Title: What's the difference between an asic and someone with a mining farm of gpus?
Post by: Digital Drug Lord on March 18, 2018, 01:15:47 PM
Everyone says Asics ruin everything but an asic cost as much as a mining rig.

The asic can only mine 1 algo while the gpu farm can mine many

Plus you have nice hash which is worse then an asic

ASICs are not on the same scale as GPUs. You could probably replace a 100 AMD Vega GPU farm with 30 Baikal cryptonite ASICs, they would occupy similar physical space, consume similar power, but have a hash rate 3000 times the 100 GPUs.

And Nicehash is not single owner operation, it’s a marketplace where many buyers and sellers deal.

It was not until recently. Now when Bitman and Baykal made a statement about what they produce asics for the algorithm cryptonight this can be a problem for all owners of the GPU. A huge number of coins will raise the complexity of the network and we will have to wait for the appearance of forks protected from asics or the emergence of new coins.

Asic will kill the amd cryptonight coins for sure

And It happens now.

Plus you have nice hash which is worse then an asic

Nicehash limited to rent time periods, and it's no big deal for miners with a physical device. Like mentioned above, Nicehash is an Hashrate marketplace only. Renter will rent the Hashrate for a short period, it because they will soon to know profit or loss they get.
