Title: Day trader or Hodler, what's the right choice? (in bear market)
Post by: supremnoob on March 16, 2018, 01:22:30 PM
Two situations/cases in this BEAR MARKET. So:

Are you a day trader?
If yes, how long do prefer (limits) you keep a coin until you sell it?

Are you a hodler?
If yes, how long is the best time to HODL a coin (6 months, 1 year etc)

Many people think that BULL MARKET will came in APRIL / MAY. Are we close to that? With present BTC situation... (and all altcoins)

A day trader can make money always, for a holder it is good time to fill the bags. Choose what makes you feel more comfortable.

day trading is so hard. You see a coin and you say its dip lets buy some but than btc goes under 9k and your coin has a new dip :)  if you hold a coin you know it will recover one day for sure but must be carefull and never buy shitcoins. Coins with real project ,good team and even with a product can make new ath.

I am including those who keep the coins until the time limit is uncertain, the possibility of coins that will save this more than a few months or maybe years, because at times like this my best situation is to keep it as strong and as long as possible, if it is not forced then I will not sell coins that I have this, because by selling it will add to the loss for me and that I do not solve the problem

If you have fiat cash. This is the right time to invest our fund on trading like buying all the potential coin for the cheap price. We may find the coins back to Hugh rate in couple of weeks.
Since the many regulations has been implemented and Mt gox sold huge number of bitcoins complete market devasted so use your fund highly on trading.
If you have cheap altcoins you may hold this coin for long time.

there is a thing between day trader and holder.
here is how I see it:

  • scalper: works with 1m, 5m charts, do a lot of trades per day
  • day trader: works with 15m to 4h charts, never hold his position more than a day
  • swing trader: can hold his position for several weeks, months
  • position trader: holders/investors. can hold a position for a year and more

I'm holding my coins because I have no free money to buy back my coins. Maybe if I have some money I can do day trading hopefully can get ROI faster because of market condition right now. I hope 6 months later I can get my money back of course with some profit from my very little investment. My investment dropped about 70% because I bought them when high price

I am not a day trader. I am a holder. But I am not a blind bitcoin holder. I hold bitcoin in bull market, I hold fiat money in bear market. It is not that difficult. When I see that trend is bullish I am going to buy bitcoin and hold it until the next cycle

Day trading is just a guessing game and most times you will end losing more than if you just held.

I was a trader for a long time, but I get tired because you need to spend too much time (all day and night ) in front of your computer if you want to succeed. Also, to me, trade is like gambling, you can lose everything in a minute or win big profits, but you can become an addict too.
So, for now, I prefer to hold, even when the profits are so much lower to me. But, I don't know, to me trading is just not healthy, if you get what I mean, so, holding, relaxing, and earning step by step is better to me.

I prefer both option, because if you invest in long term you have a lot of free time, so the best option for this is day trading. This way is the most profitable for me.

I am not a day trader. I have been exchanging ether and btc into other coins ie neo, etc, ebtc and ripple. I am looking to hold these and add others in future. By the way a true day trader starts with one commodity eg bitcoin then uses that to trade all day then change them all back into original holding at hopefully a surplus. This started with shares in the 1990's.

Day trading can be very lucrative as it is very risky. Given the current high volatility on the market, I think nowadays it is very difficult to gain proftit by day trading. I am a long term holder (over 1 year).

There is only one pick here and is day trader, a trader that knows his onions can make it big in any market. It is very easy to scrap the market in a bear market though anyone can be a good trader in a bull market only few people will be successful trading a bear market

I prefer to be a holder. I don't want to have see daily charts, its giving me a big problem when I can't the market anymore. It leads me to sell in panic if the market wasn't so good and is on bearish. There's no time on how long should I hold. As long as there is no need for me to sell, I would prefer to hold. Maybe 3 months would be the minimum months.
Many people think that BULL MARKET will came in APRIL / MAY. Are we close to that? With present BTC situation... (and all altcoins)
Calculating the days, we are near to those months. Well the market is up again and green.

If you want to earn something daily, then you have to be a day trader, you have to bear the stress of trading and you have to be a great technical analyst and you should know what is the best entry and exit points, otherwise you will loose as a day trader, hodling is only for patient and long term investors and if you have big bags of good coins you will be making big profits long term.

I stand in both as a day trader as well as a gardener.
It all depends on the condition of the price at least i don't lose and get a profit of at least 10%.

If yes, how long is the best time to HODL a coin (6 months, 1 year etc)

I do them periodically within a span of time (3 months) only.

Many people think that BULL MARKET will came in APRIL / MAY. Are we close to that? With present BTC situation... (and all altcoins)

Yes April is very close but the likelihood bitcoin will be growing in June because at that time people will experience oversold.

the situation  now of altcoins price in the coinmarketcap is in dip I think I go to long term hold to buy altcoins and wait again for the price increase, i work as day trader but now ill stop for while during the altcoin difficult to predict which altcoins potentially goes up the price  in the coinmarket.

precisely, by holding the coin in may have many advantages. In addition to reducing the risk of losses as prices there at this time, it will also make investments in the longer the coin has great value. only this way can address the terrible price a few months.

Simply buy the coins that you think will moon and don't sell it until you are happy for the gain. Hold till it reach your target. I beleived it does nothing to do with either day trade or holder. Meeting your target is the most important in trading. Gain Vs Lose. Hold till no gain or sell for loses.

I dont trust my day trading abilities because i always keep on losing when i do that especially now that crypto market are still very unpredictable and i hate that, so i always stick with a long term HODL. Long term HODL give me less stress and i can have more time with my real life.

This is the right choice we have to do and we don't how to choose those coins in the market, whether their prices will reach to the moon or not we don't know. As far as i know, instead of selling them for the low price better sell them for the high price by holding them for certain period of time.

You don't seem to realize that HODL is only an arm of a long position, so traders are already applying it and much more tactics in their everyday trading.  Worthy of mention is the fact that day trading presents traders with the opportunity of making money regardless of the value of the asset, unlike the hibernation period and which could be indefinite, which HODL often entails.

As par the bull market returning in April /May, you shall be needing a crystal ball to be able to decipher that, but what  really does that help? What's necessary is to stay abreast with developments in the market and taking informed market decisions and the profits would most likely follow.

If you are sure we are on bear market do day trading and wait for the dip at that day buy and ehen the coin bounce 3-5% you need to immediatly take a profit and close your trading platform. Or you can use bot so you can execute it faster. Dont forget to see chart in one hour or 15 minutes so you can analyze the price range for that day.

In the long term a hodler will always win. Theres a reason why the hodl terminology is promoted so much in the crypto world. As per the stats in the crypto history anyone who hodled would have earned far more than someone who would have traded. Also trading isn't for everyone. A very small percentage of traders are able to turn a profit from it.

hthe best thing to do is to be able to exit with stop losses in the beginninhg of bearish market. but ofcourse it is hard to realize that market trend turned to bearish. so if you already lost so much hthe only way is keeping whatever till market recovers.

It is hard to embrace correct role in time. That's why I tend to prefer long term investor role, I just look my coins once in a day and move on. I only buy coins I trust so it doesn't matter to see them crash weekly.

I'll go with trading in bear market that too with short term trading like buying in the dip and selling in the next pump itself. Hodling in the bear market is a bad idea because if market goes further down and down you would end up holding a bag of loss. Just my personal opinion though.

It's coin by coin decision. You can't generalize the whole market.

I'm still trading some coins like CS and PRL.
Another I'm just holding like UTK and ELIX.

If you're confident with your trading skills then I suggest day trading can be your sideline in bear market because I know its a best way to make money during dump market. Personally, I choose to hold on my coins because I don't want to stress myself from falling market, but I keep on buying to increase my possible profit.

For me doing day trader is hardly to manage because you have to be attentive for all your coins that you had. I have also experience of stucks of buying coins thinking of it will increase right away. This is Ive choosen for now of long term hold. However, it is still depends on a persons on which he is capable to manage doing day trader and long term.

Based on yearly graphic, bitcoin always show a promising value , increase from year to year
Of course my choice is hold as long as possible. Sometimes my temptation is like current situation when everything turn red but I'm still believe that bitcoin will reach another record if not this year, next year perhaps !

First, to be able to day trade you need a lot of time and experience (and even then you can lose money).

I would focus on the long-term prospects of the cryptocurrencies, hence being a Hodler  :)

The strategy on the market depends on the general state of the market. I can't guess what exactly I will do tomorrow. Sometimes I buy coins to sell in a few hours, but the price goes down and I have to hold them for a few days. The market is unpredictable. I love crypto for it.

What i would do is to buy the coins when the market is down and would wait for the long term, the best practice is to purchase the coins when the market is correcting and hold for the long time if you are looking for a good profit, there are good coins with low valuation to enter now and enjoy the reap when the market recovers.

Day trading is the best option for bearish market, but a point is that there are only a few coins with ability to make a SHORT position. In other cases without this option it is better to stay away and cash out

What about making sure you have enough usd or usdt to be ready to buy more?

Also for daytraders, do more ppl trade btc, eth that could be traded with usd?  Or are more ppl trading altcoins and also btc and eth with USDT?  The thing with usdt is its not fiat and a cryptocurrency.  Thus until you cash it out to bank account, you keep it in usdt or btc or altcoin and then when you cash out, you convert to btc and then convert to usdt in coinbase/gemini etc?

The only thing I would add to the previous opinions is that even hodler should always have some part of bankroll in fiat/USDT to low the average prices of investments while dippings and to add new promising currencies on the bottoms.

It depends on your situation if you want to hold or being a day trader even everybody telling that hold so the final decision is still in you. As my experience its hard to be a day trader because you need to monitor always the value and one of the panic seller so i must prefer to be hold for a long term trading.

Whatever floats my boat, I go along. I think everybody here is doing pretty much the same. If you're in rypto business full-time, you'll see that there are many different circumstances and each of them require their own plan. Though, crypto market is changing not by hours but by minutes and if you can get in a "wave" you might take huge profits by day trading, whereas hodling gives you some stable profit, not much but stable.

It really depends on our choice, but for me because I am a new member, both options will be considered. I think the hodl in cryptocurrency does have a limit, we can decrease the value in the near future, because the price of bitcoin is very volatile, so if we hold in the long run can get a good profit.

As a Trader and a Hodler, I am expecting everyday to have a bull run, else if not happen, I have a fiat reserve to buy more incase there is a crash or bearish market. I am trading in a good market with good project foundation so that, in case of crash, I have peace of mind that eventually it will recover someday.

I am the holder. I think the holder will be more profitable than the speculation. And my strategy needs to be more computational and I like this job very much. that's my hobby, i like judgment.
My long-term strategy is to hold 3-7 months. I often check the news related to altcoins and I will buy them before they throw the good news about them.

Day trading is good earn platform so I like to participate the day trader. But I don't have enough to predict the right coin. So I am continue to Long term holder. These two are more important in crypto platform but day trading is risky process only expects are survive the day trading platform.

I think it is better to be HOLDER is this bear market because you dont have to care about the price for short-term. Day trader is very hard in a bear market like this because you can only buy low to sell lower most of the time unless you always sell at the top every time.

It depends on what you are good at you a daytrader you could make money even in this difficult market but it's not going to be easy but if you are not a very good trader then you should probably avoid trading, if you're a good holder then this could be the perfect opportunity since you can buy coins for a good price and then hold them for months or even years but there are many people that do not have the patience to do that so you cannot do it then avoid holding.
