I'm in the States.

I'd be happy to start one here, but I don't have any credibility on this forum, as I just joined. I hope someone with experience and credibility here is interested in this.

I want to buy but considering below factors:-

It only mine cryptonight and a dangerous precedent was set by Bitmain followed by Halong miner

And we remember what happened with X11 when Bitmain unleashed almost double capacity miner followed by Innosillicon

For buying argument:  I tell myself to buy with hope that Bitmain etc won't launch more powerful miner

For not buying argument:

  • Its only 2 algorithms (effectively one as only AEON is on second algorithm)
  • 20Kh is huge hash rate and currently shown earnings are expected reduce by 50% atleast.
    • It does not support 5 to 7 algorithms like its always with Baikal , take example of Giant B, after mega miner release of Decred by Halong its only gonna profitable to mine coins such as Lbry on Giant B

So if Baikal announce it will add more algorithms in this device then i could consider buying, yet i am confused and not taken a final decision.

    Thanks

isn't cryptonight memory intensive, weren't asic hard to build for memory intensive algo?

There is something called discrete "SRAM" ... SRAM is fast but expensive , but 2MB per instance is not that big ...

Monero has an upcoming hardfork to prevent asics.  I don't know all of the details but its my understanding that they will be changing the algo every so often to keep out asics.

Yup, I know about that. What I mean is, why Baikal dont know about this and change it in very last minutes? Didn't they know it coming?  ???

I have a feeling that Baikal has known about this all along and they've tried to keep their ASICs as under-wraps as possible so that they could profit from them by mining themselves. Just look at the Monero difficulty over the past few months... it rises constantly regardless of price.

I'd originally ascribed it to massive botnets coming online... but this might be the real reason.

Back to your point... now that the Monero hard fork is scheduled and impending, Baikal is trying to dump these ASICs for good money. I for one am not going to bail them out. Shipping 7 days from order? Strange... every other ASIC takes forever to ship... must have a good quantity on hand ready to go. Sitting idle? I don't think so.

Not to mention the fact that Cryptonight was specifically engineered not only to resist ASICs, but also GPUs from completely overwhelming the hashrate by focusing on the strength of modern CPUs... random access of L3 cache.

Yet here were are. Perhaps I should start listening to Metroid... guess I'm just biased because I'm holding out hope for all these Vega's I haven't dumped yet!

Well there are people that actually cannot even get one because of the MOQ, if they're willing to buy it there's nothing wrong with that.

Hi guys.  Super noob here.  I just created this account for the sole purpose of replying to this.  I am interested in one or two of these at a min.  So, any group buys going to the US, I'm in.  I can pay via crypto, paypal or old fashioned credit cards (what???).

Also, I have been stalking on here for years just reading.  I love the community aspect of places like this.  Everyone who contributes to topics, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.  I cannot begin to tell you the amount of times you guys have bailed me out of stuff.

Oh, and I'm kinda salty they have an asic cryptonight miner now.  I have lots of rigs, a few with old school cards like R9s, R7s, Rx 460 2gbs, Rx 550/560 2gbs, etc.  So, if those cards are even more obsolete this kinda blows.

But, damn that's a decent hash for not a lot of watts!

Cheers!

EDIT- No offense to blockhunter, anyone want to do this where we can pay a bit less than a grand more than what manufacturer would charge?

no offense taken but if you read through our last group buy and see it can be worth the extra coin due to the fact that others will offer you a solid deal but don’t deliver on their promises and loose their money. We are a business and have staff and it cost money and time to organize these buys. You can read our last success group buy here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2603155.msg26488907#msg26488907
Something to consider read the thread. Especially those who were scammed I wish you luck in whatever you choose.

Its being sold for $3600 then you are selling it in your group buy for $4300? Lol.

Why would anyone in their right mind join your group buy?

The whole point of a group buy is to get the items cheaper.
I'd just buy it on my own if a greedy middleman will join in the cut. YOU sir are what BLOCKCHAIN tech is trying to phase out. No to greedy f-ing middlemen.

Besides, its not like buying it with you adds any value. The shipping/delays/etc risk is still there.

$21,600 everyone doesn’t have to make a purchase from them directly That’s why we offer our services. We have a company that doesn’t operate to sell you a product Cheeper than the manufacturer. I understand not everyone gets it. I do wish you the best of luck tho.

if there would be a lot of these asics, and they will kill cryptonight's coins, then I guess it would be very cheap to buy ryptonight from nicehash and mine some fresh or old coins with it, when there is no miners or diff are low.. and if sell those mined coins on pumps, there could be very good money in that...
will se how it goes.. but that is also means that buying good ryzen cpu is useless now..

This is basically worthless hardware since monero will be hardforking away from cryptonote. Lol @ these guys desperately trying to push that crap on to others since they probably ordered before the announcement and now have a major case of buyers remorse.

I wouldn't say it's worthless. There are tens of CryptoNight coins out there. Sure, maybe 1/3 will switch to CryptoNightV7 or some other CryptoNote-compatible hashing algorithm, but the rest won't. This might just make bytecoin climb higher on CoinMarketCap than monero as we have already witnessed last year and become the king of CryptoNote once again.

Monero makes up around 90% of total cryptonote based coins market cap. Without it, there won't be nearly enough mining budget left between them for this asic to ever earn itself back.

Also, having asics for your coin does nothing for the coin value, its completely irrelevant how many hashes per second is in your network. Its distribution and share of total potential mining power that matters and ASICs only make it worse. Worthless.

Remember guys, the main proposal of cryptos in general is Decentralization

Asics and big farms are total against Decentralization, we are losing focus here, we can say NO to every Asic and DO NOT BUY these craps

BE CAREFUL, this is not good for Cryptonight coins

What about BTC network ? why they don't fork it also to be again GPU friendly ? It's exactly the same logic ,,, so answer
Worthless ? So BTC mining is worthless this is what you want to say ?

Have you been living under a rock? Didn't you see what happened just a few months ago when devs and mining farms fought over segwit?

The miners won, devs have never been in control of bitcoin. If they can't even push through something slightly damaging to the miners like a proper implementation of segwit instead of this half-assed shit, how do you imagine they would switch it to a GPU algorithm?

It's exactly the same logic ,,, so answer

its not even close and you have no clue wtf you're talking about

Worthless ? So BTC mining is worthless this is what you want to say ?

you need to get your head checked. What are bitcoin ASIC's worth if 90% of SHA-256 mineable coins disappeared? worthless.

Hey guys I purchased 6 of these. I sold 1 so far and have 5 left.

They will be arriving on Wednesday and will not be removed from the manufacturers packaging. Brand new.

I am trying to sell them AT COST, I am not looking for a profit here.

I am attempting to sell another 4 and keep 1 for myself.

I will accept payment via Paypal, Bitcoin, Check or cash(if local, I am located in NJ).

The final cost was $21905 divided by 6 units = $3650 each.

The final cost would be $3650 + shipping.

If anyone is interested please feel free to contact me.

I can provide proof of purchase, or anything else you require.

Thanks!
