Title: [Gauging Intrest] Custom Steambox/PC Building Service Post by: termhn on October 12, 2013, 09:05:27 PM Hello everyone,
With Valve recently announcing the Steam Box (they are calling it Steam Machines), there are a few interesting things that have come to our attention. First, they are releasing Steam OS to be installed on any computer. This means that you can build a custom "steam box," install Steam OS, and bang presto! Steam Box! You can check out all the details of the announcement here: Steam Machines: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamMachines/ Steam OS: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/ Steam Controller: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamController/ With this in mind, it is very probable that building a steam box for yourself will deliver a much higher price/performance ratio, as well as greater customization options, than buying one from a manufacturer, just as with desktop computers. Now, there are people who would like this higher price/performance and customization, but aren't confident enough with handling the expensive components. That's where I come in. What I would be offering are a few different "preset" levels (say about $350, $650, $950, this could change based on further details as they continue to release them), of steam boxes that I will build and ship to you for bitcoin. In addition, for a little bit extra we can customize it to your own liking. So, who would be interested in this? Anyway, this sounds like a nice idea :) but would it not be better to wait and see what their preset modules are before offering a custom build? This is just to see who might want one if it did happen. Couldn't really do it unless I had at least a few people who wanted one.Anyway, this sounds like a nice idea :) but would it not be better to wait and see what their preset modules are before offering a custom build? |
