Title: Bitcoin recovery error - won't open
Post by: ilan354 on July 25, 2011, 04:50:11 AM
Hello,
So last night I left my MBP running Snow Leopard on for the night for it to download some blocks. Bitcoin was the only thing running. This morning the power plug had fallen out and the computer was off. I turned it on and started bitcoin but it had an error and then when I clicked ok another error. It would not start. Here is the part of the debug.log where it has the errors.

Code:
Bitcoin version 0.3.24-beta
OS version Mac OS X (Darwin 10.7.0 i386)
System default language is 69 en_NZ
Language file locale/en_NZ/LC_MESSAGES/bitcoin.mo (English (New Zealand))
Default data directory /Users/mac/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin
Bound to port 8333
Loading addresses...
dbenv.open strLogDir=/Users/mac/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/database strErrorFile=/Users/mac/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/db.log

EXCEPTION: 22DbRunRecoveryException
DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
bitcoin in AppInit()

EXCEPTION: 22DbRunRecoveryException
DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
bitcoin in CMyApp::OnUnhandledException()

My question is, if I save my current wallet.dat and delete everything to do with bitcoin (application support etc.,) and then download it again, will it work and will my wallet.dat still have my money in it?
Thanks

Yes it will, at least it has for me and many others. While it *might* be possible I have yet to hear of a corrupted wallet.dat file. Copy it to a few places just to be sure before you fool around.

Good luck!

Well I deleted the bitcoin app support folder, bitcoin app folder, installed it again, opened it, had a new address, closed it, copied wallet to app support, opened it, it was mine and it said there was a pending deposit but it had made a new address and when I tried to change addresses it crashed. Whenever I open my addresses and click on one it crashes.

Don't worry it makes new addresses all the time. It keeps the old ones too. Do it again and leave it alone this time.

Bitcoin *demands* that one learns patience.  8^)

You are obsessing on nothing. Get the bitoins into the wallet *before* you go picking any more buttons as you seem to be crashing it.

You will have plenty of time later to understand how multiple input addresses work.

Start over and leave it alone as it rebuilds the block chain.
