Title: UK Gambling licence needed for dice game?
Post by: monsterer on October 15, 2013, 08:40:10 PM
Hi guys,

Trying to work out if you need a licence to run a bitcoin dice game in the UK. Apparently, the gambling commission says that bitcoin does fall under the ir remit despite not being a currency, being 'moneys worth'.

Looking at the gambling commission's site, it says you don't need a licence if all your equipment is based in the EU:

http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/gambling_sectors/remote_eg_online_gambling/getting_a_licence-_what_you_ne/do_i_need_a_licence.aspx

So the question is, would just getting an EU based server mean you don't need a licence?

Anyone looked into this?

Cheers, Paul.

You sould get an advise from a lawyer or something. Consider it part of your investment...

Ok, here is a little clarity specifically about the 'gambling equipment' being located outside the UK: you still need a gambling licence in whichever location the equipment is located.
