amid Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) accepting stance on cryptocurrencies. PNB chair Flor Gozon Tarriela said they are looking at bitcoin and blockchain technology very cautiously but stressed the bank is not into it yet. “PNB will closely study the disruptions going on in the financial sector. We want to know more about the trends. We want to be aware of what is happening. But as to our plans to venture, we are not into it yet,” said Tarriela, adding that they are in the process of studying its dynamics and its possible effects to the banking business. A bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. While it recognized the potential benefits of virtual currencies as it facilitate the movement of funds at a much faster, cheaper, and convenient way, the BSP is equally cautious of the potential risks including illicit activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

It has advised the public that they have to be conscious of the opaqueness of transactions involving bitcoins. To minimize risks, the BSP encouraged existing and prospective virtual currency users to deal only with BSP-registered virtual currency exchanges and maintain only a sufficient amount of virtual currency enough to address transaction requirements. BSP warned that virtual currency users should properly secure their virtual currency holdings and observe security tips to protect the confidentiality and integrity of personal information and transaction details. “The BSP still has to issue regulations on this virtual currencies. But, we, in the banking industry advocate the know-your-customer first,” said Tarriela. PNB’s thrust this year is to go digital. Tarriela said they have launched mobile banking apps to cater to the needs of the tech-savvy market. “The way to go, really, is digital,” she said, adding that this will also help them reach out to the unbanked population.

Sooner or later magiging in - demand na dito satin ang mga block chain specialist and developers.

We are lucky.  ;D

Siguro kung hindi bitcoin, it will be either Ethereum or maybe Waves or Ripple.
Pero kung hindi yun bitcoin, sigurado ETH yun since it is the major platform of many altcoins in circulation.

Narinig ko na din to and I think na this would be a good thing for all of us. Sana, let's just cross our fingers for this one. And I am so happy na kilala na ang btc sa pilpinas talaga.

Just, because BSP, SEC and banks can no longer control the spread and increase of cryptocurrency in our country. They had also checked how other countries are using crypto such as Japan, Mexico and other countries. Thanks to their collaboration in learning to integrate with bitcoin and blockchain technology.  On the other hand, blockchain technology can support the security level of banks in using online transaction.

Yung ripple ang possible na pwede nilang iintegrate sa banking nila since its a permissioned blockchain.

It won't be long that BSP and the gobernment will be embrassing bitcoin or cryptocurrency now. Even Manny Pacquiao and other know artists locally have ventured bitcoins and investing in it and who knows who in the future. Bitcoin value might be not that stable but com'on this is actually really helpful OFWs to send money with lesser fees and no more waiting in the line and fill up forms to claim their remittances to their loved ones its like an ele tronic wallet that you can have it scanned same as how prepaid cards works gcash paymaya paylpal a d other known electronic wallet currently. As long as you have the internet connection everythi g goes smoothly, just hoped that this won'tbe used for illegal stuffs like what had happened in China.

Maybe its about time they accept the usage of cryptocurrency. Sooner or later matatanggap na rin worldwide and crypto so instead of finding faults, they should find ways on how to properly regulate it para at least hindi naman tayo mahuhuli sa ibang bansa.

It takes time talaga at magiging worth it din ang pag support ng mgaraming tao sa bitcoin community and crypto world.

It will be great if all the banks will look in to adding cryptocurrency in the system. They can't control now the flow of it na. And it can affect the value of the currency. I tried to withdraw eth in coins.ph, there is a big amount deducted to your money and you need also to pay for the padala fee if you use cebuana. But upon checking in coin.ph, BPI is accepting a withdrawal but not sure if the fee is smaller or bigger. Never tested pa eh.

There are so many things we cannot control or the Government cannot control rather like BTC being used in buying/selling of probihited drugs, money laudering and other activities that is why karamihan pa rin na mga bansa ay anti sa cryptocurrency.

Sana nga pero I'm still pessimistic about this, crypto currency is a big threat in stock exchange and as well as in banks kasi once we adopt this crypto thing mababawasan na ang paggamit ng banks at pag invest sa stock exchange which is malaking epekto sa ating ekonomiya. This is why government wants to ban it but the least that they can do is to regulate. Yeah sana makita ng government what we perceive in crypto currency and stop the ban order.

Kung napansin ninyo ang coins.ph together with the other remittances center in Philippines ay may limit ang withdrawals at deposits it's because nagfollow sila sa rules and regulations ng AMLA sa Pilipinas.

Karagdagan; PNB is one of the most trusted government bank in the Philippines, so masaya ako at tuluyan na nilang tinanggap ang crypto currencies sa ating bansa.

Sooner or later magiging in - demand na dito satin ang mga block chain specialist and developers.

We are lucky.  ;D

I agree.

After uninon banks pnb and even banko sentral then all Banks Will accept btc as a kind of currency this will  effect the price to rise up
Crypto will be partners of all banks soon cause they don't have  choice but to collaborate

Sa kabilang banda, it is a possibility if majority ng banks ay nagaaccept na ng transactions via the use of cryptocurrencies.

I guess so they so bright opportunity if they adopt bitcoin and other major crypto currency it can boost their income since more and more people sre engage in crypto they have no choice but to go to the flow of technology evolvement cause if they don't do this they will left behind.  and money remittance center susch as cebuana will be the one who get more benefit.

It is indeed good to hear that banks like PNB are seeing the future in digital currencies.  Studying it is a great step meaning they are already preparing themselves into it. It will be an advantage since when they engage themselves with these, the demand on bitcoin will increase and so its value.  Other banks will consider this as well, and many trusted companies will be expected to invests more  .

This is one step closer para maging legal na ang bitcoin sa bansa natin, hindi lang dito sa bansa natin at tuluyan ng maging aware ang mga tao na hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa din alam kung ano ba tong mundo ng cryptocurrency at bakit nagiging in demand siya, in just a year one bank will eventually adapt the usage of having bitcoin as their transaction.

Sa totoo lang, ripple talaga ang pinaka suitable pagdating sa crypto-banking; marami lang talagang haters since centralized to.

Eos is out of the question... hindi pa tested ang technology na ito (in the sense na nag-ooperate na sya sa scale ng bitcoin sa dami ng transactions per second) at sa point na to, lahat ng claims tungkol dito kasama ang price, use case, etc., ay pawang mga spekulasyon lamang.

Sa ngayon daw, wala silang plano (2019) na ipasok iyan as part of their system.

Sinabi rin ng SEC thru Commissioner Emilio Aquino, "We need to act because initial coin offerings (ICOs) are sprouting especially in 2017. We want to come up with our own set of regulations."  (source:  http://news.abs-cbn.com/business/01/29/18/philippines-to-develop-rules-on-cryptocurrency-trading) . So, protection and for our good din ang ginagawa ng BSP sa ngayon.

After uninon banks pnb and even banko sentral then all Banks Will accept btc as a kind of currency this will  effect the price to rise up
Crypto will be partners of all banks soon cause they don't have  choice but to collaborate

Once Bitcoin or other crypto coins enter into Banks and if its evaluation is good or excellent, it will not be far for other banks to accepts cryto currencies. And PNB is one of the biggest and stable bank in the Philippines. when that happens it will be the penetration of digital money into different countries not only banks but in big companies and establishments.

This will be a good move to banks and the government as well as long there is a concrete regulation on how bitcoin may use to avoid for the money launderers to use bitcoin to hide their stolen wealth we are in the digital age already and bitcoin as a digital currency may a good alternative for fiat as medium of payment

It was already speculated na posibleng mangyari ang bagay na yan dahil makikita nila talaga ang demands sa bitcoin, biruin mo we are transacting more than $600M transactions every month sa coins.ph sa pagbbuy and sell, so if sa bank yon mas lalaki ang posibilidad na lumaki lalo ang demand so we should take this chance as an advantage, just hoping this year maging  okay tayo sa PNB para other banks will follow.

It's a good news then, pag nangyari ito mas madali na ang transaction no need to convert our coins into our fiat but we can use it directly. Lalo na kung may mga accts tayo to a certain bank and if we have credit card we can pay through our coins less hassle.

Ang PNB ay mayroong remittances sa buong mundo like US, Canada and others. I think ang reason behind this move ay interesado sila sa kikitain nila through remittances.

Kasi ang Bitcoin ay isang digital asset o cyptocurrency... how about bdo, being the "number one bank"?  this is good news about pnb, to think na parang traditional bank siya.  sana we also hear about other banks looking into the crypto potential for the philippine market.

Sana, let's just cross our fingers for this one.

Cryptocurrency is not just a mainstream but also considered as a necessity in this digital world. People look for convenience in all their ways especially in payment and other financial transactions. It is a good news that PNB is eyeing this system, this opens diversity to all financial institutions in expediting financial processes and transactions. Having said, this idea needs a lot of considerations especially security. How secured engaging to cryptocurrency? Big financial instituion such this can fund and sustain projects for building security system for bitcoin users. Yes, it is possible. They can create security systems. They can create a system by controlling enouigh bitcoins for users, the circulatory system and other security measures. If these are done, I believe that this will open the gate for everyone to invest in our country.

Maybe its about time they accept the usage of cryptocurrency. Sooner or later matatanggap na rin worldwide and crypto so instead of finding faults, they should find ways on how to properly regulate it para at least hindi naman tayo mahuhuli sa ibang bansa.

P300M Monthly Remittances to the Philippines are Done Through Bitcoin (https://www.unbox.ph/editorials/p300m-monthly-remittances-to-the-philippines-are-done-through-bitcoin/)

Quote
A growing number of the 10M Filipinos overseas are starting to discover the benefit of remitting money back to the Philippines via cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. According to the Bangko Sentral, they estimate that over P300M monthly of the remittances to the Philippines are coming through this channel. That’s approximately three times the volume seen last year.

Why is it gaining traction? It’s arguably a cheaper and faster way to move cash. If you try the typical services like Western Union, an overseas Filipino will have to pay a transaction fee of $11. If they want to transfer via bank through Western Union the fees are lower but they will have to wait for 6 business days before it gets credited to the account of their family back home. This is a strong use case scenario for cryptocurrency here in the Philippines.

“It’s like any other monetary instrument [and even] an investment instrument. There are risks but essentially, it can be managed. If you want something that is fast, near real-time and convenient then there’s the benefit of using virtual currencies like bitcoin.” – BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla

Darating kasi ang point na we will be living in a cashless society. Kaya using digital or cryptocurrencies will become a must.

Sooner or later magiging in - demand na dito satin ang mga block chain specialist and developers.

We are lucky.  ;D

That sounds nice. But how about the taxation? What will the banks do about that? Bitcoin was supposed to be government and tax free to it's core..

Right now only Unionbank of the Philippines and Philippine National Bank are the only banks that are considering to review and observe Bitcoin and blockchain technology. That is already good news if you are going to take note about the things happening in our country in relation to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency acceptance. It is just a matter of time before this can be accepted nationwide and we pioneers as long as we do it right, might become successful in cryptocurrencies.

This looks like when they try to unify a lot of bank commerce to establish partnerships with bitcoin. With this, bitcoin could be very dependent in the banks for local transactions and their will be faster connections.

This is nice! I heard UnionBank announced that it would offer the country’s first blockchain payment system for businesses.

If never nga na mangyari yan, there are two faces for this issue.

This is another hope for us. Atleast bitcoin is continually proven legit because it is being accepted by most of the known banks in the country. Maybe sooner or later bitcoin will already be accepted by all and that could be the greatest accomplishment of it.
