Bitcointalk Unofficial List of Plagiarists
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://i.imgur.com/dXG605i.png

Have been seeing a lot of people(probably people wanting to get merits in an unfair manner) posting articles lately without even giving credits to the original source. Will continue to update this thread if I have time.

According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • to use (another's production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

Why bother opening another thread when a similar thread exists and is being actively handled by the mods ? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.0 Should you wish to report copy-paste posters,I suggest you to start reporting there instead of segregating the threads which makes it difficult for the mods as well.

Yeah if the list was larger than 1 name, maybe 15-20 then opening a new thread is kind of justified. But for just one person reporting directly to mods is more useful than posting in any of the threads.

This thread can continue and can add more than 1 report.

The OP just put an effort creating his own thread maybe we can continue and report other plagiarist here.

Just saw similar threads like this.

Yikes. Did a quick search on a similar topic and I didn't catch that thread. Though it looks like it isn't updated as much, and the list is pretty much just all over the topic replies, so I'm definitely making this a well-compiled topic. So I'm still going to continue this thread. Just have to fix some stuff soon, including proof backups etc.

Also, my goal is not only for mods to delete the posts, but probably also a source of members for campaign managers to add to their blacklist.

And yea. List is currently only 1 user AS OF NOW. But will surely find more in the future.

Plagiarism is a bannable offense by the rules, so plagiarists will probably get banned and not only their posts deleted if their posts were plain copy/paste.

33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]
....
33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

Sure it's definitely listed as "not allowed", but are you sure it's a bannable offense and not just the thread being deleted? I'm really not sure.

I can't find where I saw it, but I believe that it even leads to a perma ban. Maybe a moderator can confirm this.

What will happen to reported instances on this thread. Can you support them all? Are you going to report them all? Or you will be the one to investigate?, you should provide solutions to those proven guilty of plagiarism. Or else if this thread is just intended to posting copy and paste post that has actually similar threads with a huge support. Then probably will contribute there

Of course I'm going to report them. And as you see with the thread, I provided links of the original source whereas they most likely copied from without giving credits to the source.

Though I will delete this thread if someone convinces me that it's pointless to continue.

Feel free to correct me if i posted in the wrong thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1338954

Bitcoin is here to stay, 100%. Are you too late? Heck NO! Bitcoin will be the new Bank.

Bitcoin will hit $80.000 - $100.000 by the end of 2018. Let me tell you why.

In Q3- 2018 Bitcoin will implement the Lightning Network that will bring, among other changes, instantaneous and concurrent checks with transactions.

The problem is that for the past year, the average number of Bitcoin transactions per second has hovered around a mean of 3. This compares to Visa’s network, which can handle closer to 3,600 transactions per second.

And that’s not all. As the number of Bitcoin users increases, the transaction delays get even longer and the fees even higher.

The simple reason for these low transaction volumes is that Bitcoin’s block size is capped at 1MB. The Bitcoin community is torn about increasing the cap of the block, and there are arguments to both sides.

When Lightning becomes mainstream and is adopted by exchanges, Q3 2018, the Bitcoin price will skyrocket.

The technology behind the Lightning Network will improve upon the process by which Bitcoin transactions are validated. Currently, the process makes use of mining rigs, requiring that computers solve complicated math problems before the transactions can be recorded on the blockchain ledger. Because of the computing power required, a single transaction can take up to an hour to confirm.

With Lightning, however, this process would be significantly sped up. The Lightning Network would require that participants agree to transact on a separate, offline channel, and then the blockchain would update to reflect the external transaction.

If we can't ascertain rightly whether it is a bannable or deleting of the post. Plagiarism is generally considered as a criminal offense and one would be charged as that.

Even in project or thesis writing, referencing of a source, an author and quoting a lifted word or phrase is important. Thus, a stricter measure rather than mere deleting of a post should be appropriate.

The last time I checked, I was not seeing numbers. Tho now it seems that you've already having a good progress. I will be bookmarking this thread for the future purpose as I myself was a victim of plagiarism and will be reporting some members if I found some.

Tho unlike your way of finding a copy and paste posts from external sources, I will more on internal cleansing. As I would like to also suggest to you to find copy and paste posts from this forum alone as this is also one of the main issues and probably you could find more of it.

i've seen few members doing plagiarism and i reported their post straight to the moderator.
the next day, their post is gone.
so i think making a list like in the op is unnecessary.

and about this, until this forum implements a specific rule for this kind of action, deleting their post is the best we can get.

I checked the topic, and the poster was off topic. Reported the reply instead. Highly likely that the reply will be deleted soon so I decided to not add it to the list. Thanks though!

Unfortunately not all the plagiarizer's posts are getting deleted, so I decided to make this list. May change it in the future though, to make it a list of members that have plagiarized instead; just so if ever their posts are getting deleted but their accounts aren't getting banned. Will think about it

Thanks for the contribution! Yeah, unfortunately a good number of plagiarists aren't getting banned or atleast their post being deleted. What's funny is that he missed a letter when he/she copy-pasted your reply. LOL

Thanks for the merit by the way, appreciate it.

Thanks for the contribution! Yeah, unfortunately a good number of plagiarists aren't getting banned or atleast their post being deleted. What's funny is that he missed a letter when he/she copy-pasted your reply. LOL

Thanks for the merit by the way, appreciate it.

You're welcome for merit, you certainly deserve it for your work-as I see you hunt down few more plagiarists/copy-pasters which should help the moderators to do their job and award each of reported user with perma ban.

I have one more plagiarists for your list, even though he/she is just newbie does not mean it can not read the rules of the forum.

Hey, thanks again. and yea, being a newbie shouldn't be an excuse.

Looks like I'd have to think of a way to format the main post in some other way if ever the list goes too long.

I have one more "good poster" for your list,he is just copy/paste from some USA news sites without citing sources. It's strange that nobody noticed it since he is registered two weeks ago.

I did not check what is the status of reported users on your list,is someone appropriately sanctioned so far?

Ayy. Thanks again for the contribution.

I just checked the list just now. Out of 16 users and 16 posts from the list, only 2/16 users have been banned(cryptocurency08 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1877309) and kelum86 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1962128)) and only 6/16 topics/replies have been deleted quite unfortunately. I'm really unsure how the mods/admins decide whether to just delete the post or ban the user completely.

This user is just pick some post on page he is on and then c/p-without any intention of trying to cover up what he is doing.

I see one more user is banned for now,but it would be good that banned account are marked as such.I do not know how admin/mods decide to ban users or just delete post, but I think every attempt of plagiarism should end with ban. Also sometimes it takes some time to mods/admin reacts,I guess there is many reports that need to be resolved.

I didn't add the user you linked as he is already banned at this time. That's though.

I don't know either. Unfortunately we don't have an official list of rules, for some reason. For such a big forum I think we need one.
