Why not just regrease the bearings? i ahve already done it on my 5850 - works a treat and i also replaced the heatsink paste and teh card runs lovely and cool in comparison ;) (use grease rather than oil as it should last longer)

Maybe there's too much dust in the bearing and it squeaks because it's dry already. Try adding oil and then grease on top.  :D

I have a FirstD FD9238U12D 12v 1.2AMP fan with newer AMD RADEON logo on the front, works fine in any reference radeon 5k/6k/7k series card with blower style fans. The fan itself works 100%, was bought from a chinese ebay seller for the purpose of replacing broken fans of my own, but never needed to use it. I plugged it into a 12v power supply, works fine.

It appears that one of the wires was pulled loose from the fan's PCB and resoldered back in place at one point, maybe due to haphazard storage, and a nick in the blue PWM wire's insulation, but I can cover that up with some black wire heat shrink.

Can do probably 12 bucks, or equivalent on in BTC according to preev.com, shipped via first class with tracking in USA. International will be on your dollar.

Best to just replace. I've had some of my cards get ruined because the fans just stop spinning completely.

I do have a lot of used and damaged 5970's if your interested. The fans a pretty cheap part of the card though.

i dont think greasing and oiling them will do much as the fan has a ton of play in it. like if i hold the fan i can gently pull on it and it will come almost right off. if i was to give a bit of a tug on it im sure it would come right off. when i push down on it it doesnt go down any but will pull up about 4mm's or so
