Title: 5850 crossfire PSU recommendation Post by: edtks86 on July 23, 2011, 03:48:02 PM I currently got a single 5850 card powered by a 550W 80plus certified PSU. I'm planning on getting another 5850 and was wondering if this PSU is enough to power another card.

Title: Re: 5850 crossfire PSU recommendation Post by: Neokolzia on July 23, 2011, 05:37:57 PM fact it is 80+ gives me a little hope for it but 650W would be safe but 700W would be ideal to give lots of headroom, you'd be really pushing it tho, the two cards alone pull 380W ish. And CPU can pull quite a bit, and peripherals and fans would set you over.
And running at a PSU's max isn't ideals either it can be unstable. I've got a q6600, 4gb ram, dvdrw, and 1 500gb HD hooked up onto this PSU as well Roughly. 375w with what you have atm, no overclocking, no mining. 625w with what you have atm + adding another 5850 without overclocking & without mining. 675w with what you have atm + adding another 5850 with just overclocking. 937.5w with what you have atm + adding another 5850 without overclocking. Mining 24/7. 1012.5w with what you have atm + adding another 5850 with overclocking & 24/7 mining. Phaedrus Quick'n'Dirty PSU calculator (http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/1045231-phaedrus-quickndirty-psu-calculator.html) is what I go by for quick n dirty. Try to buy a gold standard PSU with the highest W you can get for your price range - it will be more efficient and save you power. |
