Title: Mailru enables bitcoin payments
Post by: coinkeke on March 12, 2018, 04:36:41 PM
One of the biggest Russian IT holdings, Mail.Ru Group, is allowing advertisers and the owners of advertising sites to pay and be paid with cryptocurrencies on the advertisement platform myTarget.

Mail.Ru Group is the worldwide technology company which unites three big social networks Vkontakte, Odnoklassniki and My World; ICQ messenger; mobile ads service Youla; popular online games Warface, Allods Online, Armored Warfare and Skyforge; food delivery platform Delivery Club; and ridesharing service Beepcar.

The myTarget platform helps advertising parties purchase and place ads on Mail.Ru properties. It also allows owners of sites to earn money by having ads displayed on their pages.

Using BitPay, bitcoin and bitcoin cash can be used to pay on Mail.Ru as well as on social networks Odnoklassniki and Vkontakte. Odnoklassniki is one of the oldest social networks in Eastern Europe with more than 45 million users. It is especially popular among 30 to 55 year olds. Vkontakte, “The Russian Facebook,” is the most popular social network in Europe with more than 80 million active users and about 460 million registered users. It’s translated into 90 languages but is most popular among Russian-speaking users.

Dmitry Sergeev, the first deputy chief director of Mail.Ru Group said in a statement: “We tend to give our clients maximum opportunities for their business development. The myTarget platform will become a starting point for the ecosystem, which will develop in the future and include other products of Mail.Ru Group, including gaming projects.”

It is good for Russian people that they can use crypto in their daily marketing payments. I hope Mail.ru also integrates Waves coin.

It's a good move but let's see how long it lasts, it will only last if they're happy with the results and that means people need to actually be spending bitcoin. It seems with a lot of places that start to offer bitcoin payments they do not get the desired results and it's not worthwhile for them to maintain it.

I read recently that Russia was going to legalize cryptocurrencies and that Putin had ordered the implementation of cryptocurrencies in their country. This is just the starting I guess.

I heard that Russia wants to impose criminal penalties for use of cryptocurrencies. As it is correlated with the actions of mail.ru? I do not pay attention to what is happening in Russia. It all depends on the mood of their leader. A country cannot be predicted and it can not exert any influence on world order.

This is a huge company in Russia and good sign that crypto is being accepted there. There economy is ok but not great so it's a good place to use crypto. Lots of brilliant developers are from Russia so I would be surprised if they banned it, in the new digital economy Russia could be dominant one day.

I don't understand how mail.ru can accept cryptocurrency, if the Central Bank of Russia doesn't officially recognized cryptocurrency :-\.

Could we please have a source on this? I'm unsure of the reliability with Russia sources and would appreciate anyone sharing the more accurate sites. No mention elsewhere on the forum to my knowledge though and I believe something like this would be well discussed.

I haven't looked into it but maybe mail.ru isn't even located in Russia.

Without any doubts the adoption of Bitcoin is a great thing, especially if they will enable bitcoin ad payments on all their social networks. From what I know Mailru is a monopolist in ru social medias (they literally own all of the ones that were established in Russia) that are more popular than fb in that region. They are doin absolutely opposite things to what FB and twitter do. The only misunderstanding is that I always hear very contradictory information from Russia. At one time they claim that Cryptos will be banned and all BTC users will be jailed but then they are adopting it. At least it doesnt create the new waves of FUD.

Google shows a lot of sources, I am not sure which one you consider as reliable, so I am not posting them here. This topic was also discussed in russian local.

Easy. As far as I know Mail.Ru Group collaborates with BitPay which accepts cryptocurrencies and converts them to fiat, probably BitPay located outside of Russia. Russian online exchanges, for instance, located outside of Russia but deal with russians.
I am reading about Delivery Club for first time here, I want it to accept crypto this would be great

More good news of adoption  :) Hopefully more and more will follow soon as they realize the potential and value of bitcoin acceptance to their businesses.
