Title: Is changing the BTC hash possible?
Post by: thesavoyard on March 18, 2018, 07:36:01 PM
If the majority of the nodes decided to change the BTC hash to a different, ASIC resistant POW algo, or a POS algo, the mining pools couldn't stop them right?

Essentially, it would be a contentious fork, but if the majority of exchanges and node operators went with the new algo, ASIC mined BTC would be a shitcoin alt. The only thing that prevents BTC from scaling is the sabotage by groups like Antimer/Bitmain. This shit company could be killed off from a move like this.

So why don't we start a movement to switch algos? Or a modified version of SHA-256 that requires large amounts of memory to process like Equihash?

POS is more in line with Satoshi's vision, should be worth considering.

this is apparently a difficult question for everyone, it's easier to stand still and do nothing, apparently this is now politics (

first of all there is no ASIC resistance algo unless you plan on changing your algo every couple of months to prevent that from happening. as long as it is proof of work and people can pool their works together and find blocks by putting some computing power, there will be some company that creates a "device" that can do the hashing better and that will be called ASIC.

changing to PoS is never going to happen because the distribution method of PoS is seriously flawed as it is. it is simply the flawed way of making rich richer. and nobody will ever agree to it.
